I hadn't played snooker for 10 years, been a single parent since 2013 but watching videos like this got me playing again, the little tips ive got from this channel and barton snooker and break from life got me knocking 20's in regularly, my goal this year is to make my first 50 break, honestly cant tell you how much i appreciate chaps like this sharing what they know, amazing

I tried this technique out last time I went to practice at the Club I belong to. It made a wonderful difference! As a woman I find there are so many "experts" wanting to coach you that it can be overwhelming when everyone has their different "tips" to give you. I love being able to practice some basic techniques to help me improve my game. Barry delivers the message in very simple terms that is easy to watch and learn from.
Dayamitra. I find this all the time, people giving well meant but naive advice, it is always a problem for the beginner knowing who to listen to. I am very pleased Selina came to see me, she was in the same position as you, doing her own thing but at the same time listening to that well meant/naive advice. She has made good progress and is now playing for a local team when her employment allows.

I have a lesson with him and then come home and check out your video's for similar practices and to see perhaps the same techniques from a different perspective. What a fantastic coaching session. As someone who is looking to totally revamp their backhand grip to a more conventional grip the segment on the backhand grip was brilliant, so detailed and explained thoroughly without being too complex. Thanks Barry....:--)
MEECHIO. My pleasure. When a player has a problem with his game it is a fair bet that the grip is related to that problem, either where or how he is holding the cue.
I am actually a very good player but I never had any idea how to teach it to my girlfriend to make her pocket the balls, I could simply send this video to her but being pragmatic, I taught her these minute things on my own following your videos and now she's more impressed and she's doing a great job as well! 😎 Thank you very much old man for sharing your experience here!
Now this takes it to a whole new level. It's one thing to watch Kyren or Ronnie, or even you practice. You three are so grooved in the stroke, but to watch you work with someone not so advanced is highly enlightening (although she does have a good stroke already). Also seeing the breakdown of the cuing action with helpful reminders along the way is awesome! Can't wait for the next one, but I'm going to watch this one a few (dozen) more times. I am pleasantly surprised amazed, at how helpful this lesson is to me. Being self taught and mediocre it is eye opening to see the basics coached to a wiling, talented person. Very much appreciate this approach by tboth participants. Willing to bet this will help me challenge my friend better than up to now.

While watching this video, I was thinking about my very first lessons, when I was starting to play pool (I mean when I started to learn how to play billiards in the right way). My short term coach was good too, but not as detailed as you are. I wish I had a coach like you, I still need one in spite of playing snooker more then 3 years now. This was all quit familiar, but anyway thanks again for your videos, they are so helpful.
I started playing snooker again after many years and have been trying to get these basics right from last few weeks, but am unable to, but here in this video I could see where I was going wrong, excited to practice this weekend to try out the suggestions

Karen. To achieve what you have achieved you must have natural ability. In my early days I too was a reasonable player but I knew something was holding me back so I did my research, changed a whole lot of things and my game developed from there. Unfortunately with a family and mortgage, earning a living became my priority so any snooker revolved around coaching.
Great series of videos Barry. Great to re-visit the basics. Had a lesson with Frank Adamson years ago and still have the piece of tape he placed towards the butt of the cue to help with hand position there to this day
Mr. Stark, for some reason I've been watching snooker for several months. No chance this e boy from South Carolina USA, will ever get to play, but what a great game you guys have. Im a golfer, but quite frankly, snooker may be the world's last real gentleman's game. Our eight and nine ball here is more of a verbal mental game I can't stand.

Yes indeed...Paul Mifsud was an exceptional player!! Tony Drago was on another level though and he was in the top 10 for quite a while when he was a Pro. We now have another good fella coming up...his name is Brian Cini...amazing talent!!
EJBENNIE The funny thing is that when you practice the grip alongside all the other key aspects of snooker and eventually learn how to use the grip there's nothing you should "remember", it all comes naturally without any thinking process.
Many weeks back I asked your opinion regarding unusually strong bounces off the rail. I’m relatively new to Snooker. Your response took me by surprise. I’d never have thought static electricity could be a possible cause. I’ve been playing a good amount since then and haven’t come up with any reasonable theory matching yours. Static electricity it is then.
Mr B. Don't know if I said it last time but it is a physical impossibility for a ball to bounce off the cushion faster than it hit the cushion unless there is another force at work. The only force I can come up with is static electricity, if someone can prove me wrong I will gladly listen and be educated.
also if there is cue chalk on the ball and the when the ball hits the rail with the chalk mark in between the rail and ball ... you will notice that the ball bounces back much more than if the ball was clean. You can experiment this quite easily ... take two balls in one hand and bounce them simultaneously on the rail at medium/low speed... they will bounce back together and travel the same distance more or less. NOW, make a chalk mark with the cue chalk on the rail and bounce the same two balls with one hand, one ball must hit the chalk mark on the rail. You will notice that the ball which hits the Chalk mark will bounce unusually stronger off the rail and much further than the ball which did not hit the chalk mark.

Necia. Selina is making rapid progress I am told. I haven't seen her for a while so I don't really know her present form, but she is certainly keen to improve.
Alby. Its always difficult when you initially change something and it can be frustrating when you move out of your comfort zone, but if something is not working then it needs to be changed so well done.
I've been making that mistake for years gripping the cue in the same place and just moving the bridge hand to play the shot.thanks for pointing this out.
Roy. You will have to move the bridge hand on occasions because of its position on the table and the position of other balls but try to keep any excessive movement to a minimum.
Love the coaching sessions, and the well-made videos. Question about the stroke-length markings, how are these determined? From the land of 8-ball, I find Snooker fascinating and want to find a table.
Wade. The first mark is between 10 and 12 inches indicating where the bridge hand is positioned, the second mark is 6 inches away from the first and indicates the amount of follow through. These marks are only guide lines and may vary slightly between players.
hi , I am enjoying and benifeted your videos too much, thank you. I am playing snooker from time to time say twice a week but missing a lot of shots.I am using the club cues is this affecting the play much?, mean do you advice to buy a personal cue and what quality you advice?
Mohammad. Certainly using club cues is not ideal and it will affect your game and therefore your progress in the game. Please get your own cue but as a beginner it would be advisable to take a more experienced friend with you when you choose. I am afraid you get what you pay for, so although choosing a cue is a personal thing it is also important to go to a reputable dealer. Choose between ash or maple shaft, an ebony butt, three quarter jointed cue or one piece. Make sure it is straight, about 17 to 18 ounces in weight, nicely balanced and no varnish on the shaft.

Yes indeed...Paul Mifsud was an exceptional player!! Tony Drago was on another level though and he was in the top 10 for quite a while when he was a Pro. We now have another good fella coming up...his name is Brian Cini...amazing talent!!

There’s a lot to take in but this is fascinating, the difficult part to remember is the opening and closing the hand when delivering the cue
EJBENNIE The funny thing is that when you practice the grip alongside all the other key aspects of snooker and eventually learn how to use the grip there's nothing you should "remember", it all comes naturally without any thinking process.

Many weeks back I asked your opinion regarding unusually strong bounces off the rail. I’m relatively new to Snooker. Your response took me by surprise. I’d never have thought static electricity could be a possible cause. I’ve been playing a good amount since then and haven’t come up with any reasonable theory matching yours. Static electricity it is then.
Mr B. Don't know if I said it last time but it is a physical impossibility for a ball to bounce off the cushion faster than it hit the cushion unless there is another force at work. The only force I can come up with is static electricity, if someone can prove me wrong I will gladly listen and be educated.
also if there is cue chalk on the ball and the when the ball hits the rail with the chalk mark in between the rail and ball ... you will notice that the ball bounces back much more than if the ball was clean. You can experiment this quite easily ... take two balls in one hand and bounce them simultaneously on the rail at medium/low speed... they will bounce back together and travel the same distance more or less. NOW, make a chalk mark with the cue chalk on the rail and bounce the same two balls with one hand, one ball must hit the chalk mark on the rail. You will notice that the ball which hits the Chalk mark will bounce unusually stronger off the rail and much further than the ball which did not hit the chalk mark.
Learnt so much from this vid, my cue action has always been wrong

I've been making that mistake for years gripping the cue in the same place and just moving the bridge hand to play the shot.thanks for pointing this out.
Roy. You will have to move the bridge hand on occasions because of its position on the table and the position of other balls but try to keep any excessive movement to a minimum.
Love the coaching sessions, and the well-made videos. Question about the stroke-length markings, how are these determined? From the land of 8-ball, I find Snooker fascinating and want to find a table.
Wade. The first mark is between 10 and 12 inches indicating where the bridge hand is positioned, the second mark is 6 inches away from the first and indicates the amount of follow through. These marks are only guide lines and may vary slightly between players.

I am playing snooker from time to time say twice a week but missing a lot of shots.I am using the club cues is this affecting the play much?, mean do you advice to buy a personal cue and what quality you advice?
Mohammad. Certainly using club cues is not ideal and it will affect your game and therefore your progress in the game. Please get your own cue but as a beginner it would be advisable to take a more experienced friend with you when you choose. I am afraid you get what you pay for, so although choosing a cue is a personal thing it is also important to go to a reputable dealer. Choose between ash or maple shaft, an ebony butt, three quarter jointed cue or one piece. Make sure it is straight, about 17 to 18 ounces in weight, nicely balanced and no varnish on the shaft.

I think this is a really decent way to tackle the miss rule, put the opponent back three times and then play the shot from where the cue ball ends. I really appreciate your knowledge Sir, thank you so very much!!!!
George. Your local league can use variations on this, but we found it works a treat.
