I think Ricky and Stephen had separate awards in this because they quite often had separate scenes. And Ricky’s character in Extras wasn’t exactly comical by his own admission, He was often the straight character surrounded by ridiculous situations.
Not the first time. Steve would legitimately get angry on XFM when Ricky would get invited to things without him
Years ago Shaun Williamson (Barry from Eastenders) was on holiday and came into my local bar, had some beer, played some darts, ate some crisps, and went back to his hotel...for 3 hours no-one mentioned Eastenders or Extras until he was leaving and a drunk man came in looked at him...pointed ....and shouted Emmerdale Farm..then walked back outside and staggered off to another bar.🤬👍
I remember when i actually watched these awards. Couldn't get away with most if this these days.

I don't know if it is streaming anywhere, but if so, you should do Stephen's show Hello Ladies. Only 8 episodes, but it was pretty funny.

One of my favourite BBC comedy shows is Outlaws that stars Stephan Merchant and strangely Christopher Walken.
Hopefully in around 7 years when you get through your recommendations, you might give it a try, it's still current because season 3 is due out anytime soon.

It's more of a drama/comedy but Steve is great in his show, 'Outlaws'.

There are some quite entertaining award show moments dotted about here and there, diamonds in the rough Mandy, here's looking at you, kid.
Another good award one is “Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant-Stephen Hawking”. Ricky is hilarious!!
You have seen the late Keith Chegwin as he was in an episode of Extras. He was the one who had trouble playing a character so they had to change the characters name to Keith to help him.
He also later chats with Ricky and turns out to be racist and homophobic.

Stephen is so funny and witty. No wonder he was able to co-write with Ricky and come up with some genius comedies.
Also maybe knowing Stephen had won and not Peep Show, they kept him separate from Ricky. Dunno.

Thanks for Stephen Merchant. Good recommendation ... meaning I haven't seen this before! There's a lot to see (he's tall). Now I could watch Stephen pay out on Ricky all night long - but even this short clip will do very nicely. Of course he's a really funny bloke!

It's not Extras vs Peep Show it's all 4 actors up for the comedy award. This is an old clip I don't think they even do this award show anymore.
Many British comics like Ricky Gervais and Stewart Lee think award shows for comedians are stupid
It was hit with several controversies over voting rigging and was cancelled near 10 years ago. It came back last year though
Hi Mandy my suspicions about why the awards were like they were was more to do with tha Mitchell and Webb both played brilliant characters that bounced off each other so well and they just couldn't seperate them. Whereas Stephen and Ricky's characters were both so different and together weren't really the stars of the show together, in the way Ricky's Character Andy was with Maggie.
Well deserved as well given how brilliant Mitchell and Webb are too!
