I love your videos. We have a 6 month old Shiba Inu and your videos are a big reason why we got her. She's amazing. She's changed our lives for the better in so many ways. There's nothing quite like a Shiba!
I realised that Shibas are very protective of their personal space and have a lot of trust issues with regards to touch. The breakthrough for me was when my brother looked after my boi while I was away for the weekend and he spent 48 hours just stroking my shibe constantly. It kinda broke him. After this, doggo loved physical affection. He would approach and kinda bow and press his head against me. In the end I accidentally developed this shibe massage for his neck and back which he loved and kept asking for. Our physiology is very different but what we have in common are the two thick ropes of muscle that run either side of our spines so as long as you gently work that with your thumbs you're ok. There was something about giving my dog a neck massage that helped him relax and trust me, I guess. I appreciate it looks weird now that I'm typing it out but after that I could sense we were much closer. Like he would come and sit with me on the couch so that his body was touching my leg, whereas before he would sit a metre or two away. It was a subtle difference maybe but I noticed it and it really meant a lot to me. Shibes aren't genetically engineered to be super social teddy bears like certain other breeds, so when my boi chooses to come over and have me stroke him or scratch his belly it's really special. I'm really glad you managed to bond with Aoki, I can see how hard you found the distance between you in your earlier videos.
💯 they do adapt to our lifestyle, personality and way of being. It’s amazing how yours tuned in to what makes you happy! Now let me go massage aoki…brb
As the owner of two Shiba's, your practical tips were perfect for any new Shiba owner. The breed is so different from others, so routine activities plus new adventures are a must. Our second Shiba (Koji) sounded like Aoki......took a bit longer for my wife and Koji to bond. 4 years later Koji is the "little boy" she never had. My wife and Koji are inseparable, and he always comes to check on me (at the same time every Mon to FRI), especially if work stress is high. He has dialed into us, and we have dialed into him. We love our Shibas!
I'm forming a collection of your videos for when i get my shiba lol. I feel like you've got some of the best and most realistic videos about shiba ownership out there, and i cannot wait to try using some of these techniques! You are so real in your observations and your videos and i love watching them. i, for one, cannot wait to own a shiba, even with all of the challenges included in their breed.
for us a good way to bond was to explore together! sounds silly but my sheeb loves it when i pick up a stick and wait for her to come over and look at it with me, it's such a fun way of finding things together, and teaching her what is and isn't nice! we also almost never walk the same way, we try to go somewhere new at least twice a week to explore! ☺ we also have cuddle times in the morning and before bed, we'll just hang out and i read a chapter of a book out loud and she listens lol, i think that made her like my voice a lot more

Oh that’s so lovely!! I never thought of reading to Aoki. That’s very interesting. I do talk to him like a person and some ppl find it weird but 🤷🏻♀️
