I am close to spraying my 68 conv F.B., (first paint project for me) and I'm conflicted. It seems you wanted 12+ hours after your thinned seal coat, our friend over at VVG sprayed color 30 minutes or so after his seal coat on his project car. Is their a concern with waiting? How much thinned epoxy was that final coat was sprayed? How much color paint did each coat represent? Thanks for any comments.
I hear you bro. you live and learn man. next time i will be painting the base, wait 12 hours before any clears and candies. just give myself a chance to correct anything before i get to the point of no return. I will work it out.
Looks good, the sag in the candy needed to be sanded out before clear, then blended back In, if you cut thru the clear which you will have to do to get that out, when you re spray the clear on it it will lift if your not really careful because the of the introduction of fresh solvents. you also won’t be able to blend the clear you will have to re clear the whole quarter or it will cloud up where the clear is unless you use a clear blender, but I would just clear the whole quarter so there is no blend line to come back and bite you, also you can use tweezers to retrieve Harold before the clear next time. But please don’t take my word for it, consult a professional before attempting that candy fix. You have done an amazing job you should be very proud.
Yeah I was kind of hoping that I would wake up this morning and it would disappear or just be a bad dream... so much for that. I have been researching this all morning and your plan of attack seems to be the best. I won't know for sure until I start to sand it a bit and see what it looks like. I am sure it won't be perfect but I am confident I can get it much better then it is. Thank you Roger.
yes I did. I painted all the jams and interior surfaces of the panels prior to final body prep and paint. there are a few videos on how I did that. thanks for watching.
@@LakeAndLodgeGarage I am doing the exact same thing, about 1-2 weeks away at this point. I am not clear on how to mask the door edges so that I get good coverage and no potential gaps in paint along the edge when I spray the inside of the door and then afterward when I spray the outside of the door, already mounted to the car along with the fender and quarter panel, that I do not end up with some paint line hard edge on the edge of the door or jamb where the inside and outside paint jobs come together. What grit would you sand the clear when you are doing a blend job like this. I understand back taping and have some of that 3M foam tape just not sure if that is enough. Hope this makes sense. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much for your help!
@@midnighttutor good question. on the doors what I did was when I painted the jams on the back side I face taped the front of the door so that the edge was painted. Then when I painted the front side I skuffed the paint on the edge and again face taped the back and painted the edge again. We will see how that worked out when I unmask it. on the jam where the striker plate is is a little more tricky. I used the round foam tape to kind of give me a soft edge that I am hoping I can buff out. again I will show the results of this method when I unmask it. if it was single stage none of this would be an issue. but because it is base candy and clear it gets tough. I wet sanded the clear for the flow coat and blend points at 400 grit and that seemed to work real nice but again time will tell. I will try to point out these areas when I unmask the body to show the result.

I just finished watching Jon cutting in his work in progress! Looks really nice
These are some of the best looking cars from my childhood. Had a 68 Firebird Convertible as my first car I bought for $125.
Came out super nice.

What color is that, Hormel Chili? Looks good.
Great job and video! Curious...did you paint the jambs and inside doors earlier? I have not watched all your videos. Thank you!
