Fwiw in Legends of Runeterra, they had a dedicated section for bunch of rotating game modes and it was called the “Labs” and flavoured as Heimerdinger’s inventions even though the game modes themselves were not linked to him. So it’s possibly that they just use Heimerdinger as a placeholder reference for experimenting with game modes rather than a specific reference to a specific mode.

I feel like the heimer vs singed thing was just riot explaining their design mindset in league terms. They don’t want to go TOO crazy and are looking to provide “safe bet” game modes that will resonate with a big part of their community
Nexus Siege, Blood Moon, Ascention, Hexakill, All for One, URF, AURF, Twisted Treeline, Dominion, Singularity and Poroking were all Game Modes we had before they added the new client. We had every Weekend a mode to play and give us a break from normal League. Odyssey and Stargurdians could come back with all the above and it would be a win-win for everybody.
God, all of those were such fun game modes, I wouldn't even care if none of them are permanent, JUST HAVE A PERMANENT ROTATING ARCADE MODE WITH THESE RIOT, IT'S NOT HARD HOLY MOLY. It really shouldn't be that difficult.
I'm already burnt out if swarm, but it was extremely fun for a while. My biggest gripe with it, is I just wish it was done around another event/ skinline. Anima squad is very bland. If they had the drive to do this back around the sentinels of light/ ruination event, where we would have been fighting off viego's forces, it would have been amazing.
I'm happy Riot is coming back with new game modes, although they said the goal is not making new games like TFT, i think arena does get in this spot, but would need more changes to get to TFT point. Now about Swarm, it's really good, it's smooth to play it, but there's an ending, therefore not much replayability, Arena kinda solve it with the rank, but i don't know how to do it for swarm, also once you get all upgrades there's nothing to do with the gold, no special icon, skin, tittle, etc... I don't think the difficulty should go higher, extreme does a great job between fun and challenge, and making it harder maybe skill cap some players. I played SG and Odyssey, I do miss the unique maps like the one with velkoz shooting and skarner grabbing the team while crossing the map in a safe zone, more maps like that would be fun, maybe instead of just solo maps a run through gameplay. Also, the storytelling was not interesting, maybe the run through gameplay does a better job and\or the in client storytelling Gamemode like aurora (used in arcane with vi diaries, ruination, SG2), just please a good story.
Twisted Treeline and Dominion were some of my favorites. Now i'm just an aram main. I think some of the old maps and modes were ahead of their time since the League playerbase is much different now than it was a decade ago. I think if those modes came back now, people would probably appreciate them more.
I mean, while Swarm is completable I can see plenty of future possibilities for the game mode. Not in terms of progression or anything, but rather in the themes. Right now its Anima Squad themed. There are plenty of skinlines. They could just use a new theme and use other champions and you'll get a completely new version of Swarm. Im sure we can all remember the Ruination, Star Guardian and Spirit Blossom "events" that were in-client stories a bit like visual novels. A lot of people were annoyed that they called this an event, since there wasnt any difference to gameplay. Now imagine all these having a version of Swarm? Fighting Viego and his ruined soldiers or the dark star/star nemesis with their goons. I see lots of potential to once in a while release a new theme for Swarm to keep it entertaining.

By testing new controllers they are also able to see the community reaction for the MMO, will people like to play a MMO with League's controllers or are will people like to play a WASD, camera stuck with leagues above vision camera
Something tells me that the Heimer and Singed being mentioned means it could be a tower defense gamemode like BloonTD or Rouge Tower. Heimer invents stuff and Singed makes monsters, so a perfect combination for tower defense.
Probably played 150+ hours league since may and 90% have been arenas and now swarm, love the gamemodes so much and especially when there’s something to achieve more than just the next rank. Also loved the ornn mode, it was so chill to play and i really loved the Music elements aswell, this and the soul fighter (in lobby) modes are great and i hope they do more of them. :D
Honestly I've been playing League for 11 years now, but I've never felt as addicted to a game mode as I am with Swarm. I'm close to obsessed; this is my first introduction to something rogue-liked, and it's been making me look through Steam to try to find something similar to it as it seriously created a craving for more. So I already can't wait to see what they've got in store for the next iteration of Swarm, when they'll bring it back!
I think the only way swarm would be available for the players is to have the solo campaign playable offline and the only live server is the matchmaking with friends.
Might be a Far fetched but all i can think with heimerdinger and singed is a tower defence mode where you help heimer build towers for defence while singed sends hords of his creations

Its clearly her In-Game Model, on a map i've never seen before - or at least I cannot recognize it. It somehow looks like it could be a summoners rift mirror map with crystals and snow ? maybe a teaser for an in-dev winter map ?
If Swarm will be a permanent gamemode, they should expand the game. Adding more new characters, add more thematic enemies like Ruination or the Void, etc..
As an ARAM player for mostly 3 years now, I ditched ARAM for a few days just to spam SWARM. I hope they make more of the game mode with other thematics (e.g. Ruination Event)
I get that they designed it with the ideal of it being completable but due to how they have done things, Swarm can easily be a Normal mode as is. Phase 1, Swarm: Anima Squad, 2 Swarm, Star Guardians, etc etc. They have literally been setting up their skin lines that actually make this mode and really any other mode viable as is. Really even if they didn't go that route, just adding new weapons and augments would be more than enough to freshen it up. See Vampire survivors.
The issue with game modes is that the moment they add one, people latch onto it furiously. I was going to give some feedback on Jinx and Kai'sa about their default basic attacks (about how it feels kinda forced that all impacts of their repeat weapon go on the same direction even if you point some other place) and people were asking about "how can we get more to stay more on?", completely missing the point.
Imagine a soccer game in league filled with champs that can root, stun, dash, and blink. I think a naut defender with hook would be cool or a aatrox chain pulling you away from the ball. Yasuo windfall would be op ad goalie

Been playing league since beta and could have told them at any time that game modes needed to be more common, they have massively missed here in the past and tho I love to see the direction they are going in they are so late in this that I must remain a bit disappointed in how this company has been managed. It will take time and effort to pull out of this, but I am rooting for them.

i liked swarm, it was fun. only problem after 2 weeks i stacked lots of gold no use, i finished all quests and only played when i was bored other games. i will be play with it i guess but it would be more fun when if more to achive, and more use of a gold
I started playing league when Twisted Treeline was in a game and never played it. Ones I tried to queue up for a game, waited 3 minutes and just thought it's just not worth it. I regret this decision to this day....

I got to play Swarm for the first time yesterday and it is very fun. Would love to be able to queue and find other people who are playing.
You can queue up to find others once you complete the story mode and unlock "Matchmaking Island" which puts you into a random HardMode map with others
if you beat all the maps on story difficulty it unlocks matchmaking (call matchmaking island in map select)
I would love to play with Sylas on it...
Too bad you can't match make extreme mode (to my knowledge)

It's actually been 10 years since me and my sister played Leagues, but we installed it again to play Swarm mode. It is *SOOOO* fun!

Back then with the Bilgewater Event they also implemented Event-Only Items that became actual items in the main game like Deadmans Plate
