Amazing skiing Ryan. I'm going to have to hire you to guide me at Tucks. In 40+ years of skiing, I've not done it... yet... :) Keep up the great content.
It’s mega. Tucks still never loses that intimating vibe when you’re in there for the first time of the season! Damnation is a great line and if some day you change your mind, it’ll be there!
@@extreme_ryan_delena That’s what’s great, the mountains are always there. All about skill, that’s it. I’ll do anything, so long as I know I’m able. I snowboard and I’m pretty good, but I’d want to get some more experience in the backcountry first.
Wait... Where's the chair-lift? The groomers? Your cajones must be the size of Mt Washington! I was gasping and I'm only WATCHING the video. Amazing stuff.
@@Drwexter Not dumb at all. Many lines have fixed anchors that you can just thread your rope through. You pull your rope and the fixed gear stays up there. In this instance, I left personal gear behind because this line is rarely skied and had no fixed anchor. It’s always a bummer to leave stuff, but you gotta get down somehow! In this instance I figured leaving a fixed anchor would benefit the community.
@extreme_ryan_delena WOW dude that's so informative. Truly have ALWAYS wondered this when watching people repel ice and rock walls after spending all day to climb up there. The dedication is wild
@ Appreciate it. Yeah you you can get to some ice you can leave what’s called a V-Thread where you can thread your rope through a “V” you make in the ice by drilling two ice screw holes diagonally towards eachother. That’s what we did for Shoestring Gully.
@@extreme_ryan_delena it's my dream to be able to ride the line you do. I'm from Jersey and am trying to make my way into the ski industry in NE and your lines make me drool. Gotta get some touring experience and some split board gear first.
We didn’t abseil off it. Brett just used it to belay me on while I went to the edge to scope out a cornice. I was walking on flat ground so the idea was if a cornice broke, it would give me enough security to self arrest, but ultimately would only need to hold less than body weight. After that, I unroped and we skied into that clean entrance I scoped. That being said, if you did need to rappel, this thing probably weighs one ton and is built like a driveway stone wall, so you could probably get away with it.
Oftentimes you can’t see them until you’re right there on those meandering lines. Plus in this range we most often climb the lines we ski, so it’s common to have up/down traffic.
I have the 106 black edition and I’m a big fan. They’re a little stiff, which can take some getting used to, but I’ve yet to find a line I couldn’t ski in em!
I don’t know if you could tell in the video but I was right at the ends of my rope so it was a 30m rappel. The landing was also on a spine above another small ice bulge and the gully curves. Yes it could be dropped, but if I fell I could’ve died, so too much risk for me. Maybe someone else.
What a beautiful day for you! I enjoyed that, and I wasn't even skiing!
Omg !!! That was a beautiful video!! And great music
Nice movie dude. The best East Coast ski footage I’ve seen.
Thank you !

So epic. The White Mountains are truly incredible. Idk if I’ll ever do Damnation Gully but I’ve done Tuckerman and it’s an insane place.

Great skiing -- and production that does it justice. Really stellar I enjoyed it.
Thank you

Footage looking crisp. DAMN(nation).

Dang! Best Ive seen from the Whites...even better Cody Townsends 50 vid. Dope.
Appreciate that man! Haha we did get both classics in a day now that I think about it 🤔
@@extreme_ryan_delena haha yup! Conditions looked friggin amazing...
@@andrewwallus847 we nailed it so hard haha
Nice! never skied there
@@lambbrookfarm4528 It’s an incredible place to ski. Check it out sometime!
@extreme_ryan_delena thought about it in my younger days, there is no shortage of good runs closer to me...
This might be a dumb question, but I have always wondered how you recover your gear after repelling and then skiing the rest of the line.

@ No way to do it other than to do it. Plan a trip when you get the chance and come get your feet on the ground. The skillset will come with time!
Crazy
Goddamn mang. That is full on.
It was an epic day !
How or are rock nuts cleaned on the down climb?
We left those pieces fixed so the rap anchor could be utilized by others. Multiple other parties skied it that season so it was a worthy investment!
The lower part of the mountain (trail) had deep gullies or holes in the snow, very sketchy!
is it de rigeur to abseil off a cairn of rocks for you guys ?

Nice video, but what is with skiing down right above people hiking up? I see so many videos of people doing this in the area.

It’s never really been an issue. I think it looks worst in the videos. I generally slow down a bit but it’s never been an issue for me. It’s all good.

In those conditions, rope not necessary. Those landings were wider and cleaner than the entry you had already skied.
