Ya. Before and after pictures. We should even do a full paint inspection before touching the car. Unfortunatelly, the cars are usually dirty so that makes it very problematic.
As someone with some customer experience, the rudest people are the cheapest people and vice versa. You would rather not deal with these types. The cheap people are always asking for freebies or want to speak to the manager. In this case, actually tried to sue you. Someone already said it, if you offer low prices thats the type of people youre gonna get and deal with.

He would’ve had to have sued me😅. And I would’ve counter sued for slander. I’m going to leave it with this for new detailers. Do free details in order to perfect your craft and build a brand. So when you do start charging you can command premium rates. When you advertise low ball details, you will get low hanging fruit. Cheap rates attract cheap ass customers. And customer B didn’t take your business seriously and tried you. And won.
This is bad advice. Why? Because by doing “free details” you put that mentality in your head that your work is worth less “damn near free” than it really is. Never do free details for work that you know is good. Experience my ass. Either you’re good at detailing or you’re not, and if you’re not you shouldn’t be getting involved. Period.
@@Samuelfish2k as opposed to detailers that only charge $20 or $30 dollars when they’re just starting out? Same difference. I did it for the experience and to perfect/modify my process. I agree with the free service at the start if it's a side business. That's how I got experience in lawn care and avoided the low ball goofs that try to haggle everything.
@@ad7711x Heck, it’s better to get $30-40 to at least cover yourself for some food & drink because you’re going to need it after busting your hump in the sun. How is free better? Do enough of those “free” jobs and words going to spread that you don’t expect darn near nothing for a job well done. Just watch the freeloaders line up. And when you start charging they’ll be the ones trying to make you feel guilty for your absurd prices when they got hooked up for free once upon a time. Never give away your hard work. Everyone who gets into this knows how to do the basics if not way better from day 1 touching other peoples vehicles. Also, you never really “perfect” your process because unless you’re maintaining the same exact vehicles over and over again it’s always a moving target because every vehicle is slightly different. Just like not every vehicle has the same level of dirt that needs vacuuming etc.
I believe what happened to his vehicle was caused by exposure to outdoor temperatures. I paid $5500 to have my car fully stripped and repainted. The paint was immaculate when completed. After about one month, I noticed cracking of the paint in a swirl pattern in areas of the front of the car. I called the guy who painted it. I explained what was happening and told him I keep a car cover on the car. He explained because of an ingredient in the material of some of the body parts of vehicles, increased temperature can cause the part to expand, resulting in cracking of the paint. When this occurs it usually looks like light cracking in swirl, or circular pattern and gets worse over time. I live in the Northeast so it gets hot enough here to happen. I'm sure it will happen where you are. On another occasion, I owned a 2015 Toyota Camry. I received a recall notice from Toyota indicating that the car was painted improperly and as a result swirling cracking of the paint can occur. If it does occur, they will repaint it again. When I saw this, I looked at my car and sure enough it was in 3 spots on my rear bumper. The guy you delt with either noticed it and was trying to take advantage of you being younger, or he did not know it was there because he never really looked until he paid to have his car done. When he went to admire your work, that is when he noticed it and as a result thought you did it.
I’m starting my detailing business on performance, sport, and luxury cars and I was going to make them sign a contract saying “I’m not responsible for previous damages and I will document all previous damages before I can begin the service”. Just to avoid this. I’m in the process of giving free details on cars like a CT5 Black Wing, BMW i8, 2023 BMW M2, Wide Body Hellcat Charger and so on just for pictures for my website. But, best believe that not in a millions years would I EVER do a full detail for $40.
Plot twist: After all 4 cars were done, a jealous neighbor couldn’t stand that the guy now had it so his cars were getting detailed at home while his cars looked like crap and he didn’t have the money to do anything about it. So in a jealous rage, he snuck to his driveway and scratched his neighbors hood. That explains why the customer had the audacity to try and schedule a future detail with him. Because who the hell would do that knowing what they did unless they actually didn’t do it.🤔
Good to see a young man hustle bro, keep doing your thang, I'm sure you have grown over the years and price the details competitive. Good luck on your business ❤
Lol that’s why I don’t use retailers or car washes. I know my vehicle and do it myself. Best feeling of satisfaction when you do it yourself. With that said, not knocking on you hard working honest dudes out there.
Yeh, it makes you stop and think. I am going to open a company eventually. I am holding off to get my LLC and insurance. All can be had for around $300.00 to $500.00 or so, depending on where you live. Also, I am saving for a few more chemicals and polishes, etc. Don't just start willy nilly, but go in with everything thought out as much as possible. I'm working on my brand, and precisely what I want to offer. We gotta figure out what kind of company we want to be.
@alphag5240 true, but it is the unlicensed and uninsured businesses that lose. Rather, the entrepreneurs and families behind those businesses are the ones who lose. Let them sue your company, not you. Get licensed and insured so they can't go after your homes and belongings.
@@chrisgermany5919is it $300-500 a month for insurance? What do you think if I am just trying to do this as a side gig on the weekends? Do I still need to do all that?
This is specifically why I won’t be cleaning engine bays, or even spot cleaning without water. Until I get some sort of insurance, they can do it themselves lol.
Detail beyond limits, what insurance would you recommend on this type of business? Looking forward to start one, and how much will it cost to have insurance for a mobile detailing?
