    Seems more complicated than necessary. If you have to sterilise the jars you might aswell do it with the LC inside. Okay, you need to let it cool, but that's just something to plan for. Also.... Peptone.... it must be cheaper over the pond.... it's ridiculously expensive here!

    • @FreshfromtheFarmFungi

    2.5g of peptone in 500ml is a huge amount is it not?
    or does the filtering remove most of it?
    i've added 0.5g in 1,000ml of LC & my mycelium grew so fast it started growing mats in the jar after just a few days.

    • @FreshfromtheFarmFungi
      @FreshfromtheFarmFungi  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes it is a lot but it’s still 10x less then other recipes I use. .5% peptone compared to 4% honey water - you can get away with much less 👍

      @flakey1228 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FreshfromtheFarmFungi Try 5% Dextrose with 0.08% soy Peptone.
      Anything above 0.1% slows down the growth.
      For 500ml
      475g destilled water
      25g dextrose
      +0.4g Soy Peptone
      You can also buy a slready sterilized 5% glucose solution with injection port from for example braun.
      There is enough air in the water, to support ~2 weeks worth of mycelium growth.
      A good methode is to sterilize a peptone solution and inject 0.08% soy peptone into the glucose solution.

    Hey man! I’ve watched so so many of your videos and they’re all so informative!! (Your mushroom breeding videos are my favorite)
    I’m a cadet at USAFA right now and I’m trying to start a mycology club soon. Have you tried using food waste (and possibly wood waste) to grow mushrooms?? I have an idea on using our dining halls waste, composting it, or sterilizing it to use as spawn starter or substrate. Do you think that idea is plausible for something like Lions Mane or a more popular edible mushrooms?

    • @shroomieshrooms6551
      @shroomieshrooms6551 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Composting woodchips with composted food waste cant work for woodloving mushrooms such as lionsmane or if it does it'll be very difficult and low yeild.
      Instead what you should do is compost food waste mixed with straw, grass cutting, wood shaving/chips and/or manure. This'll create a mix ideal for button mushrooms or even almond agaric and other tertiary decomposers.
      Composted materials is for tertiary decomposers mostly, which are your mushrooms that grow from soil or even manure, where as most gourmet mushrooms are primary decomposers and require not decomposed woodchip/substrate, although they can but wont produce the best yield and will most likely cause contam issues if not steriled properly

    • @FreshfromtheFarmFungi
      @FreshfromtheFarmFungi  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      it may work for secondary decomposers (agaricus, stropharia etc.). I have used spent grains from a distillery for spawn but it was very time sensitive. If you want to grow lions mane, look for local woodworkers who use raw hardwoods like table manufacturers or people who sell big slabs and you can grow on that relatively cheaply 👍🍄❤️
