A protip for the guy seeing his vacuum technique - I have the same vacuum nozzles & those sharp ends do scratch these seating surfaces, especially leather. You can sand those sharp edges off with varying grades of sandpaper (like sanding paint) and get a much safe vacuum nozzle setup for this issue. The finer you go with the sandpaper the smoother you get that nozzle at the end.
    One detailer to another. Cheers!

I started with around $1k when I was 18 in 2005 then worked with a detailer, and launched on my own, for a few years and at 21 I hired an employee to help me. Now I detail out of my garage at 34. I don't advertise or have a site. You can hire a VA assistant. Customer's word of mouth and the clean rides, keep us busy. I hope every continues to grow and find their niche and passion at what they're good at and succeed.

@@mk.o38 I am currently using the AR630 Cold total cost was $700 I am running that with a 4500watt generator to handle the 20 Amp. Or use a garage outlet 15-20AMP only… budget one will likely be the active 2.0 under $450 longevity only time will tell.. 50-75FT hose max for it. The spray gun SGS28, the hose and the connects were purchased at MTM site. Rigid vacs are a great! But if you mount a heavy duty vacuum canister in the van look at the maid one it’s a tube and use a reel and hose. To save money get the rigid. Start slow and start affordable work the way up

When leasing a space for business, keep in mind that this is only temporary. Your goal is to own your own building when you are financially able afford it. If you are renting, the landlord can raise your rent or not renew your lease at all. This can have dire consequence to your business. If you own the building, not only will you avoid these problems but when you retire, you can sell the business together with the building; or sell the business and lease the building to the new owner. Either way, you walk away with a good retirement income.

Used to work for a body shop and dealer so I have enough experience doing the work, obviously, willing to learn more. That been said, could you possibly ask the detailer you interview how did they figure out how much to charge per job or how they price the service they offer? Also, how they go about maybe doing it out their garage as a start? How will they market that? And lastly, how would they go about asking clients to use their power and water if they don’t have the means at first to buy water tank and generator? Thanks

Subscription plans are great for a business. If he ever wants to sell the business, that is the only thing that’s worth buying. He would have created a brand and recurring source of income for the business. Otherwise, anyone can start detailing and adding “one off” customers. I like that he does the subscription plans, and with time the 20% retention will increase.

Upflip, this is such a great video as always, but I’m just a little confused on the math. He says a couple times that he makes $10-12k a month or around $150k/ year in revenue, then says that he pays employees, which he has multiple, $25/ hour, has insurance costs, overhead, etc. But the margins are 70%. If he had even one employee working full time with him, 6 days a week, that would be over $50k/ year in payroll alone, not even factoring in FICA, Social Security, etc. So what am I missing here?

Been running local businesses for over 10 years. Word of advice, do market research to properly price your services. Start off by undercutting the market, even if it's only by $10 dollars (don't go to low or you'll screw yourself and everyone else in your industry) . Have lower priced packages with services that can be done quicker than a full detail to bring in more clients. Raise your prices as you get busier and start turning down jobs due to being booked up. Hope this helped🙏
