The Roland S1 can act as a midi controller to the P-6 granular engine with all the cc controls already mapped to the S1’s knobs… works brilliantly and stops a LOT of menu diving…
This is a great insight thanks! As someone who owns neither but was on the fence about some of the p6 UI elements, I never would have put 2+2 together. I'm gonna have to pore over the various midi implementation docs now.
@@Beatsgoboom most of the granular function parameters are in a sub-menu thats only accesible via the Voice menu on the granular pad OR via midi cc. the P-6 is setup by default to recognize all of the knobs and buttons on the roland S-1 as midi controls for the granular pad. they are auto mapped to the p6 and you can connect the midi between the two with a single 3.5mm trs patch cable

I love hearing all the different things people are doing on the p6. I just got one and it's my first sampler. I haven't even started messing around with the granular function but I like how you used it here a lot. I would have loved to hear the original, longer samples you shortened and seen he whole process. All the button combinations and the strange hieroglyphics on the tiny screen are a little confusing but I feel like once I know my way around it'll just be a minor inconvenience. Right now I'm still trying to figure out what it is and isn't capable of doing. For instance, can it stretch a sample? Believe me when I say I've read the manual. My problem could be comprehension.
If Korg is smart they’ll beat Roland to the punch with an M1/Triton/Wavestation style Volca, because I feel like Roland’s next Compact is gonna be a D50 or something considering they made a Boutique version of it already, just like the SH-01. 1-2 more of the killer Aira Compacts and Roland might steal all the Volca thunder. Now I wonder if Yamaha has plans 🤔
I’m brand new to using a sampler and this little thing is a lot of fun! I agree, the manual is very dense, and the display screen is not the best, a video highlighting the many key combinations would be much appreciated ❤
I've been loving mine - also I HIGHLY recommend for anyone looking into these to get some "Tall Trim Toppers" for the knobs, it really improves the feel of the knobs.
Nice video. I'm a big fan of portable gear but samplers, in particular, seem to be the best way to make a full track on a pocket sized "thingy". I like what you came up with here. Question: Don't you get latency from the wireless cans?
@HotStrange the biggest single point is the Airas have 16 step visual sequence editing. So if you like editing patterns that way, you might the Airas. P6 effects are okay but only one at a time.
Yep, the case is a must with those little devices ❤️ I've been using the s1 a lot lately, but i'm really gassing about the p6! To me it seems you could do all the op1 things we used to see back in 2020, except for the long recording thing. Roland seems to have done a really nice job with this one

The way the probability settings seem to work seems very elektron inspired, in a good way. I think this thing eclipses the model:samples in just about every way for less money, the granular and effects alone make it a lot more powerful. The one benefit I think the model:samples had over this is that it’s less menu divey and the display can show a lot more info than the calculator style screen.

This seems like a worthy successor. I didn't even register that it has an usb audio interface. I like how small and lightweight it is.
I like the Sp-404 and it would be perfect if it had a built-in mic. I still have my SP-202 and despite its primitive capabilities (by comparison to the 404) it's so easy to capture samples on the run.
I think they are both small and affordable, they could compliment each other nicely. So no need to get competitive. The Move is obviously more like a set of 4 aria, but you could create a nice vibe on the P-6 and sample into a pad on Move. I think you are trying to compare a sandwich to a main course.

What's up with these strange hand movements when operating the device? Is it too hot so that you burn yourself when you touch the buttons or is it live and you get a shock every time? I see this more and more often now and it looks so stupid.
Love mine. Two things I wish they would implement "somehow" is tweakable start and end for each slice OR ability to record/ add more slices to already existing slices in one pad. But still. Super fun as is.
