    I’ve started doing this while playing pool and also on the break, it gives a lot more control over the cue and makes me cue a lot straighter

    Thanks Steve this is great advice and many other coaches do not explain this fully or demonstrate it...like you say...even on the softer shots...by shortening everything we can still achieve this. You look good on the shot dude 👍

    I am going away from touching my chest and actually I am having very good results. I realized that a flaw on my game was because I was touching the chest and my cue shaked a bit to the right, inserting right hand side. The key is to have the grip travelling always the same distance. Do that and you will improve. For me touch the chest don't work, I just try to finish always early, don't matter if it is a soft or hard shot.

    Hi Steve,
    Just a quick one. When I follow through sometimes I hit my chest with quite a bit of power and the cue finishes off line after the shot is played, sometimes this happens even when the object ball goes in. I am a decent player but I would like to get this fixed so I get greater feedback after shots. What could I do about it? Thank you in advance, love your channel mate!

    Why is the stance different in snooker vs pools? People have said in pool you need to move the cue ball more but than here at 6:17 you're moving the white all the way around a 12 x 6 foot table no problem. There's also that insane hi-light reel of Jimmy White popping off at 11.

    No doubt you have the best ways to explain and coach us on TH-cam. Clear straight to the point and not too simple as well not to complicate things. Would love to join your class, but sadly am at the other side of the world. Probably once I get a table setup could use some lessons online.

    might be a silly question but where do you position the flat spot of the cue handle when down on a shot. I have often wondered about the purpose or use of that flat part of the cue butt.

    Could you also talk about the pause. When I met you you suggested pausing at the cue ball which I used to do years ago. Now I pause at back swing which allows me more screw power and better composure. Could you discuss which players do which pauses and the pros and cons. Cheers

    Great video! Quick question: I've noticed watching that a fair few pro's don't seem to stop at the chest. It appears they "slam the breaks" and stop just before they hit the chest. Can you explain this please?

  • @teleplayer7081
    @teleplayer7081 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow am I dumb! I was trying to control the strength of my soft shots by drawing my cue all the way back and then controlling how hard I push through. Makes way more sense to not draw back so far and then control the power of your shot. Ty:)

    So, this is all about the backswing, right? it's not about delivering the cue to the chest. In your example shot (requires tiny bit of power), if you pull a long backswing, then you don't need to deliver your hand to the chest.

    Hi Steve, in addition to this you should probably stress that it is not literally "hitting the chest". I have been struggling with this for many years. I am former rower and my chest is quite developed and I have a heavy hand. Hitting the chest for me means getting cue out of line just like that. So, it depends - if you are flat chested - no problem, otherwise you should define the stop point just before hittin' a chest and train your muscle memory to that. Of course, if you do not drop your elbow. Cheers and keep coming with good vids!

    Hello Steve
    I have a cue action problem, but I have to separate the front and back parts because I took a video to correct my cue action. The first part is straight from backswing to contact with the object ball. There is no problem with the straight shot in the middle distance. But after the tip touches the object ball, I continue to follow through, and my right hand is pushed to the right by the chest, causing the shaft to shift to the left and originally, the cue was close to the chin, but after follow through, the cue will move to the right side of the chin. I have tried deliberately pushing the cue to the left, and little follow through to avoid contact with the chest, but I think it is not very successful. , especially when power shot is needed Now the potting is successful, but the cue is tilted. I have observed that this situation does not occur with many pro. Is there any way to solve it ?

I play 8 ball pool in the gamesroom pub that I work in... Hi, do you shorten your bridge length when in and amongst the balls playing those little stuns and screws, thanks.

    • @BartonSnooker
      @BartonSnooker  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do on very delicate little soft screw shots. You'll see that a lot with all professional players. For 80% of shots, stick to your standard bridge length. For those delicate shots, no problem in shortening up a bit, to allow a solid follow through whilst maintaining control.

  • @RicStaR2410
    @RicStaR2410 ปีที่แล้ว

    Almost all shots should be followed through fully, but not quite all. This should really be clarified for beginners, most people who play will know this intuitively, but beginners need clarification on everything. T
    here are several shots where follweing through all the way would quite obviously cause fouls. If you are tapping up to a ball for example in a safety situation. Or if object ball and cue ball are very close and following through would cause you to double hit the white ball or even in some cases go through and hit white and object ball. If a ball is over the pocket and cue ball very close to object ball, could double hit the white into the pocket.
    I haven't watched the whole video, and should probably do so before writing this, but I didn't want to forget and let some beginners take it a but to literally.
    If it gets mentioned later that there are a few occasions where following through fully aren't possible, then I apologise. Again, didn't want to forget. I don't doubt he knows this, just slipped up slightly by not saying it.

    Hi. You gave an example of Judd Trump being able to generate lots of power without dropping the elbow. How then do you think he does it? is it by increasing backswing even more?

    • @BartonSnooker
      @BartonSnooker  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      He has a normal bridge length and follow through to the chest. He just has very quick acceleration of the cue and fantastic timing. Sometimes even Judd (on very high power deep screw shots), will throw the cue up off the bridge hand to generate the power. But mostly he does it by fast, precise accurate acceleration of the hand to the chest.

    • @MoiFidodido1966
