So I was going to mention this earlier but I forgot, For the wind, look into purchasing stronger tent poles and utilize stronger rope. I learned this while growing in Colorado. Like you I have camped all over the mountains and learned from lots of mistakes. Awesome video and your going to think I am nuts but in your tent you may have loop holes on the inside, if so take 5/50 cord and run some through those loops and secure the string to the bottom of your tent with heavy objects. ( It helps pull the tent taunt from the inside)I learned this while camping in Afghanistan. It helps so much!
The fact that the tent didn't collapse is a testament to your prep (like always tightening the cables on the outside). Thanks for letting us know that the majority of the video happened after the live stream. I was wondering how it would turn out. Thanks for the video!
Thanks Mike! Yeah, it was windy and loud in here but everything faired well. I didn't get much sleep so I'll be crashing out early tonight. Temps are supposed to be between -5F and -15F at camp, I'll be loading up my stove to the max.
I could hardly keep my eyes open listening to that wind. Being there would be a different story. That tent is bad ass though but that wind was kicking it.
Times like this I wish that you had 5 or 10 acres of your own, with a small cabin on a foundation. I know high wind can rock a cabin, but at least they can be bolted down to the foundation. Maybe you can get some land around Cottonwood, Az. Have a little ranchette for wintering in. Love the show Brian. Take care. Vaughn
I love to camp in bad weather and I have learned to camp safely especially when in bear country. This is how I learned to safely camp, by watching video like this gentleman.
Hey Mark, yeah I loved that wide open terrain in the beginning. We covered 5 miles of expanse like that...pretty cool to have it all to ourselves. Thanks for tuning in, I'll have a review on the Icon Lifesaver Jerry Can Water Purifier next. This is quickly becoming my favorite water container/purifier. ~ Brian
I love camping when storms are predicted. The high plains of Texas have been great for camping. You can see the lightning building up when the storms are hours away. It’s just exciting. Safe travels.
Sierra and that small wood stove made the whole show for me. I'd of closed up and gone back into the back of the truck for more peace and quiet from the wind and the tent noise. Thanks, great video.

Welcome to my channel, Bindy! I hope you enjoy the videos of me and Sierra running around the American Southwest. Hope you have a Merry Christmas. ~ Brian & Sierra
Zip up your window flaps. The whole point of dome tents is better wind resistance. With your zips open the wind shoots in the gap and makes it into a parachute. It pushes and pulls on all your tie down points, takes tension out of your lines causes the heinous flapping that keeps you up all night. Roll your window covers down and zip your zips and it is way less likely your tent will collapse.
The tent is designed to withstand winds up to 90mph so I'm just fine. Venting the tent is necessary to avoid condensation and also to let in fresh air...45mph is no threat to the tent. I would advise against closing all the window flaps. You are essentially cutting off your quickest access to fresh oxygen. What is your stove malfunctions? What if it gets too hot in your tent? I never close the flaps and tell others the same.
@@bharaninathkomandur6330 Your are correct, they shut off access to fresh oxygen so I would advise against closing the windows entirely with the plastic window covering. In my opinion, those flaps are useless and shouldn't be included in an outfitters tent.
I love how you made the bottom floor of your tent very comfortable with blankets to stand on. So many people who pitch tents on TH-cam and do it in the winter time have a floor of cold, dirty snow. Yuck!

my brother and I camped in an alakanak one deer season in Wisconsin and real bad winds blew the smoke stack right off! The stove was pumping smoke in the tent and we had to quickly run out, use a wool sweater to handle the hot stove pieces and restock it. Since then, I use sheet metal screws in that particular chimney

Right on, have fun out there! My suggestion would be to get a set up a little bit smaller than mine so it's more easy to manage. I love my tent but it's a BEAST to set up. Also, just a tip - the ground will freeze lock any tent stakes into the ground and you won't be able to remove them. A good workout is to get hex bolts (8 inches or longer) to screw into the frozen ground with a hand drill. You can easily remove these from the frozen ground when it's time to move your camp.
No matter the time of year it is,h2o is always a HUGE PLUS. One of my pals has a stove very simular to yours, with the exception that he burns coal in his,it keeps so well like 3 days,I had no idea that coal was like that.

Greetings from D-town. Chain laws on both Eisenhower and Vail Pass last night. Crazy wind almost pushed me over twice. Icy too! Gonna get a four season tent and hit the trail. Inspiring videos bro. Thanks.
Happy New year to Brian and Sierra, love that great companion.
Dogs body language tells me that he got the leadership.
Merry Christmas to you and Sierra..take care of yourself
No matter the time of year it is,h2o is always a HUGE PLUS. One of my pals has a stove very simular to yours, with the exception that he burns coal in his,it keeps so well like 3 days,I had no idea that coal was like that.
Merry Christmas to you and the BEAUTIFUL Sierra!!
Wow, that wind is intimidating!
