    Moogs next lesson is rev matching downshifts 🥴 rip to the clutch

    • @computiNATEor
      @computiNATEor 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      It’s not ideal, but it’s not so bad. Think about it this way - when the car starts from 0, the clutch has to move the weight of the entire vehicle. When the engine’s RPM needs to be increased, and the clutch has to move the weight of the engine’s rotating mass. That’s about it.

    • @NiSE_Rafter
      @NiSE_Rafter 3 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      @@computiNATEor Well it's also just not great in that it'll upset the vehicle going into a corner. Getting shoved into a different rpm with a different amount of engine breaking suddenly isn't exactly great for a smooth driving experience. Rev matching isn't too difficult, imo anyone driving manual should learn to rev match on down shifts. I can understand if people don't want to invest into heel toeing but they should at least rev match. I understand it's a new car to him but he's pretty experienced with driving manual at this point, for an experienced driver it doesn't take more than one drive to get used to it enough to get decent rev matches. Literally only took 30mins for me to sort out driving my buddy's turbo miata and I couldn't even reach the shifter without leaning forwards and I'm not a racing driver. Learning heel toes in my 350z made corners SO MUCH smoother at speed and inspires much more confidence in braking. For an enthusiast channel I expect them to learn enthusiast techniques, or at least the minimal basics of them.
      Edit: by sort out the miata I mean learn where to rev for downshifts

      @@computiNATEor
      Oh for sure I don’t disagree!
      But the devil’s advocate in me thinks otherwise haha.
      ~Ideally~you only have to move the weight of the car (more or less) once per session, whereas you downshift 1-3ish times per turn. From the wear perspective, that’s a lot. Maybe it’s less force, but it’s much higher frequency. Plus Newton’s laws tell us says equal and opposite reaction meaning it would be the same amount of force to accelerate to decelerate. Regardless heel-toeing is good skill to have in the arsenal. I also understand it’s a tough one to use in practice.
      Driver mod is best mod!

  • @andrewhopkins3986
    @andrewhopkins3986 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Fun fact some Lotus drivers used to use a misfiring system to make backfires. This in turn made loud noises that made it seem that they were more powerful than they actually were. Causing other drivers to push themselves harder than they normally would. Which in turn creates mistakes from other drivers. Thus giving the Lotus driver an advantage. Lotus drivers are not the only drivers who use this tactic, Street racers use it as well. And I'm sure other Motorsports like world really cross, Moto GP, etc, etc.

    +1 for heel & toe. For three reasons. 1) It allows you to brake later and turn in more smoothly. With you car on the limit more of the time your lap time will improve a lot. 2) It is much more gentle to your entire driveline, so you are less likely to break things. 3) It makes driving on the track so much more fun because it's a real skill that feels great when mastered.

Now Moog can learn to drive it fast and push the limits and it will react more progressively. I went through a similar journey with my Lotus Elise, now it's sorted you can learn to drive it faster, it will go a lot faster then you think it can go!

    Guys,
    I am thoroughly enjoying the whole Lotus adventure. Not sure why this one is so captivating for me, but probably because it is so closely matches my own automotive dreams.
    A road course is currently under constructions north of our city, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and I hope to make some laps there someday. We have had no track close by since a few years back, when the city took back the land where we had an amazing facility. Complete with a road course, an oval, and a drag strip, Race City was a wonderful place.
    Anyway, thanks for taking us along on your many quests for "automotive amazingness".
    Ron
