Devil's Kitchen - Our Adventure In Canyonlands National Park
With a big rain storm hitting Indian Creek, climbing was out of the question for a few days. Jess, Nathan and I decided to go on a hiking adventure deep into the Needles District of Canyonlands. While I've never been to this park before, I quickly fell in love with this wild, remote landscape deep in the Utah desert.

Our Epic Halloween In Indian Creek - Splitter Cracks and Desert Parties

For our second stop on the road trip, we met our friends in Indian Creek to climb excellent sandstone cracks and go to a desert halloween party. After some stellar pancakes made by Jess, we followed Nathan on some wild off-roading to Pistol Whipped Wall, where we climbed the classic 5.11, Spaghetti Western, as well as Coyne Crack Simulator 5.11a and others. Later I dawned my very reflective hal...

The Aemmer Couloir - An Unlikely Score On A Canadian Rockies Classic

After skiing the Spearhead Traverse in fantastic conditions, Brennan and I drove 8 hours on the famous 'powder highway' to Banff National Park, where we posted up for a window on The Aemmer. Splitting a gash down the left side of the otherwise impenetrable north face of Mount Temple, The Aemmer is easily one of the most aesthetic lines in the Canadian Rockies, and sporting a steep and sustained...
Spearhead Traverse - Skiing A Coast Range Classic In Reverse

The Spearhead Traverse is a classic ski traverse in the Coast Range of British Columbia. It crosses 10 glaciers, skiing over 6k vertical feet, connecting Blackcomb to Whistler, well... usually. With only a late season window to work with, and Blackcomb closed early this year, we opted to do the traverse in Reverse. Starting at Whistler, ending at Blackcomb. Follow along to see this 3 day advent...
Silver Couloir - Party Skiing A Colorado Classic

Silver Couloir is a 3000 foot continuous ski descent off the iconic Buffalo Mountain, and one of the 50 Classic Ski Descents. When I arrived I saw plenty snow still plastered the mountain tops. Lacking a ski partner, my friend Ian connecte...

Skiing Tuckerman Ravine In The Rain? - Wild Weather and Amazing Skiing

Spring Shenanigans - Skiing Oakes Gulf and Mount Franklin.

With only two lines left in the entire Southern Presi, and the clock ticking on our snow depth, I really wanted to make sure I at least attempted Right Buttress and Bifocal Gully before the season ended. To our luck, both lines were still in. However, they wouldn't come without some spring shenanigans. In this episode, we negotiate adventurous creek crossings, free solo a moss gully, grass ski,...
Mount Franklin Cirque - Skiing New Hampshire's Forgotten Ravine

Just beyond Oakes Gulf lies Mount Franklin Cirque, a zone that sees very few visits each year. Rumors of long walks and complex terrain keep most people away, but this zone holds some fantastic skiing. The day after the solar eclipse, I awoke at 4:00am feeling charged up and full of energy, for a solo tour in the White Mountains. With temps just above freezing and wind at summit elevations, I o...

@@extreme_ryan_delena man I'm jealous. Got cannon on that big march powday last year and they have excellent terrain.
I've poached that line a few times...

@extreme_ryan_delena do they still rope it off?
@@mybadvideos They will always have it roped off. its a fun MELLOW warm up stash 100%
The fella who called down saying loser did not have the Christmas stoke😂
@@PrestonJSix0Three I was so confused 😂
The more open Oz runs like Eureka and Emerald City look so tame on camera but then I get there in person and it always looks so much scarier. I never know how much trust I should put into the trail grading system because it always seems like there’s so much overlap for what can be considered a single or double black. I think I’d probably feel more comfortable just going for it if I had someone with me, but I pretty much always ride alone so I get anxious about going into woods or unpatrolled sections especially if I can’t see what the trail actually looks like further down. Too many times have I seen a glade and thought“that’s not too steep” and then halfway through there’s an unavoidable cliff drop into a 40° pitch.
hell yeah dude!
Hey man. Love the ski vids of obscure areas in the Northeast as they inspire me to seek out not so common runs. In fact, I wanted to create a channel that scoured Caltopo, (as I do now but prob won't make the vids) for potential backcountry skiing and do a recon mission. If skiable, great, it's a vid! If not, skip it or report back. It would be cool to see the planning of the skin in, route based on slope angles and accessibility, etc. Of course this may also piss people off for exposing their secret stashes... Anyway, just an idea. Not sure if you use Caltopo but it is a great tool and would make decent vids.
I think a lot of people are interested in ski mountaineering instructional in terms of different gear that you use for repelling or different knots and things of that sort Even glacier rescue stuff like 3-1 systems
And of course, that pertains to scheme mountaineering, but you can still do those videos in the summer and the people getting into rock climbing would be interested in that too
@@stephenclark15 Appreciate the ideas! Definitely some good stuff I could incorporate here!
@ some of that stuff could even be good ideas for “Shorts”
@@stephenclark15 I always forget about those!
No worries, you've been busy kicking ass!
Good to see you back, good luck reconstructing the channel. Fan of your ski content here in the white mountains. Climbing videos are great with a drone, but someone else obviously would need to operate. 🤙🏼 Cheers man
This might be a dumb question, but I have always wondered how you recover your gear after repelling and then skiing the rest of the line.
@@Drwexter Not dumb at all. Many lines have fixed anchors that you can just thread your rope through. You pull your rope and the fixed gear stays up there. In this instance, I left personal gear behind because this line is rarely skied and had no fixed anchor. It’s always a bummer to leave stuff, but you gotta get down somehow! In this instance I figured leaving a fixed anchor would benefit the community.
@extreme_ryan_delena WOW dude that's so informative. Truly have ALWAYS wondered this when watching people repel ice and rock walls after spending all day to climb up there. The dedication is wild
@ Appreciate it. Yeah you you can get to some ice you can leave what’s called a V-Thread where you can thread your rope through a “V” you make in the ice by drilling two ice screw holes diagonally towards eachother. That’s what we did for Shoestring Gully.
@@extreme_ryan_delena it's my dream to be able to ride the line you do. I'm from Jersey and am trying to make my way into the ski industry in NE and your lines make me drool. Gotta get some touring experience and some split board gear first.
@ No way to do it other than to do it. Plan a trip when you get the chance and come get your feet on the ground. The skillset will come with time!
Kind of a weird question maybe, but how many liters is your pack that you used in this video? Looking for a bigger pack and yours looks about the size i want
side note, I was at Stowe that day. I have never had such an emotional response to just experiencing something. Truly awesome day with some absolutely KILLER spring conditions
@@Drwexter glad you got to experience it too. The pack is a north face 80 liter.
@@extreme_ryan_delena thanks for the reply dude!! Have an AMAZING and safe 2024/2025 season man!!
@ Thank you so much! You as well
Hey man do you have any information on this location? Another I’d recommend is Thunderbolt ski trail on Mount Greylock in Mass. It’s a very old, classic backcountry ski trail from the summit.
@@matthewgallant3622 this one is the Pierce Trail on Nobscott Hill in Sudbury Massachusetts. It’s actually a pretty steep hill with some cool oak glades on it too. I’ve gotten slough to run before on some glades! Thunder Bolt is on my list too. Haven’t made my way over there yet.
@@extreme_ryan_delena That’s super cool I live in Ct so I’m always looking out for gems in southern New England for when I can’t travel up north
@@matthewgallant3622 Oh nice! Yeah CT is a drive huh! Definitely some gems in Mass just harder to get the conditions
@@extreme_ryan_delena Correct! Berkshires have some great peaks for sure Im out hiking them all the time. The Whites are about a 4 hour drive for me, I’m up there plenty but it’s usually an overnighter.
Great skiing, you make those quick turns on hardpack look easy😤
@@gregtownsend7173 thank you !
So awesome man! The great thing about having skis in the Presidentials is you can make it back to Pinkham way faster than hiking so you can go all the way to Franklin if you want.
@@matthewgallant3622 hell yeah. That’s the best part of the day. When you wanna go home just click in and head down!
@@extreme_ryan_delena I’m interested to know your thoughts on the Granite Backcountry Alliance in NH? My friend and I snowboarded the glades on South Baldface they cut and it was excellent. Lots of flat spots making it more ski friendly but very well groomed nonetheless.
@@matthewgallant3622 I think they’re a great organization doing great stuff. The terrain out there is lovely! It’s tough because a lot of them are so low elevation that they need a really big storm to set them up.
What an incredible trip! This is making my snowboarding bucket list with Mauna Kea and the Alps. You’re making me wish I spent more time in Boy Scouts doing more trips like this. I value everything I learned there but wish I learned everything
@@matthewgallant3622 never too late to learn. The internet is a bountiful resource. Check out Mark Smiley’s mountain sense courses. Those were huge for me
@@extreme_ryan_delena Thanks man I’ll check him out
@@matthewgallant3622 yeah specifically the ski mountaineering course and the rappelling course were huge for me
@@extreme_ryan_delena That’s cool because I know virtually nothing about rock climbing or rappelling. I was never great at it as a kid.
I’ve been a Tuckerman snowboarding regular for 15 years, just recently did the South Baldface glades and you’re 100%, correct. Tons of powder totally untouched below the tree line.
That's a taunting lenticular cloud over the summit of Aconcagua

Amazing! Thanks for taking us on your awesome adventures! So cool!
Did BC have a pretty typical snowpack this year? In Montana is was a lot lower than normal until the end
Same thing. We almost canceled due to how low the snow was but they had a couple really good late season storms! I think a few came in as rain down low, hence the dirt walking, despite skiing pow up high
Great ski, love the Smurf gloves
Thank you haha. Gotta keep the eyeballs safe
That was the best video thus far. Thanks for sharing.
Omg thank you! I’m really glad you liked it.
So epic. The White Mountains are truly incredible. Idk if I’ll ever do Damnation Gully but I’ve done Tuckerman and it’s an insane place.
It’s mega. Tucks still never loses that intimating vibe when you’re in there for the first time of the season! Damnation is a great line and if some day you change your mind, it’ll be there!
@@extreme_ryan_delena That’s what’s great, the mountains are always there. All about skill, that’s it. I’ll do anything, so long as I know I’m able. I snowboard and I’m pretty good, but I’d want to get some more experience in the backcountry first.
Excuse my stupid question (I ski out of PA) but is there any sort of map for this stuff? Or at least some sort of navigation to use to find these trails?
Check out Fatmap, search Mount Mansfield and turn on freeride skiing/ backcountry skiing. They should show up in blue.
Awesome world; empty.
Don't forget; mountains are walls. And can eventually, get in your way. People who climb Mount Everest are looking for more than a trophy. They die up there looking for a world they don't fit into vibrationally.
Seems like an endless place or leads to an endless place.
I say other worlds are on Earth beyond the circles and walls and mountains from the ground up. And way up. That's why we have star gates to THE GREAT UNKNOWN.
Baffin Island looks like another world secluded.
I have a birth mark on my finger that looks like Baffin Island map.
You’re doing some cool stuff dude, keep it up. Your subs should be going wayyyy up!

It was actually pretty nice corn. Only firm in the shade.
I thought this was tuck's for a moment there
He found 2 partners for Rainier btw!
My mindset while climbing at lesser places like rock rimmon. Still a great place to climb even if its "dirty" and "ghetto"
There was some neat rock over there. I tried to solo it in sneakers which was an interesting choice.
You just kind of learn this automatically when you grow up skiing in ohio lol
Haha
I have the same philosophy which came from travel to places like Oklahoma and Kansas which are not often thought of as scenic states. Thanks for sharing!
