    I've made every mistake a player can make in this game. and for many years too. I'm 45 years old and I have zero talent. But since a couple of years , I"ve been watching these kind of video's. And they helped me change my game. This video is the best I have seen so far. Great job, and thank you.

    Totally agree with that lightly grip. U can save the effort to play and use the weight of cue to pot the power shot, also easy to do the cue action.

    Great video Steve. Many thanks for your dedication to these videos. Regarding the two grips you outlined, I have been attempting to embed grip 1 for the past 18 months and have always struggled with it - my main issues were probably having too tight a grip and a tendency for middle/back fingers grabbing on to the cue and taking it off line during the delivery stroke. After watching your video, I thought I'd give grip 2 (thumb and middle fingers) a try today. I was absolutely amazed with the results. For some reason, it seems to automatically result in a looser grip and I don't have to worry about what the fingers are doing - they don't seem to interfere with the cue action in the way that they did with Grip 1. I also seem to be getting through the cue ball much better than I did with Grip 1. I will persevere with this grip and if it continues to deliver those results, then that will be my default grip in future. That will be the only thing that I have in common with Ronnie O'Sullivan and Steve Barton! Many thanks Steve - your videos are wonderful.......

      Yes maybe you are thinking too much. You can also halt your progress by trying to be 'perfect' on the shot. Develop your natural action and over time it will become smoother.

    Good Afternoon Sir, There is a confusion in my mind so can you answer my question ?
    There are two things :-
    1) We have to hit the arm on to the chest for every shot.
    2) In the last feather we brings back the cue onto the ' V ' so that cue will finish straight.
    My question is when we bring back the cue on the V then in the end of the shot the cue will automatically hit the chest or we have to do it ?
    Do the both things are automatically connected or we have to do it ?
    Like, if i think about hit the chest on the every shot so the cue will come on the V automatically ?
    Kindly reply, regards
    Thank you.

    • @BartonSnooker
      @BartonSnooker  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You have to think about both things and do it. This is what practice is for. Thinking about things and making them become a habit. Then later you will no longer need to think about it.

    Hello, random comment, but off the top of your head, is there a book that you would recommend for beginners at snooker coming from American pool. Found amazing success with Byrne's books for pool/billiards and was wondering if you have something like that but for snooker that you loved when you were learning snooker.
    Also love these types of videos. By far my favorite.

      I have "How I Play Snooker" by Joe Davis. Thats a fantastic book. I also have both of Ronnie's books. I have Stephen Hendry's book. I also have Steve Davis' book.
      As you can see, I have many books. I read them all as I like as much of an insight as I can possibly get.

    Hello Barton, I have a problem that when i use hard stun shot, in the end my right hand thumb always hit my right chest so that the cue will be trend to the left a little bit. That cause the cue ball can not go straight or has side spin. How can i improve my stance ? I am a right hand player. ^^

    Hello Steve, thanks for great teaching in these videos. Can you give an advice on how i can maintain my consistency, when practicing and putting my practice into match play? Thanks

    • @BartonSnooker
      @BartonSnooker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Always practice EXACTLY as you are going to play in your match play.
      If you play slow in practice, play the same speed in match play.
      If you play with fluency in practice, take that into your match play.
      Never practice one thing, and then do another in matches. Whatever if your ideal rhythm, do that all the time. I practice and in your matches.

    Yer awesome Dude, Yer coaching is really helpful ..
    I have a Question.
    I'm a Right handed player with my left Eye dominant and I don't really know where to place my cue under chin!

    • @BartonSnooker
      @BartonSnooker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most players find a comfortable chin position naturally that doesn't need changing.
      You CANNOT just put the cue under the left eye just because that is your dominant one.
      For some players it will be centre chin, others under the left eye, and others closer to the right eye (even though they are all left-eye-dominant).

    How do I know if I'm in the correct line when I'm getting down at the shot?? Where should I look at when getting down frm our standing position, object ball or cue ball?? TIA

    • @BartonSnooker
      @BartonSnooker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You will never know for absolutely certainty until you have played lots of snooker and are very comfortable with any given angle.
      You look at the object ball when standing up and aiming. That gives you the contact area you want. As you get down, flick to the cue ball to make sure you get down to strike exactly where you want.
      Then do a few checks between cue ball and object ball until you are happy you will pot the ball.
      Hope that helps!

      Be sure that you go nice through the cueball like in every other shot.
      If you strike too powerful with that then try to make the last backswing not to far.

    I have watched many of your videos, a lot of them I find very obvious because I've actually never taking coaching classes, just played from a young age and it looks obvious... But the way you describe it almost makes me over-think at times. Do do have any advice for players who think they're natural enough but could improve? Also, I don't think I've seen a video about left-vs-right-handed players. I am left-handed. Is it basically mirror-image technique?

    • @BartonSnooker
      @BartonSnooker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! I think you're right that for some players things just come naturally and they've never really thought about it (especially having playing from a young age). But yeah, if you're already doing things I'm talking about, there's nothing to think about.
      What standard do you play to out of interest? Highest break?
      Yes, left handed is just mirror image.

    • @kristiansaether2320
      @kristiansaether2320 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BartonSnooker Okay cool, thank you. I only made this comment because I see the way you just seem to easily make your way around the table doing shots I might do normally but not consistently... My best break is 104 but my next best break is only about 54 (I actually can't remember, had a few around 50-60).
