I get that for sure! The menu diving is definitely something you have to get used to, I still don't like it, but the amount of things it can do in such a portable box have made it worth it for me personally. Definitely a trade off though
Great video about the Roland P6. I've been using mine mostly as an additional trigger for samplers and effects, as well as for performance on the granular synth. I believe the return on investment isn't very high since the sampling capabilities are fully covered by my SP404. With that in mind, and considering the price of the Roland S1 synthesizer, it offers many more options and sound textures for my setup. I think I'm going to make the switch.
Cheers my friend! I've heard great things about the S1, and also the S1 is linked with the P-6 granular engine so you can control it's settings on there apparently. Do you find it's sampling uses redundant with the 404? For me, the 404 resampling is great, but I love the sample rates and lofi button on the P-6 + it's quick chop. I've been sampling into the P-6, doing sound design then moving into the SP. Bit of a clunky workflow but the sound is worth it haha
Got one, quite love it. My main grip I have with it apart from the obvious quirkyness is that it seems to forget some of the last patterns made once I reboot (I basically have to duplicate them to be sure to keep a copy. Any thought?
Every sampler has it's pros and cons, I like the portability, granular engine and SP-like effects. But it definitely comes down to personal preference so I totally get it. Those Liven Lofis look dope!
Cheers! I'll be editing out the intro music, but that track is the first in this beat set if you ever want to find it again: th-cam.com/video/kHz1Ji4rtao/w-d-xo.html
It'd be nice if Roland adds the ability to adjust chop start/end points in the future. That's the only thing preventing me from structuring my beats on it. For now I mainly use it to sample into, drop sample rates and resample with effects to add texture. I then sample into my 404MK2, my Maschine Plus or MPC to make my beats. I'm satisfied with using the P6 in this capacity until Roland finally treats us right.
For real, we talked about the limitations of it's chop function a bit on the stream. I love how quick it is to chop on here, but the inability to move the slice points does hurt it a bit
@sunwarper that's the main deal breaker for me. You can chop and adjust sample points on every other sampler (the Sonicware Lofi 12 XT and Ableton Move quickly come to mind.) One would think Roland would make that feature a given. It's mind baffling to me.
I was having a hard time completing songs on my daw so I bought this thing after seeing a few videos on youtube and just got it a few days ago and I already finished a 2 track EP
Regarding the updates, the 1.02 update was quite substantial and the other compacts doesn't have many features that needs to be updated, the p-6 have tons of features, so I'm staying hopeful
Dude yes! I'm so glad you mentioned the 1.02, I totally forgot they already did an update to it. Definitely more reason to be hopeful. They've been so great at updating the SP, let's hope they show the P-6 some love as well
Starts at 1:05 // I kept a bit of the intro P-6 beat to give an example of what this little sampler can do. Can I please ask, does this have sidechain ducking which would make it useful for someone who needs sidechain ducking? Or is it only featured to be used inside this device?
just the the SP from Roland it unfortunately does not. I would have loved to add sidechain to this beat. Hopefully they add it to the SP & P-6 at some point!
Pitching up samples and adjusting BPM is giving me such a hard time. I’m BEGGING for a time stretch update
great video! thanks for going into so much detail. I think I'll hold off on this because I HATE menu diving. Messes up my flow!

I haven't heard of that, just so I'm on the same page, are you saving the patterns before shutting?
Direct competition is Liven Loft-12. Bigger is better in this example.

I love the FX and Sample Rate features. It’s a great sampler for the price.
Both incredible features, I'm still shocked how much they've crammed into that tiny box given it's price!
That was some lovely guitar.

Nice!!! There's something special about getting away from the screen and using dedicated gear
really wanna listen to that ep

@@sunwarper Definitely seems promising, the 1.02 came pretty quick after launch also.
