The Roland S1 can act as a midi controller to the P-6 granular engine with all the cc controls already mapped to the S1’s knobs… works brilliantly and stops a LOT of menu diving…
This is a great insight thanks! As someone who owns neither but was on the fence about some of the p6 UI elements, I never would have put 2+2 together. I'm gonna have to pore over the various midi implementation docs now.
@@Beatsgoboom most of the granular function parameters are in a sub-menu thats only accesible via the Voice menu on the granular pad OR via midi cc. the P-6 is setup by default to recognize all of the knobs and buttons on the roland S-1 as midi controls for the granular pad. they are auto mapped to the p6 and you can connect the midi between the two with a single 3.5mm trs patch cable
I've been loving mine - also I HIGHLY recommend for anyone looking into these to get some "Tall Trim Toppers" for the knobs, it really improves the feel of the knobs.
The way i assign samples to the granular engine....1)tap the granular button....2) press the shift button+ G/voice button....SNPL on the little screen refers to Sample....3) hit the C#/Enter....4) The Tempo/value knob to select what sample you the Granular engine to trigger.....5).....The C/Exit button.....
The way the probability settings seem to work seems very elektron inspired, in a good way. I think this thing eclipses the model:samples in just about every way for less money, the granular and effects alone make it a lot more powerful. The one benefit I think the model:samples had over this is that it’s less menu divey and the display can show a lot more info than the calculator style screen.
I’m brand new to using a sampler and this little thing is a lot of fun! I agree, the manual is very dense, and the display screen is not the best, a video highlighting the many key combinations would be much appreciated ❤
Bro you always makes the best video's! Love to watch them every time and they are so related and your presentation is top notch so big thumbs up and hope to see more p6 video's in the future!
Yep, the case is a must with those little devices ❤️ I've been using the s1 a lot lately, but i'm really gassing about the p6! To me it seems you could do all the op1 things we used to see back in 2020, except for the long recording thing. Roland seems to have done a really nice job with this one
how do you deal with individual "tracks"/songs on the P-6? do you export all samples, bank-by-bank via usb to the pc by powering the unit on for every single bank one-by-one while holding down the specific bank button then copy/paste the samples to your pc? then backup the patterns as well & start fresh for every song? thats the only thing that bothers me, is that patterns are tied to the samples. it wouldnt be such a huge deal if it were easier to backup all samples/banks at once
After some initial scepticism I did order one but didn't allocate much time playing with it yet. I liked the first volca sample alot but hated bringing samples into it. This seems like a worthy successor. I didn't even register that it has an usb audio interface. I like how small and lightweight it is.
@TheNimasan vor 0 Sekunden granular push pattern, granular and then the pad you wish.despite being a modular junkie with lots go granular modules like arbor or morphagene, I love the granular engine in p6. I love this lil thing !!!
I think they are both small and affordable, they could compliment each other nicely. So no need to get competitive. The Move is obviously more like a set of 4 aria, but you could create a nice vibe on the P-6 and sample into a pad on Move. I think you are trying to compare a sandwich to a main course.
@@watercolourmark just trying to figure out next purchase. Been a polyend tracker user but looking to switch it up since the polyend tracker literally dies on me last friday. Thaks for the insight..
Love mine. Wish I could add storage (as card, etc)… For some reason I cannot get midi to work. It is my only device that I cannot do it and I read the manual. Very weird.
you'll want to make sure you're receiving MIDI on the proper channel on the P-6, and double check that whatever you are sending MIDI from is sending it on the same channel as well
Tempted to get one but I own a Volca Sample 2, Circuit Rhythm and a MC 101. It s little and cool machine though. Love the atmosphere of your patterns man, keep it up
i only got this for the granular synth tho but my sp 404 mk2 kills this thing in most ways so no need to get it if you already have a sampler really..... i feel like the 3 second stereo recording time per pad is bit limited so you forced to make everything lofi.
I like mine better than my volca sample 2. The physical buttons, ability to sample in without the app, and rechargeable battery puts it over the phone top. I purchased the Korg just a few months back and now wish I waited.
Love mine. Two things I wish they would implement "somehow" is tweakable start and end for each slice OR ability to record/ add more slices to already existing slices in one pad. But still. Super fun as is.
there's 8 banks of 6 sample slots with a max of about 6 seconds per sample slot + 8 granular spots. So it can hold 48 6 second samples (mono) (or 3ish seconds each stereo) + 8 granular slots you can increase sample time per slot by decreasing the sample rate
Please post a deep dive into the menus. The manual is a joke showing characters for the display that it could never produce. Piss poor of Roland to not check it was actually accurate.

Interesting
Say more re: less menu diving?

Thanks for making this video! Great cinematic shots! 🙌
The P-6 is one of the best little machines to be released in a long time, so good that i have 2 of them now :)
I was wondering which device would be cool to pair with...
...yes i'll go the way you've gone
@@shaabaaz3083 I'd get an iPad or an iPad mini if you don't already have an iPhone or something. there a lot of good apps/ auv3 plugins
Do you use them differently or pack different sorts of samples in each? Or is one more of a travel/back up guy? Just curious
I love the P-6, but wish the pads were velocity-sensitive. So I hooked mine up to my SP404mkii :) heavenly.

I can recommend them too. A great addition. Makes it much more comfortable...

all you have to do is hold down PATTERN + Granular pad + whatever sample you want to load. very easy

I’ve replaced like 5 stock samples but I like the stock samples

I sold my 404mk2 cos of all the menu diving and crazy button combinations i can never remember. This looks l8ke same issues for me.😮
Yeah still Roland workflow but some stuff is easier I think.

This thing is a very cool and versatile addition to my 404. ❤✌️
Might be getting one for Christmas 🎅

Same here with the volca. The trade off is that the P-6 doesn’t have the crappy speaker.

Two LFO's for controlling sample parameters, effects, etc. More sample memory, a screen and it would be perfect
Love the video and the jam !!
Got mine a few days ago to compliment my S1 and T8

Hey, i am on budget and thinking about getting ipad 10th gen for music production? Will it be okayy
I'd recommend saving up for potentially a newer ipad mini (6th or 7th gen) or an M chip iPad
can i make voices layers live with this device? thanks.
I had bought the Roland T8 do you think this makes that unnecessary?

Appreciate it! I'm really happy with how the visuals turned out.
All those sounds we hear the video, are build in into the P-6 from factory?!
No I put my own samples on it. And you can too!
Isn't a little tablet like the Samsung Tab A9 and the Koala sampler app cheaper, more powerfull and easier to use ?
If everything was about optimizing for those things constantly we’d have a very boring world. There’s more than 1 way.

Why does your P6 look orange? Mine is bright yellow.

how about granular and probability settings on the lofi 12 XT

what do you think of the video alex?
That 7-segment display will be a blessing in a couple years. OLED displays come with headaches. The 7-segment will last forever.
