I don't know the origins, but 'dicky bird' is a thing. There was a place near us called Birdworld (as you're guessing: an avian zoo) and to get us in the car to go and see it, my parents would say "Come on, we're going to look at the dicky birds."
Dicky Bird originally came from on old fable called the swan & the dicky bird.
In recent times (like the last 100 years or so) it’s been more famous for teaching a child the word “bird”. Parents will say “ooo look out of the window can you see any dicky birds”?
Idk why they say it because if a kid can’t say bird…. How is dicky bird gonna be any easier to say 😂
In more recent years - dickie bird is more famous as a nickname for former cricketer & world renowned cricket umpire; Denis “dickie” Bird. Who gained fame for not only being regarded as the best umpire in cricket history - but also being completely mental. He was always doing bizarre things.

With kids it's just a useful way to teach a word by anchoring it to something that sounds funny or some form of poetic device like alliteration or rhythmic cadence... Dickie-bird, pussycat, bumblebee, wiggly worm, Bunny rabbit... Everyone remembers the animal alphabet - Annie Apple, Bouncy Ben, Clever Cat. It also became rhyming slang for a word: "i haven't heard a word/haven't heard a dickiebird".

Stephen is 48 now. But the Ricky and Steve relationship has always been an interesting one. It’s no secret that they aren’t best friends, but they both know that and make fun of it, even back to the XFM days. They’re two different people who essentially made each other famous but never went to each other’s birthday parties.

I can totally relate to the "why go to France when..." statement.
I visited France with my family when I was just15 years old and I fell head over heels in love with the place.
I've been back several times over the years, hitch-hiking, Inter-railing and camping.
Those excursions and experiences I had during that time, literally and demonstrably influenced the direction my life took from then to today, in easily quantifiable ways.
But, I've yet to visit some of the biggest attractions my own country (Scotland) has to offer, and here I am... right on the cusp of my 58th birthday!! 😂
Oh, and don't get me started on those entirely voluntary speech impediments such as, "Mumph"! 🤬

I dont think the title is meant to imply that theyre unfriendly or had a falling out or something like that, just that theyre not "buddies" who hang out or go to eachother's house or holiday together and that stuff

They don’t hang out together outside of work so probably friendly colleagues who’ve worked together closely for a long time, rather than friends in the traditional sense.
Whereas Karl & Ricky are actually friends, but Karl & Stephen aren’t.
Ricky has 6 friends only, and Stephen is No. 7, ergo, not a friend, actually. Obviously, it's a joke, clearly, because they are the best of friends. Edit: Well, at least at the time of the interview, but there are ongoing rumors.
Are they? I’m not sure if they ever were, and certainly not any more.
They were never "best of friends". They were friends who became close work colleagues. There are many moments, all documented from radio shows, podcasts, and interviews, where Ricky discusses events, parties, gatherings, etc that Stephen was never invited to. They had their own circle of friends and simply combined to create great television. They respected each other's strengths greatly and were friends, but it was nothing more than that.
Ricky & Steve haven't been seen together since Karl Come Homes on Season 2 of An Idiot Abroad.

Kinda surprised that you're surprised at the fact that Gervais was almost 50 when Steve had just hit 35. It's kind of always been the dynamic between them (with Karl of course existing outside of the realms of linear time, so his age is irrelevant in their dynamics :P).

Ricky is about 13 years older than Steve I think. They became friends when Ricky hired him to be his assistant at a radio station. They then went on to write “The Office” together. They aren’t best friends but they’re certainly friends.

Well here they're discussing the film they wrote (Cemetery Junction) which came out in 2010. So it's not a new interview.
And the whole thing about Stephen looking like a transparent fish with not a lot down below, stems from their XFM radio conversations. :)
