Then in ROTS Obi-Wan fully respects Anakin's way of going about things yet the council have severe doubts about him and feel he's progressing go quickly
@@Kissteria595 it is really interesting. The Clone Wars really inverted things. I think the war forged a stronger bond between Anakin and Obi Wan, a bond that blinded Obi Wan to the path Anakin was already starting to go down. The war also made the Jedi order lose its way even more, to the point of becoming paranoid and suspicious.
@@Markeyssc I think Anakin actually started his way down AFTER gradually becoming aware that the council doesn't trust him. If the council chose to show more faith in him it would do so much more help for Anakin since he would know there would be someone to rely on when he needed a way out, which would make him less desperate to search for means to save Padme through unusual methods.
Actually i think anakin obeyed more before padme, and became more and more rebellious and reckless during the clone wars. That's why mace lost faith in him, while obiwan saw him becoming a great jedi that actually cared and disagrred with the council (maybe it reminded him of qui gon)
And that Anakin was happy actually hearing her talk about her nieces and seeing them with R2. It makes him see that Padme really wants a family but also why he wasn’t ready to be a father but would do it for the love of his life.
@@anarcho-pingu Him being nervous kind of makes sense? A bunch of powerful people want to see his daughter dead, and he's discussing that with her not-boyfriend.
I find it upsetting and quite depressing padmes family seems like they would wholly and fully accept Anakin if he walked away from the order to be with her kind of makes me wish he did just run off with her and the fact that Luke and Leia never met their mothers side of the family just feels like a crime to me
All this Padme stuff is really good and would've fixed the romance plot so much. The fact George had filmed so much good material that never made it to the final cut makes me think he was afraid this was too boring or not 'Star Warsy' enough for the casual moviegoers.
That’s fair to think that. Kid me would have hated these scenes though. Now I’m older and while I like these scenes, I kinda understand why George cut them from the movir
That's because fans complained about "too much politics" in episode 1. It makes perfect sense why Lucas felt pressured to cut those scenes. And if they'd actually been released, most of those fans would have whined about that too.
That actually happened. The casual viewers complained there wasn't enough lightsaber action. Star Wars has a lot to do with politics and complots unfortunately too complex for the target audience.
That beginning scene where Padme speaks against that war in the senate made the latter plot have so much sense. Of course Palpatine had to find a way to get her out of the way in order to put his plans in motion. With Padme being there, the vote will most likely result in negotiation rather than violence. When both assassinations as a mean of discouragement failed, Palpatine resorted to getting her off world. Her being there is literally the biggest nail in the shoe for Palpatine. The scene also helped establish her character a lot and can be connected to her other speech in the Clone Wars series where she speaks against further expanding the Clone army.
I disagree. The Trade Federation was already suspected of being a member of the CIS. They had a vast Droid army. Having an army is a huge advantage in negotiations. Negotiations for peace are not going to work if one side is militarily stronger. The stronger side has no reason to negotiate if they are strong enough to simply take what they want. Besides having an army may be necessary if negotiations fail.
It's OK but I prefer that an army was possible rather than discussed in the Senate right from the start, it's hard to believe Padme would go offplanet. And it's weird that Padme believed the assassination attempt was because she was anti-army but also was from Dooku.
In the end, that's why I made the Extended Cut. Get the file, play it on a 4K screen, and feel like you're watching the movie again for the first time in a new light.
@@MechaSalesman I'm not sure if the trial scene really needed to be there, but these are pretty great. I'm especially partial to any scene with Dooku in it
Yeah, I doubt it would have hurt the film to have all these scenes reinserted. The film may have just been 2.5 hours long. Not too far out there for the Original Lucas 6.
@@sambascom2884 length is only part of it. I'd argued that a bigger part is how they play with the other scenes and affect the pacing. A scene can be fine in isolation but really slow down the overall film, which I could see for a lot of these.
She said this but actually she had already feelings for him. She was always in denial because of their commitments. Only in Geonosis she understood she can't longer live in this situation because she was dying inside. She truly, deeply loves Anakin after some time with him. Their bond was something they weren't used to it. So their time together in Naboo was great, because they were themselves.
Well... he ISN'T her boyfriend? And they saw each other for, what, days (?) when he and she were a child and barely a teenager? Lmao. Why do people always joke that Anakin is always getting snubbed by Padmé lmao?
They should had kept the scenes between Anakin and Padme, with the extra context it explains perfectly why they eventually fell in love instead of Anaking coming of as creepy and Padme as needy for attention.
Padme doesn't work as well here since she does come off as needy for validation, she doesn't let Anakin speak and berates him at the Naboo council when his opinion was asked for specifically.
@@nemou4985 That's actually what happens in the novel, which probably worked off the original script. And in the novel, further scenes also make it understandable on Padmé's end. She is just a headstrong individual who has a habit of wanting to take charge of her own security. She has similar arguments with both Captain Panaka and Typho in the novel as well. So she was a bit too hasty and cuts Anakin off when he was asked specifically to speak.
All of these Padme scenes should have been kept in. They completely flesh out her character, showing the person she is, and the motivations she has. The final cut of AotC has some of the most stilted dialogue, especially between Padme and Anakin. But these scenes have such a natural flow to them, especially within the context of the rest of the movie. I'm sure these scenes were cut due to time constraints, which I think is a shame, specifically for Padme's character. I think for me, the knowing look of Padme's mom when they are discussing Anakin is just *chef's kiss*. In general, Padme and Anakin's build up to their relationship would have been so much more impactful if those scenes were as nuanced as some of these scenes.
That's why I want more people to see the extended film cut as it exists now. It really does recontexualize much about Episode II's story and character development, especially for Padme's side of things. She got the short end of the stick in both II and III when it came to the deleted scenes.
@@officialmonarchmusic Honestly I do not forgive those idiots to this day! I loved seeing the economic and political struggles in TPM and it was even more amazing when Darth Plagueis pretty much solely focused on that which is my favourite Star Wars book ever. The backlash to the politics imo played a big part in why the ST is so bad, it tries to retell the OT and retroactively makes all the progression and accomplishments of the universe redundant because they were too afraid to delve into the politics. Now the galaxy is stagnant and repetitive whilst it ruins the established story and legacy of characters. It doesn’t matter the rebels triumphed over the empire in the OT, it gets reset by the worst most lazy macguffin I’ve ever seen that snipes a system from a galaxy away at faster than hyperspace and everyone can see it on different planets despite light not working that way in the Star Wars universe too haha

At home she was herself and free to speak. In front of the queen, she was a senator. And probably when they went to her home they already had passed time together. She started to have feelings for Anakin.

"Wow these scenes really put a lot into perspective about the relationship between Anakin and Padme and you can really see a natural chemistry and attachment Anakin feels which would seriously add to his character arc later on in the story... let's delete it" - George probably
I’m upset seeing a lot of really good scenes that explain Padme’s relationship with Anakin and their conflict, being scrapped. Those particular scenes would’ve helped storytelling in the movie. They make it more cohesive.
Yeah, 100% agreed. I understand why they were cut, but I would happily watch a 4-hour cut of each of the Prequel movies, with all these scenes fully restored and included.
3:43 THIS right here is what would've made AOTC so much better imo, we get background on Count Dooku, just how revered and familiar he was with the jedi order and older masters like Yoda and Qui-Gon, and why Dooku said what he said to Obi-Wan while on Geonosis, how he missed Qui-Gon and the importance his teachings had on him. Dooku becomes a very tragic character, because he's basically this twisted version of Obi's master, objectively bad, but willing to compromise Palpatine's plan of taking over the Republic. Just like Qui-Gon thought, Dooku saw the Jedi as arrogant and blinded, proven by Obi-Wan when he said they would've known about the Sith.
I think Lucas later really regretted that he cut that given that he included the family in the funeral in III and it makes more sense and meaning if you had seen the scene.
I really wish they would kept the Padmes family scenes as it adds to her character besides being the secret wife of anakin and a senator. As one of the only Star Wars characters with an actual family I think leaving in those scenes would have helped connect the audience more and it’s nice to see a more normal and relatable side to Star Wars
Honestly I don't think I've ever found a deleted scene I didn't like, but these seriously add to the movie. Shame when pacing and runtime are used to justify lobotomizing a story. Excellent job restoring these!!
Sadly we'll never find the extended footage for this movie But we'll have a chance for the 20th anniversary of Revenge of the Sith (Extended Edition) with 4 hours of deleted scenes or rather unused concept art and early drafts
Padme in the senate opposing the creation of an army just before Palps sends her away is an important scene. It's also important seeing Jar Jar stand right behind her, he knows damn well his proposition of emergency powers is the opposite of what she would want.
Being the leader of the Separatists was just his public role. He and Sidious were playing both sides in order to ignite a war that would eventually be used to transform the republic. The two of them were essentially the reason that something "needed to be done" in the first place. They and a long line of Sith Lords. There was no crisis before Phantom Menace, the republic was steady for 1 000 years. But it wouldn´t surprise me if Disney decide to invent all sorts of turmoil in order to capitalize on the gap. Dooku was just taking orders, while being duped himself. Sidious had his way with everyone until Darth Vader decided that enough is enough.
Lovee the scene with windu and Obi-Wan in the jedi hangar bay! Really cool way to show off and introduce his ship, too bad alot of these scene were cut out!😢
Lucas liked the scenes but thought they did make the film a little too long and talky rather than action focused. The released film was his director's cut.

My favourite are the extended scenes and dialogue of Plaza de España in Seville (arrival at Naboo), and Padme's bedroom, like when she talks about the aliens who struggled to adapt whilst Anakin checks out the picture. Basically we want more Naboo. As a video editor I know how painful it can be to have to leave good stuff out of a project for the sake of runtime, but most of these scenes would have made a nice addition to our Star Wars films collection 😉
Like everybody else, I wished AOTC and ROTS got an extended cut back in the day, adding back a lot of the deleted scenes. It's not like Lucas hasn't released extended versions of his movies before. Both of his director cuts of his first two films(THX-1138 and American Graffiti) add back five minutes of footage that was originally cut out by their respective studios. The special editions of the original trilogy are longer than their theatrical versions(although only ANH had scenes cut from the original release added back in) Finally, the 2001 DVD release of TPM is actually slightly extended from the the theatrical version. The podrace is longer, and there's an extra scene on Corsusant. The point is I wish we got Extended Editions for the other two prequels. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
@@ebonaparte3853yeah, I noticed that and wondered if there were any differences between the original scene and the one we ended up with, but I couldn't spot any. It looked the same.
The deleted scenes from The Phantom Menace are for the most part justified in their exclusion from the final cut. (Except for when Qui-Gon destroys a probe droid, which explains why he and Anakin were running towards the Queen's ship when Darth Maul first appears). But with Attack of the Clones, I feel like so many of these scenes would've made the film more powerful and provide more depth into the relationship between Padme and Anakin.
Holy crap those scene's with Padme and Anakin with her family had the best dialog between them...if that had been in the movie, it wouldnt have been shit on so much for the few corny scene's that was left in the movie which made it seem too awkward and rushed.

I remember when this movie came out in Germany I watched it with three of my friends. I can definitely remember Anakin meeting Padme’s family at 10:00. Later on I was confused that that scene never appeared again when it came on TV. I thought maybe I misremembered the movie but I asked my friends and they too could remembered seeing that scene of Anakin meeting Padme’s family.
JUST DISCOVERED THESE. WTF WAS george lucas thinking!!!! These scenes totally made Anakin seem normal and added so much depth to his and padmes characters. Total loss for the movies.
Aw come on, these scenes with Padme's family have some actually great chemistry with her and Anakin. what a shame they were cut, everything that was left in was so forced. Anakin even bonded with her dad!
I always especially liked the scene with Padmè's family and hate that they deleted that. With that scene, we get to know more about her and her background. That and I think it further helped the chemistry and relationship with Anakin. At least that's my opinion anyway.
I know these scenes were definitely cut because of time, but I love them so much! I really wish an extended cut would be released. They just make the characters seem more human
I wish they kept the trial scene, and with Dooku trying to interrogate Padme which would have added more depth and show how corrupted and unjust the Separatists were with their government control.
Wow, if they replaced the "i don't like sand" scene, and the Shakespeare scene, with those scenes of Padme family, this could it be a very great movie.
I feel like the sand scene should be cut but I actually think the fireplace scene was really important. But adding the parents scene was the most important but I actually feel they could have cut Obi Won talking to the younglings like Obi Won doesn’t need younglings to tell him the archives were erased
Wow I cant belive how blind padme and jedis were Dooku was practically screaming WE ARE THE REBELION AGAINST A CORRUPT LEADER WILL SCREW THE GALAXY and yet they cant see it.
I legitimately feel none of these scenes shown should’ve been cut There’s a few that you didn’t include which I feel wouldn’t have made much sense so I definitely see why they were cut but everything shown here shouldn’t have been cut It greatly expands the relationship with Anakin and padme that Lucas was trying to build and more thoroughly details who Dooku is as a person for the last few scenes and the library scene
I enjoy that we got to see the Jedi Temple's hangar in these deleted scenes. It made sense for the Jedi to have their own personal hangar bay for their Delta Starfighters, so seeing it adds some spice to the worldbuilding.
You can tell that Lucas didn't entirely have it planned out how Palpatine would take on his ROTJ face. He's clearly wearing additional makeup here as if to show he's slowly transitioning to that look. I guess when they got to ROTS they liked the idea of doing it all in one scene better and so they used the lightening. Up to that scene it's just Ian's natural face where he looks younger than he does in AOTC.
Not long after the film was released, Lucasfilm did a seminar on digital cinema in LA. They showed some behind the scenes footage I haven’t seen elsewhere, including some footage of ObiWan going back to Jango Fett’s apartment and looking around the place. Everything was in disarray as though they had left quickly, which better explains why he is running to the platform as Jango is about to take off.
I had a chance to ask Ben Burtt if they would do an extended cut like Lord of the Rings was doing at the time. His answer was essentially that George Lucas felt that each film should only have one definitive version and that they should be about 2 hours long.
r2 is thinking to himself while he's playing with ryoo and pooja "great i'm babysitting a jedi a senator and now i'm playing tag with a couple of kids who happen to be padme's nieces i don't get paid enough for this shit lol".

It’s works more with how obiwan acts in ROTS though, and it makes me like mace window more
@@Markeyssc I think Anakin actually started his way down AFTER gradually becoming aware that the council doesn't trust him.

Remember that this was supposed to 3 and half hours long. All your getting are scenes from the original version.
ultra boring add more obi wan sniff species
These are some of the best Star Wars scenes, they feel so different yet familiar. It’s a shame they were cut.

They should had kept the scenes between Anakin and Padme, with the extra context it explains perfectly why they eventually fell in love instead of Anaking coming of as creepy and Padme as needy for attention.
i agree except I dont see how you find padme needy for attention
@@maeneae same
Padme doesn't work as well here since she does come off as needy for validation, she doesn't let Anakin speak and berates him at the Naboo council when his opinion was asked for specifically.
I enjoyed the scene where anakin meets Padme’s family
I know right. I wish Disney maybe would add some of these scenes back into the film.

I've always loved that line.
I already love this movie, but these deleted scenes make it millions of times better.
The movie would flow so much more smoothly with the majority of the deleted scenes, especially the ones pertaining to Anakin and Padmé.
I understand wanting to cut scenes for pacing reasons, but they cut so much good stuff.
The irony of Padme calling Count Dooku's cause a "Rebellion" is hilarious.
He knew what needed to be done. He was just too early.
Also fighting for the same side in technicality

Up to that scene it's just Ian's natural face where he looks younger than he does in AOTC.
it is freaking crazy how many great, important, enriching and well written and acted scenes were cut out of the theatrical releases of the prequels.
Man I so wish the initial senate meeting with Padme opposing war was included. That adds so much depth to show her against palpatine
r2 is thinking to himself while he's playing with ryoo and pooja "great i'm babysitting a jedi a senator and now i'm playing tag with a couple of kids who happen to be padme's nieces i don't get paid enough for this shit lol".
5:12 Our poor little droid was left behind and had to climb up those stairs.
R2 is the real hero who saved the Galaxy
