The last dragon was very deformed and sick. But she managed to lay a clutch of eggs which were later used at Summerhall which caught on fire after king Aegon V tried using wildfire to hatch the eggs obviously it didn’t work and unfortunately it led to the death of a lot of Targaryen’s inside Summerhall at the time. Ironically Rheagar was born during this incident

So my theory is that this is Meleys' skull. Right size. Right jaw shape. And the horns are the exact same. Balerion's skull in HotD is also not the skull. Also we know that they took Meleys' head back to King's Landing after she was and Rhaenys were killed by Aegon and Aemond so it makes perfect sense. And I doubt Qyburn would know the difference.

Fresh, FAR more durable skulls 2. Scales, their primary defense 3. Incredible speed and agility which makes it near impossible to hit them 4. Distance and Wind Resistance which would make the shot lose lots of power 5. Gravity, which would also make it lose lots of power over time. 6. Huge quantities of Flesh everywhere except the head, meaning even if the scales and bones don’t block such an attack anything except a headshot or a direct hit in the throat is completely useless. A bolt like that wouldn't have done anything other than annoy Balerion had it been used on him when he was alive. A dragon's sole weak point is its eyes and they're very hard to hit; one of the Conqueror's dragons, Meraxes, was brought down by a scorpion bolt that pierced it through the eye but it was a one-in-a-million chance and a completely random shot.

I was enraged beyond belief when I first watched this. To desecrate the remains of such a magnificent creature. Scorpions aren't actually that effective against dragons, especially not ones of Balerion's like. Whilst one of the Conqueror's dragons, Meraxes, was killed by a scorpion bolt it was a one-in-a-million shot that went through the creature's eye directly into its brain. There is only one recorded instance of Balerion being wounded, after he flew off to parts unknown but suspected to be the ruins of Old Valyria. Something took a huge chunk out of his side, huge enough that it was still raw and bleeding when he returned. Precisely what was capable of doing that to a dragon like Balerion, I don't even want to imagine.
yeah, I agree. The entire sequence with the scorpions throughout the last two seasons were just plot convenience in my opinion. They could have done so much better.

It’s very sad because to make Game of Thrones by redirecting more resources on it they rushed other series like Boardwalk Empire just to rush GoT in the end, ruining it. @alphagamer9505 that event happened in season 5. This is season 7. Robert learned of dany wedding Khal drogo in episode 2 of the series. A letter from varys to jorah took two or three episodes to travel from kings landing to meereen in season 4. Information travels slow yes, but not THAT slow. There are plenty of pacing problems in regards to travel in the later seasons. This is not one of them.

Vermithots skull was much more pointy and had far more jagged teeth and his head was way smaller at the time of the dance. I do think that the skull is Meleys since Balerion only died a few decades prior to HOTD and his skull was shown there and we know it’s Balerions. While Qyburn wouldn’t know the difference between Meleys and Balerions skull since it’s been centuries since people have been like “oh this is Balerions skull” Robert Baratheon moved them and maybe they got them mixed up. The shape of the horns and teeth are the same. It’s the size that is different.
