    Just rewatched this after many years and noticed this video gave me the confidence to reprofile so many hooks. Cheers Lee.

    Thanks Lee.
    Great video, can you do one on your stropping/buffing wheels, what compounds you use.

    Thank you, Lee! I honestly thought the hesitation I was getting from my spoon knife on the out sweep of the blade was my technique. I checked and I have the same double shoulder as you have on your blade. Mine didn't come out as shiny as yours but it just glides through the wood now. Thank you! PS: I'm going to steal your idea of sanding sticks. What a brilliant idea!!

      So glad it's helped you achieve better results, thank you for taking the time to comment. 🙏🏼 p.s. No theft required on the sticks front, you're most welcome 😁

    High Lee, I know this video goes a little way back, but what you do with this pfeil spoon knife is absolutely awesome and brilliant,
    I have ordered, received, and returned my spoon knife and now awaiting a replacement.
    Having watched this video you have given a great insight into what is needed, will probably end up giving it a go.
    Cheers Lee, be lucky.
    All the best, Les.
    Thank you.

    Lee, thanks for the advice about the white paste, and also the real nugget, don't mix your stropping compounds, nice one mate.
    Thanks again
    Les.

    thanks mate, really like ur content.
    I also have 2 pfeil hook knifes, the 23 and 27 for right hand. But when I bought them the cutting edge wasn't that good and I had to grind them for a whole afternoon just to temove the bevels. What a bummer

      thanks very much, yeah it's a shame the curves look really useful , just basically back to front.

    Top quality video Lee, I was just researching this topic this morning! Would you recommend the same process for the Mora 164?

    • @NHHUNTNH
      @NHHUNTNH 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Meighan Workshop - By Hand and Heart i did the same with my mora and its 100% better! I definitely recommend doing it, the mora is cheap enough to replace if it gets messed up😉

    • @Lolmasaurus
      @Lolmasaurus 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      another good thing to do with the 164 is to clip off and round over the tip of the knife - it's unnecessary and it only snags on the work

    • @LeeStoffer
      @LeeStoffer  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it. Yes the 164 would probably benefit form similar treatment although there's not quite as much steel there to begin with so go careful you could make it to thin if you get carried away with the grinding. Like Julian says below, get rid of the sharp tip too, it's useless and dangerous. The 162 on the other hand, the double edge one, avoid that knife at all costs, its horrendous.

      Lee Stoffer very cool video but is why I subscribe to you but you has to be careful steel don't gets hot or its temper will suffer I'm always improved my tools too 👌🐾🐺💪💕

    High Lee, sending this via TH-cam,
    I have a question that you can probably answer with your wealth of knowledge in all things appertaining to sharpening,
    Yourself I have noticed you use the white compound, is this the best one to use? Or is it a personal choice thing ?
    Is there a any benefit from using one particular type of compound ? ie finish, and the quality of finish.
    Hope you are able to help.
    Cheers Lee.
    Les.

    • @LeeStoffer
      @LeeStoffer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Les, the white is the finest grade availible so gets the finish as long as you prepare with the finest grits on the abrasive papers first. You can use most polishing compounds and get a acceptable finish just be careful not to apply different compounds to the same strop as you'll get variable results. Hope that helps.

    Hi Lee I have a Casstrom hook knife and have the same problem as it has the same shape bevel as the one you’re working on here I shall have to get access to a belt sander to rectify it,could I ask are you running carving courses?I’m in Shropshire and have made a few spoons that are ok but would like to be shown how I can improve.👍🏻

    What size wooden dowels do you use to make your sharpening "rods"?

    • @LeeStoffer
      @LeeStoffer  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are about 12mm and fairly generic for other tools I sharpen but for maximum efficiency you can go as big as possible ensuring you can get god contact with all of the cutting edge.

    Hi Lee
    Great video. I need some clarification: you refer to an inner bevel. Is this an inner bevel similar to the one on the Nic Westermann blade on your scorp that I proudly possess? So is this knife always honed via the inner bevel?
