The hound isn't a monster deep down. It meant a lot to him to be able to help his priest friend build that Sept. The only good thing that came from this was it led him back to the brotherhood without banners and they showed him that God still has a plan for him. He died knowing he found some real peace and did some real good at the end of his life.
Damn, this is fantastic. Stuff like this is why we started watching GoT in the first place. I can take or leave the dragons and zombies and epic battles. Give me hard people in a hard world, having excellent dialogue while trying to be honorable.
That was already season 6, the last with decent writing. Actually, despite having almost nothing with the books anymore storywise, it was better than the 5th
The thing that sucks is that this scene wasn't in the books, so we know D&D are capable of good writing, they just didn't care enough in seasons 7&8 because they wanted to wrap up the show and move on to other stuff. What a letdown it was to abandon the fans like that, and I feel awful for George who cautiously allowed them to develop it into a TV series only to have them run it into the ground.
Do you think Sandor will return in the books as well? I do not. I think HBO choose to bring him back because of the characters popularity. George don't do that. Also, the guy in the middle is suposed to be Lem Lemoncloak. Is not all bad what D&D did to him, since they didn't even brought Catelyn back from the river. There is a awesome video of the actor saying the "she remembers" speech, though
@@jukahri It's pretty difficult to go back and watch scenes like this, knowing how abysmal the ending is. This IS a great scene- my point is that D&D often get flack for being "bad writers", which seasons 7&8 were full of "bad writing". But are they capable of very good writing? Yes, and this scene as well as others that aren't in the books are proof of that.
@@boromirfernandes4324 I think as much as GRRM would like to think the show won't influence his writing, he probably feels obligated now to follow at least *some* of what was done in the show, after they ran out of material from his books. I can't imagine Winds of winter will be a complete departure from what we got in the show, just much more fleshed out and perhaps with more satisfying conclusions. I do think we will get Cleganebowl in the books, so Sandor will probably be back.
Such a brilliant scene from start to finish. No wasted dialogue, no false bravado; it's a simple and straightforward showcase of warriors who have warriors' honor and understanding between them. Behind all the vitriol and anger, there is a connection between all of these men who trade in death.
Yes, good scene. I liked the show from the very beginning, because most of the characters, especially in the North, look very natural with their "medieval" simplicity, rawness or brutality. Such as here or, for example, Yoren, Craster, Roose Bolton... They are much more convincing than many characters from many non-fantasy films based on real events.
2:42 The camaraderie is amazing. The hound literally killed the guy and now they're sharing food and wine. Circumstances dictate they're rivals but they still respect each other
Sandor is a true knight of heart since day one. He just happened to be born in a shitty place, beaten by a shitty older brother, worked for shitty people doing shitty works. When the whole world is set on giving you only shit, you become a pig, that’s how you survive. His heart never changed. He just locked it far away from all the shit, under an impenetrable fortress of unparalleled sheer will to strive in this shitty world. Built it for years and years until one day he realized that if it meant dying for all this shit, it would be on his own damn terms. The pig broke the fence.
Not really. Arya had the worst arc in the whole show, and the Hound wasn't much better. Having him fight his brother was hollow fan service, nothing more.
"You've got friends ?" "Not anymore." "They die." "We all bloody die." "Chop off one hand." "You're getting old Clegane." "He's not." This scene is just perfect. I miss this show.
I like the small detail that he pushes the log hard on the first one so the neck snaps instantly, but the leader he purposely pushes it slower. Even at on the brotherhoods terms he still makes him suffer
I always viewed this as a great concept I love in media. Fucking with a bad man is stupid. Fucking with a bad man who's TRYING to go good is even stupider.
@@thirdlantern It sucks, they did great when they had books to go off but the last two seasons were nothing but cliff notes of what they knew and that’s exactly what we got.
@@hildaenjoyer8862 Most of Season 6 is after the books and/or made up as the story diverged quite a bit from the books anyway. The real reason Season 6 is good is because it's *before all of the different plotlines needed to converge.* Then things get messy. Realistically, with Dany's dragons, Dothraki and Unsullied, the story may as well be over. *She's insanely overpowered and hard to write around.* It's a tipping point. Unlike the Dance Of Dragons, it's extremely one-sided. For example, how can you attempt a siege of Highgarden or do anything when Dany can just fly there? How can you wrap up the Purple Wedding plotline and get that well written exchange between Lady Olenna and Jaime? If it was easy to finish, George would have done it a decade ago, tbh
The Hound is one of the best characters to come out of GOT. He's a truly neutral person with no fealty to anyone. And his attitude makes the character perfect along with his size
Such a Love-Hate relationship ( or not even that ) between the Hound and Beric/Thorus /The Brotherhood : such animosity and yet they can find common ground against other / bigger enemies ...
I'd love an entire show based on the Brotherhood or something the like. A group of mercenaries just doing contracts in a fantasy world as realistic as Westeros. This level of realism and dark sorcery could be appplied to something like The Black Company and it would look incredible.
You think being a coldblooded savage murderer and taking the boots from his feet as he murder's him before he dies without showing any emotion over it is as good thing for a human being to be like?
Love the negotiations and deal making between the Brotherhood and Clegane: "you can have one", "two", "okay, no butchering, I'll just cut off one hand", and so on.
Clegane was easily my favorite character of many many great characters in the show. His hyper realist, violent, but still basically moral, decency just really spoke to me. Like a lot of things in the last season he was done wrong. The Mountain by the end was more just a robotic object of pity than the evil brother than he wanted revenge on. Why bother?
Interesting to hear him say he would have killed "all 7 of them". He is such an experienced fighter that he had completely analyzed the party he was facing while casually engaging in a conversation. A true seasoned warrior, always aware of his surroundings, he was probably planning how to engage all of them in the back of his head to be ready to act if something detonated a fight.
Me too i thought how his character evolved from just doing what he was told without question to actually having his own morels he deserved a better ending although he was always prepared to die for his revenge.
The part where Thoros puts 2 and 2 together about why Sandor is burying the farmer and his daughter was one of the saddest and most beautiful moments in the entire series.
In such a terrific, well played scene they kicked it right through the goal posts with Clegane pulling the boots off the feet of the man he just hanged while he's still chocking to death.

"We all bloody die...except this one here." -- Best line
Damn, this is fantastic. Stuff like this is why we started watching GoT in the first place. I can take or leave the dragons and zombies and epic battles. Give me hard people in a hard world, having excellent dialogue while trying to be honorable.
That was already season 6, the last with decent writing. Actually, despite having almost nothing with the books anymore storywise, it was better than the 5th
This dialogue isn't that great. It's alright I guess but everything to do with the hound after season 4 is pretty underwhelming

Can't you just appreciate something without having to bring up season 7 & 8 every single time?
The fact that they CAN write, but chose not to, is why I despise them so much. They ruined something wonderful out of sheer laziness.
He has to be one of the best written characters in a show.
He was definitely my favorite character
Such a brilliant scene from start to finish. No wasted dialogue, no false bravado; it's a simple and straightforward showcase of warriors who have warriors' honor and understanding between them. Behind all the vitriol and anger, there is a connection between all of these men who trade in death.
I beg to differ. The line about them being nancies should have been cut. Rewatch, imagine that line gone - perfect.
Him not looking at the archer is a bit cliched as well.
2:42 The camaraderie is amazing. The hound literally killed the guy and now they're sharing food and wine. Circumstances dictate they're rivals but they still respect each other
I like how Clegane frightens all of them -- like just talking to him is tempting death.
Except thoros
@@drssssssssscuz Thoros was an alcoholic with no particular interest in life besides booze

How can so many of his lines be this good?
He’s been through so much yet he’s still a good man. Love that
He has decided to be the opposite of a good man for a long time then he had enough of it.
@@Omertahun He wasn't a bad man. He was an obedient man. His masters were bad men.
Clegane and Bronn had the best lines in the entire show. Probably my favorite characters out of the bunch.
GOT was at its best when it slowed down and was thoughtful.
The Hound's arc was perhaps the most satisfying of any characters in the show. His and Arya's.
Arya’s was pure shit
Not really. Arya had the worst arc in the whole show, and the Hound wasn't much better. Having him fight his brother was hollow fan service, nothing more.
@@HOTD108_ You're crazy Arya's was great

"Not anymore."

"Chop off one hand."
"You're getting old Clegane."
"He's not."
This scene is just perfect. I miss this show.
I like the small detail that he pushes the log hard on the first one so the neck snaps instantly, but the leader he purposely pushes it slower. Even at on the brotherhoods terms he still makes him suffer
The leader’s neck didn’t snap instantly because he’s fat. Thick necks don’t snap as easily.
"We all Bloody die. Except this one here." Best line ever!
Taking the guys boots while he's still hanging is peak Sandor.
The dialog in this scene is fantastic. A rarity in the later seasons.
I always viewed this as a great concept I love in media. Fucking with a bad man is stupid. Fucking with a bad man who's TRYING to go good is even stupider.
I think when he says you’re getting old clegane “HE’s NOT” is up there with Samuel L Jackson when he’s like “Im sorry did I break your concentration”
Hound looting corpses like he in an MMO. My man need those legendaries.
An actor playing Berric has sucha a good voice that he could be a voice actor for games or videobooks. Incredible.
Certain characters make shows great and he is definitely one of them
I love how he delivers these lines with annoyance rather than any real anger. Everything seems to exist just to make his day worse.
This was some of the sharpest and best performed dialogue in the entire series.
S6 was the last really good season, it doesn't deserve being put in the same category as S7 and S8.
@@hildaenjoyer8862 Couldn't agree more. The way they wrapped things up should be embarrassing.
Best part of the show. Wish they had more of these guys.
"Drop that arrow, you bloody girl" always cracks me up 😂
I'd love an entire show based on the Brotherhood or something the like. A group of mercenaries just doing contracts in a fantasy world as realistic as Westeros. This level of realism and dark sorcery could be appplied to something like The Black Company and it would look incredible.
The Hound taking the boots as the dude is still kicking is savage level cold blooded. That he just does it so matter of factly makes it 100× better. Great character, The Hound. I'm glad that D n D at least let him get even with his brother at the end.
They didn't fu©k up his character arc as badly as they did to most of the others.
Good boots are hard to find.
You think being a coldblooded savage murderer and taking the boots from his feet as he murder's him before he dies without showing any emotion over it is as good thing for a human being to be like?
@@eseholmes4592 And that man is dead, he won't need them.

Of all the things they messed up and halfassed I'm glad my boy Beric got the quality he deserved. Still one of my favorite characters
"Tougher Girls than you tried to kill me" 🤣 so true
To be fair Brienne was tougher then most of the males.
The hound was by far the best character in GOT and honestly it wasn’t even a close competition. Guys a GOAT
always come back to watch scenes of The Hound
1:09 tougher girls than you have tried to kill me
Arya: aww he remembered
Love the negotiations and deal making between the Brotherhood and Clegane: "you can have one", "two", "okay, no butchering, I'll just cut off one hand", and so on.
The balance between vengeance and justice.
It's easy to go 'nope, all justice' but the opportunity for Law went out the window with King Tommen.
Why bother?
Every other line out of the Hound's mouth is a reference to something that happened back when the writing in the show was good.
What a shame that the shows ending wasted these wonderful characters and the fantastic performances of these incredible actors.
The creators were in love with Cersei, that's why.

"You're getting old Clegane"
"He's not."
That's a hard fucking line.
This is one of the scenes that I love to watch over and over
Beric is an underrated character in the show…
Interesting to hear him say he would have killed "all 7 of them".
He is such an experienced fighter that he had completely analyzed the party he was facing while casually engaging in a conversation. A true seasoned warrior, always aware of his surroundings, he was probably planning how to engage all of them in the back of his head to be ready to act if something detonated a fight.
This scene feels like the last gasp of GRRM-quality dialogue before the wheels started falling off the show.
That was Olenna and Jaime. S7 was shit but that scene was brilliant.
The Hound was one of the best characters from start to finish. Had a near perfect arc.
I love how the Hound steals his boot before he’s even dead hahaha
That guy that got hanged should feel honored that one of the baddest men walking the earth chose to take his boots & wear them after killing him.
Better is when he looks up whilst holding the boots, with them wriggling on the ropes and says "got anything to eat?"
Love the Hound. He has the best story in the show imo. I wish he had hadn’t died killing his brother.
Me too i thought how his character evolved from just doing what he was told without question to actually having his own morels he deserved a better ending although he was always prepared to die for his revenge.

One of the best characters in G.o.t...made to be "scary and brutal" and yet you can feel his good side..👏👏👏
The part where Thoros puts 2 and 2 together about why Sandor is burying the farmer and his daughter was one of the saddest and most beautiful moments in the entire series.
