I was literally thinking this exact thing. I'm torn because elementalist lux is the best skin in the game easily, but i hate how expensive these are going to be.
@@Deathnom Not even that much of a Lux fan and I agree there is literally no reason for this shit, hell my reasoning even goes for some epic and legendary skins from the past. Take stuff like Zombie Brand being a legendary with really smooth animations for his character, Zoe's launch (Cyber Pop Zoe)skin having unique voicelines and a running animation, and there's prolly tons of other examples
@@PrWoe Of course that sounds like an exaggeration, but let's be honest, that kinda stuff is not far off what's happening right now. League's a mobile game, got gatcha systems, lootboxes as your standard leveling system, 9 battlepasses a year and every other month there will be a "hidden" skin for 300 dollars plus they have 3 other games on their IP with the same shit. To me it seems all of that restructuring happened within like 4 years max. From "hey you can buy some cosmetics for 10 bucks if you really like a champ, we'd appreciate your support" towards that shoving their IP and brand in your face at every turn and their Client after 4 overhauls still being a broken piece. you know i dont think there will be subscription based *skins*, the system is just working too well. But after: lootboxes, battlepasses and gatcha systems I can't put it past them that the MMO will be payed-subscription based and with that the whole lore and universe expansions could have some sort of that payment method too. Ffs just look at what happened to Legends of Runeterra. I *think* I remember them saying something about subscriptions when they announced riot forge but I can't really recall. If I remember correctly that project failed? I don't know and I don't remember honestly, correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm just dropping this here. 10 000 people buy a skin that costs 250 = 2,5 million 1 million people buy a skin that costs 30 = 30 million Riot is honestly just greedy and thinks that putting a larger price tag on a skin makes them more money. I was already having a bad day, and this **** has me fuming. They aren't even hiding their greediness anymore, but they are embracing how they love to take advantage of the whales for a short term profit. Riot is already basically printing money with their almost monthly skin releases. Which bring us to the "~10% of skins will be premium" statement. This means that we could very possibly be getting a new "premium" skin every two months or so. The next thing we know is that we'll have more skins that cost 200+ than damn Lux skins. Not to mention that they have the AUDACITY to release a new "premium" skin right after they fired a person who created the Faker skin and many other people. Can't wait to see how the creator of the Jinx skin is getting fired during the next layoffs. It gives a real "We profited from your skills momenteraly so we don't need you anymore" vibes.

While I cannot say Hoyo is a flawless company either, especially with ongoing VA troubles due to their standards and other qualms I've had with them, they at least are more considerable when it comes to stuff like this, especially since they've been in this stuff basically from Day 1 - they have somewhat slowed down in some of their older titles but reasonably so because they have expanded and have more games to focus on.

Yo Hipyo! Fan of ur work. Surprising seeing u here hahaha Edit: You'd think the artist who literally made the $500 would at least secure that job position...
Riot has a reputation in the tech industry as being a pretty piss-poor and toxic place to work for; the lack of job security that you're describing applies to just about every game studio across the board. Until unstable and exploitative business practices start making companies *less* money instead of *more*, and unless there's a widespread culture change where the average person starts valuing the invisible human behind every product created, nothing is going to change.
Didn't everyone get 6-month severance, job support and health benefits even after tje job ended? Everyone switches companies every 1-2 years anyway. Sounds like great job security to me.
The thing is you get a free pull every 3 days in genshin. So instead of battle pass they need to move it to first win of the day. Either make pulls also purchasable with blue essence (not gonna happen cause too many people have the stockpiled) or add an additional thing you get from first win if the day that goes towards pulls. It will get people playing your game daily. Ranked can add even more pulls. Then have events for the rotating game modes. A certain # of games played gets you some pulls. If you’re gonna gotcha you have to have the dailies and not have it locked behind BP.
Nah if they make people use BE then they get rid of the stock pile to get them hooked and then people won't have anything later. But yeah I bet they won't make any of it free and they will get bit in the a** for it. I can't wait
Like someone mentioned in another video in the past, the issue with trying to make “skins aimed at people with a lot of money / whales” is that they end up catching people with a gambling / spending addiction. I’m fine with expensive skins, I understand the idea of aiming to make skins for that rich audience. But in the same vain we no longer get cheaper skins, and the gatcha mechanics are predatory because they get people in with the idea that “you might get lucky and get this mega expensive thing for less!” and before they know they spent way more than they normally would.
They also end up courting people who can influence them/the game with money. Are you losing games with your 500 gacha skin? That's fine, just write and angry post about how you're never buying another 500 dollar skin until you see the the balance changes you want... Watch how fast those get implemented.
But what is it other than an expensive skin for whales? Are we gonna ignore the fact that all their games are free and they keep making huge projects like TV shows, movies, and a ton of other games? Why would a skin you would never buy anyway bother you so much?
@@itsgonnabeokay9341 So because the game is free they can do anything they want? And you talk like if Arcane was free, it is not, you have to pay to watch. I would buy the skin if it was fair.

You dont get the skin when you "pay" for it, you have to play a shitty game of lottery to get what you want. Which part of it do you think is good? Oh, and dont answer with "if you dont like it, just dont buy it" because its the least intelligent way to put this problem into a question
Wow, they really take the cool stuffs from Legendary and Ultimate skins and make it whales exclusive while 95% of the players will have to satisfy themselves with lowering quality skins that not only lack any cool features they used to had but also just looking worse and worse and uninspired. Its funny how Riot can actually make a good loking, creative skins with changing forms and detailed models and animations but only for the people who are willing to pay crazy money for it. Its not like they was saying many times before that legendary skins was already so packed it couldnt handle more stuff throwed into them ? It seems it is possible but just not for us......
And remember, they're doing this *while also* doing a *second* round of mass lay-offs this year, specifically of the artists that are making them this money.

@@DreakCZEStill, the company has no need of cutting staff. They aren't doing badly by any account, there is no reasoning for this other than further profit increase.
I think its especially insanely malicous of them because its a skin they know people want. They essentially said: "For the celebration, to show you how grateful we are to you we are releasing a skin for insane amounts of Money that we all know you Fans will want to have." In no way shape or form was this ever considered part of the celebration, they saw arcane sold well, and realized that giving skins out for free like in season 1 was not making their rich CEOs any richer, so they did THIS instead. Actually disgusting human behavior
@@AmaranthEternal When they are the ones supposed to be the grateful ones. Riot is really going to shit. If they seriously thought like this every bit of hope is lost. "We are hosting a party to celebrate... Now give us insane amounts of money for something that we know you would like to have pls"
Jinx is one of my fav characters and I liked her immediately when she was released centuries ago. I truly do like her but you know what? Sorry Jinx I won´t be able to celebrate you. I`m just an anchovy not the All-Devouring Narwhal. Why I was thinking that the hoodie skin would be free? If Riot is introducing gatcha system to league, they better start introducing Archon quests and world quests as well so we can save wishes.
I think the ending is really important here. I never had an issue with League having expensive skins because they are not a necessary thing to play the game. However, it's clear they're just targeting people now. It's not a "gacha," it's just GamblingLite. If an Ultimate Skin has a fixed price of 25(ish) USD, why on earth are we suddenly getting all of these... mediocre $200+ skins? Was the $200 Jhin skin even worth the price? Was the $500 Ahri skin worth the price? While the new Jinx skin looks really amazing, it begs the question: "Is it worth it?" Edit: Additionally, why can't the fixed price be lower? I feel like $100 is more than fair. $200 is just ridiculous!
I have a friend with the Ahri Skin, and no its not worth the price at all. Id say 50$. The Jhin skin is just a CHROMA of a 20$ skin. And this Exalted Skin for Jinx is probably again just a VA update of Jinx with no real cool aspects to it. Basically a Base Skin with Arcane Quotes. 250$ Yeah no.
Omg I can't tell you how much I am agree with you at 14:55 . I am a die hard Jinx fan and she is my main for 5 years and I am collecting all of her skins (even those I hate like battle cat and coffee cute) but I just do that cause I love her character. And now with introducing something like this... Man wtf is this?? This is not for Jinx fans. It is for rich kids that are Jinx fans... 250$ is so much for normal people just for a cometic. And the problem is I could just say I don't care if it was a battle cat skin, but as somebody who loves Arcane version of the Jinx and always plays with her arcane skin it is so hard for me... I hope they could at least add a normal version like what they did with Ahri...
With Australia's new laws i wonder how the gacha system is meant to work since they're cracking down on online gambling, and this would count as online gambling
It doesn't count as gambling if you are guaranteed a reward, you also don't win money you can funnel back into it. Not everything with a chance is considered gambling. Dumasses be calling crit builds a gambling addiction at some point.
I was getting back into League and was considering playing again, but not anymore! Adding gacha is the deal breaker. Even when people argue against it with "it's only a cosmetic, it's not for you' it doesn't matter", it CLEARLY shows what the company priorities lie: making money by ANY means neccesary, even at the expense of all the players.
expense? comsmetics dont affect you playing the game lol. if you want to play games for pixels then you probably have a FOMO issue that shoudl be checked by a professional
@@cpenner7086 the professional costs just as much as the skin ☝its not the players fault for having FOMO, because most people have that. its the companies fault for including predatory tactics. i was hoping the ahri skin would at least not be FOMO or be dropped in price with the backlash and boycotting but nothing happened. its depressing that compared to back in the day, Riot wont even do the most basic humane shit
@@cpenner7086 It's at the expense of the players, because gacha mechanics are designed to take advantage of people with tendencies towards gambling addiction.
The problem with gacha skin on Riot's case is it is only obtainable by buying them using real money. Or even if Necrit's suggestion by Battle Pass only. Compared with traditional gacha games, we can do dailies, log-ins, events, etc etc. and then we can pull once in a blue moon. For Riot to integrate this on their game, they should have daily and/or weekly mission that give the currency. Or they could just make the currency randomly drop on your games. Heck, they could make it similar to gacha games wherein you can get a lot of this currency on new accounts and can make you "re-roll" your account to get the skin you want. They should make it like once or twice a year, we can get guarantee or at least half of the guarantee amount to get the skin we want. It would make people get engage more on the game since it would be grindy as heck too. Gacha games work because f2p players can still somewhat play and enjoy the game as well as there's a chance to get what they want. But with this on Riot's case, if you are f2p (free to play), you will NEVER get what you want.
You want to give it to die-hard fans? Make it unlock at one million mastery points. You want to take away from die-hard fans? Make it a one in a million chance. I'm not surprised we don't see Beck anymore. After what's happened to this game, I'd not want to show my face anymore either.
"We need your billions spent on skins to make new modes." *Also doesn't make new modes other than passion projects developed in a basement by 1 guy in his free time* Yea, sure, Rito.
5:00 It´s most likely to be an issue with the software riot uses to record skin spotlights and also take screenshots like this. Either that or an employee just missmanaged the settings for shadows that are further away from the camera so really it could be the finished product ^^
Yeah, I agree with what you said at the end. I love Mihoyo games. I play them a lot and enjoy the stories and art created from and for the games. HSR (Honkai: Star Rail) is one of my favorite games in general, and I even remember joking with my brother that one way Riot could fix the "Money problem" league esports is currently facing is to make a proper gacha system. So, I instantly knew what they based their banner system on when u said 80 pulls. The only issue I initially have is that this isn't the full Gacha game formula at the end of the day. They would need two things: 1.) Add a FREE farmable material similar to skin essence that allows the player to pull a single time or convert enough into a Spark (10-pull item). 2.) Provide opportunities to receive free Sparks (10-pull items) 3.) Less time investment, High-Quality mini/side story events (An opinion that I think will personally retain the attention of Gacha players, or just legit create a gacha game mode). But doing this will (ironically) require Riot to be willing to take a gamble and essentially make a gacha game or implement a proper gacha game monetization formula because, at the end of the day, Riot's looking at Mihoyo and every other gacha game that gets the bag and wants that consistent flow of money on character release. While I hope they would add more ways to experience the world of Runeterra without committing 30+ minutes competing with other people, this is about the skins, not the gameplay loop. As a Gacha game enjoyer, they need to implement the first two points for it to feel like a well-built grind for skins.
This Jinx skin costs almost a minimum wage here in Brazil, which is currently the country that accesses these damn bets the most, and the addiction to betting and gambling has only increased among young adults to the point of becoming a public health problem. Riot putting this skin behind a gacha system and with this price is a level of son of a bitch that makes me angry. There is no way to defend this or relativize it by saying "oh, it's for the whales", no, the people who are going to buy this in Brazil are poor people in debt and Riot knows this, they know that Brazilians are sick and will pay whatever it takes to have a minimum of happiness and they want to exploit this to the maximum. I have completely lost the minimum respect I had for this company.
I left MLBB because of how I hated their gacha-like systems and expensive skins for mediocre quality. But now looking at where Riot is headed and what they have done these past few years, they made MLBB look more decent and fair than whatever Riot's doing now hahahaha.
@@GGGONEXT67 we know it doesn't really affect gameplay, its just that it's shitty for those that want it but is a bit too pricey and a bit shady that they'll milk the whales (gonna bet with spending problems) with it. It's kind of a slap in the face that they marketed it as a celebration "for the diehard Jinx fans" when they it's really just for those with enough money to burn which is very miniscule.
@@GGGONEXT67 "but it's just a skin, you don't need it to play", same as you don't need to eat expensive steaks to not die of starvation, you don't need to go to any fastfood, you don't need any expensive clothes, you don't need drink alcohol, you don't need have a car outside a job you need a car for, you don't need to drink anything else but water, you don't need eat chrisps/chips, sweets, nuts, you don't need play games, watching movies or TV series, you don't need watch sports, stand ups or any other comedy shows. You literally don't need anything but cheapest bearable food and drink to survive, something to wear and it doesn't matter how it looks or how expensive it is. You can go to work, go back home, eat and go to sleep and repeat it every day, every week, every month and every year untill you die. But why people are doing all those things? AS A TREAT FOR THEMSELVES! And it really doesn't matter if it's expensive food, party with expensive alcohol, marathon with your favourite movie and snacks, trip to watch stand up, trip to watch a team you cheer for, buying clothes you think looks good, buying a game you wanted to play, buying a car for your own convenience but also the one that you dreamed about or even a goddamn skin in a free to play game. It's all the same thing. And as we know, people became homeless or had to declare bankcrupcy because of all those treats that are very unneccessary for them. Same goes for people wanting to buy a skin, they won't be able to stop themselves regardless of their financial situation and all Riot is doing recently, is exploiting that fact. Explaining it as "we are targeting whales" is bullshit in purest form. Sure, whales will buy it but also those who won't be able to stop themselves.
This is why people still barking on the "its not obligatory, you don't NEED to buy it" are simply either being naive or shilling hard for Riot. Imagine saying its okay for Riot to make an ASU paid...
They did I with MF, idk why tf Riot made it so the new "canonical" version of MF was locked on a skin, like they could've made her new look the base model and her old appearance a "Traditional" skin like Sej's or Trundle's Traditional skins.
And that, which you were mentioning at the end, is really the biggest difference between gachas and this "gacha" system. In gacha games, you can actually get, even if in a more slower manner, limited currency for pulls. There so much you could do with this idea. You can award some of these ancient sparks in missions, or give them like every 20 lvls or smth, or make them drop in chests with an extremely low rate. Just give people who dont spend money on the game a chance to actually get something they really want even if it takes a good time for it. And im not even saying that has to be with the same frequency a f2p player gets a character at end-game in a gacha, but at least give a chance even if it takes longer.
In gacha games you literally need the system to progress through the game? It would be the same if you bought in-game items via real currency gacha, but this isn't even close. Owning the skin doesn't help you what-so-ever.
@@DreakCZE Nope. Most of the major gacha games now a days allow you to clear all of its content as f2p. Take Genshin for example the game's most difficult content can be cleared with 4 star only units, the 5 star limited characters do make things easier but they are optional, heck some have even completed the hardest content of the game with Amber who's considered as the worst unit in game who you get for free at the start of the games tutorial chapter. All the story contents are available and are not lock behind a pay wall along with every major update. Some even joke that the game is pay to lose because you deprive yourself of any challenge if you get the more meta units. And many gacha had followed in Genshin's foot steps because of its success. So no, most popular gachas do not require you to engage with its gacha system to progress the game. People just do because pulling gives them dopamine.
The slot machine ctrl+5 mechanic in-game seems like such a distraction to gameplay. "Oh, you wanted help with scuttle prio? Ah sorry mate, wasn't looking. It's gonna take some time to pull the skin combo I want to play."
Co founders, co creators etc commonly are a pair of "behind the scenes guy" and "public facing guy" it's quite common. It has with comfort speaking, wish to be a known figure etc etc
15:05 this is so true, through the 11 years of me playing this game I have bought all the jinx skins, chromas, emotes, icons, borders and even ward skins with somewhat of her theme, the Valorant gun too, but I refuse to spend £200 on a skin all at once, there is no way this is justifiable, maybe this way I just stop buying anything else and be released of this curse of wanting to own all the jinx related content
This actually sounds really cool, this could convince those players with a lot of mastery into it, whales will still collect them anyway. It's great so it won't happen.
That's a really cool idea. In fact, they should use this concept for their entire rewards repository, as a means of rewarding additional loot to players, and using champion mastery or /played as outlier markers on that bonus loot. It's always a great feeling to "high-roll" on something that you actually want. Think about it, if you play only a couple champs, you are clearly demonstrating to the game how much you like those champs, so more opportunities to be able to collect their entire skin-line would be something most people would appreciate. A customer that can achieve their goals is a happy customer, and will be a loyal customer for years to come. I hope gacha doesn't become the standard, and that there is more generosity giving back to the players as the years go on. ArenaNet's Guild Wars 2 has taught us, if you are fair and generous to your players with a fair monetization, the players will support your brand and be loyal to you for years to come.
Agree, or even make a series of skins locked behind Champion Mastery where for e.g. after 500k (or 1mln dunno) mastery would make you eligible to even purchase at first or unlock it for free. And after that the skin would "upgrade" after reaching certain point in mastery like 2mln That woukd be cool
In all fairness, Whales will probably gonna be mad at this new gacha system considering they most likely already own all the emotes and icons, so every common drop they get is either wasted or converted into Orange Essence which is useless to them. I wonder how they're gonna tackle that.

80% of Riot's resources go into skins and new ways to manipulate players into throwing money at them, but at the same time Riot Forge got fkin deleted and LoR lost almost all support, all it got left is Path of Champions. All because people just ignore how cosmetics are spreading like cancer on today's gaming. They are "optionable", but they are also the main development focus of most of current games.
It's also just predatory business practices with very little oversight or regulation. You aren't selling anything with this model, you are giving a chance to earn something that players do not own. Riot is becoming more and more predatory, long gone are the days they made skins to support their game and put a little thought into them (even when the quality was just a chroma), but they have sunk so far they are as bad as Blizzard/Activision.
@@BowserisOK Which is exactly the problem with current state of gaming. Riot isn't the only one engaging in predatory tactics and focusing most of their resources on useless cosmetics. This is a standard now, which is why modern gaming is going to shit.

@@sticksstickerson If like only riot was continually getting shittier, I could see this being more valid, but like every company are becoming more and more shit, and like riot has one foot in the gacha door for years, and if you have seen any other gacha its not that surprising that they are getting worse in that manner, its just a heavily deregulated economic space, that every company is trying to abuse. Plus, in the US its literally illegal to NOT make yourself more "profitable" to your share holders, Tldr: yeah tencent has more shareholds but literally this is just the system doing its job, tencent invests cause league is extremely big in china, but even if it werent, riot would still be doing this shit. People just want something easy to blame that "everyone hates" and that is always china and or tencent.
@@Angel-eu7pt I mean you can say "every company" is being worse but look at indie and smaller passionate studios, its not everywhere - it's mainly big ones that do this, of course you also have cases like From Soft where they do it well too but for me I'd rather blame both Riot and Tencent rather than one or the other, they're both at fault here although I can see Tencent being more of the influence for even if that's hopeful thinking.
@@sticksstickerson @sticksstickerson obviously i meant the big ones, im playing plenty of indie stuff too (partly cause triple A titles are getting so ridiculously unoptimized that i cant play them much), and personally yeah its ls both, but I think letting other people blame tencent more than riot is stupid, riot as an "indie" has been dead for years, as any multi million dollar company, beholden to shareholders, trying to squeeze dollars out of the player is just what its meant to do, and its been years coming as they kept ramping up "skin quality" and asking more for it, what ever people are higher up in the corporate ladder are at fault fully, and plenty of other games that dont have tencent as share holders, are doing the same, like i said, just the place that this FOMO exploiting and whale hunting area of gaming will do until more regulations come into play.
The gachas I play (Genshin, R1999, and AFK Journey) look like charity compared to this system. I can consistently get the characters I want, I can get the monthly sub that costs a coffee a month and be happy. Here, they can of course put sparks in the free/paid battle pass but you think this will come for free? No it wouldn't. They will once again reduce the rewards you get from the pass. One less orb, one less emote, one less icon. But hey! We are giving 1 spark! And in 10 years you might get the skin you want! And sure, just a cosmetic, a cosmetic that historically doesn't cost this much, and they are bumping the prize as if Jinx herself is going to come in your home and get you to Masters. Imagine Elemental Lux releasing today - BOOM! 500$ gacha. Spirit Guard Udyr? Boom 420$ gacha. Necrit said it. Skins that used to be more expensive but a good price for the quality will never again be. Everything will be gacha now. It happened to TFT, it happened to Wild Rift, it will happen here too.
Right?? Like I play hsr, and 1 fate can cost around $1-3 depending on the package you buy. With the same 80 pity system leagues implementing. 400rp per fate is actually insane?? Especially since hsr gives so many free rewards, too. And yk damn well riots not going to give many free pulls, if any at all.

These games are completely unapproachable for a new player, and will force out most players that are wanting to play a fun game. I have even tried to have fun in ARAM, and it's getting like that there too, with 1 sided stomps happening nearly every game.

Riot got apart from Tencent in the west long time ago. Tencent doesn't own Riot rn, and just acts on China things, that's why they have their own servers and everything there is managed by Tencent. But it does nothing to do with the west. They took their own choices to damage us. Because even in Asia there's restrictions with Gacha systems and stuff. So the things doesn't work the same there.
with how little they do with ultimate skins, why even make a new tier, the last 2 ultimate skins have been a major disapointment, the only good one being Sona and Lux...
Udyr's lost all of it Ultimate status right after the ASU becoming just an overpriced legendary Samira's basically an overpiced legendary. True Damage Ekko has better variety in terms of animations and it's a legendary Ezreal is a 50/50, doesn't change much in terms of VFX but adds 3 forms, so kind of an ultimate even after the ASU Seraphine is a massive laugh, you just get some quests and what it sums up to is just a skin bundle, no special interactions in-game so basically 3 epic skins Miss Fortune is an overpriced legendary, sure it has selectable weapon which modify the VFX and change her color, but Battle Queen Katarina has the same mechanic and she's a Legendary so yeah, the only true ultimates are Elementalist Lux and DJ Sona
@Shadrok to Udyrs credit, it was an ultimate skin for a very long time. So yes it lost it's value NOW, but before it atleast had something going for it. Unlike modern new releases
They're never making another Ultimate again, and if they will, it will be the same quality as Samira's at most. If Elementalist Lux was released today, it would cost AT LEAST 500 bucks. Their whole thing now is deliver less value for a higher price.
17:30 TFT literally has the implementation after their rework to their egg system. I imagine the success from TFT and its Mythic variants and "pull-system" has influenced this decision a fair amount. @@delluminatis Absolutely not, 1% buying every single expensive skin released that month would still not bring as much profit as 50% buying one basic skin that month.
Can we stop normalising selling game cosmetics, that after all are RGB pixels, for the price of days of work? I get it, it's optional, but battening off of people's love for characters, using many designed for that psychological systems is more than worth being condemned. And I hate it when others say 'at least it will fund other projects', making those skins, developing in game systems, promotion etc. will eat a massive amount of those earnings, and we've had great league projects long before overpriced cosmetics - Arcane s1, multiple riot forge games, gorgeous cinematics, even TFT was supposed to be a fun experimental game mode... Call me mad but I just hate those strategies and that people end up normalising and supporting them with their wallets despite backlashing them too. Man.
You hate it when someone says they'll fund other projects. Yeah, that's neat. But why are you even worrying about the psychology of people when you're playing horror video games like your pfp? The game is free, so you can still play like others who bought skins. It doesn't matter. You can't play at a casino for free, you need to spend. Honestly, I hate live service games where I have to pay monthly just to play. Skins are for hardcore fans, nothing more. I haven't spent a dime on skins. I just want to play the game. This should be an easy topic, but people keep making it complicated.
@@JackingBastos I'm not saying I hate it that money goes into new projects, rather that it's a very awful way of earning money and it feels like casual players have to miss out on content in order for the game to keep going (and it surely would without it) and you don't have to be a hardcore fan to buy a skin. Also wtf is this reference to my pfp? Yeah, I set it up about a decade ago when I was a kid and didn't bother to change it, what's the point?
Hmmmm but there is no issue in “players missing content”. It’s optional cosmetics. I think these arguments get tainted by people focusing on the wrong things. Having luxury cosmetics isn’t much of a deal. Many people would tell you that selling cosmetics at $10 or $20 is already a problem. Why does it matter if someone spends $200 in one skin or ten? The main problem is the gambling mechanics that lure and fool people, actively affecting their ability to make informed and responsible financial decisions. Other than that it makes sense to aim for more expensive cosmetics and whatnot, if we’re being analytical. After 15 years, it is to expect the game acquires fewer players than before, yet it has more loyal players who have spent more time in the game. Furthermore someone who was 20 in 2010 will now soon be 35, with a different spending power. We know people already spend $200 in non-essential stuff, be it a fancy dinner, a brand accessory, a collector’s edition… it’s valid if someone wants to spend it in 10 legendary skins or in 1 of these. I myself wouldn’t; but I cannot justify why this is inherently wrong and legendary skins at $20 are perfectly fine. Luxury content is for the most part OK (well, if not ok, at least, not inherently worse than any other non-essential cosmetics). Focus your anger at them mixing this with gambling mechanics in a clear attempt to widen the scope of who will spend money to get this skin.
@@sim4825 Bro the game is free to play. It's not an awful way to make money. It's actually a great way for them to make money because this is exactly how they sustain themselves for over a decade. Cosmetics do not affect how you play the game whatsoever.
I think it's likely they will just copy the already existing gacha mechanic from TFT, since the systems are the same. There, free chances are obtainable the same way you describe it at the end of your video. You can get them in the battle pass and sometimes in events and then collect them over the seasons.
We've predicted this for years already. That the moment that Riot succeeds with any kind money-sucking system, we knew that they would have a reason to scale back on quality and features and throw them into a more expensive tier. Tech and features of Ultimates slowly got scaled down while retaining the price, now they're given to new pricier skin tiers since they know that people would do and pay everything to get those features.
People spend insane amount of money in cheap mobile games is was clear that other F2P games will follow that model because they see how much a inferior product can do with that
This has similar vibes to when they introduced the 4800 BE champ tier. They didn't do it to make more champs 4.8k instead of 6.3k... they did it to make more 3.15k champs 4.8k. Price and grind creep all the time.
"We need money for the one gamemode we did once after 10 years of 0 content" "We had to pay SWARM using the amassed billions of money we got from skins" So how did they finance Burning Tide with new modes and a new ARAM map? How did they finance the Summoners Rift skins for Arcade? The events for odyssey and Star Guardian? They are blatant liars.
I always said "It's just a cosmetic" now it's hitting my main and it's time to suck up my words. At least it's in a gacha with a potty that'll carry over and I could get some pulls for free?
Gacha is already a system they implement in wildrift and they have never given out free currency. It'd probably be the same since it seems they used wildrift as a sort of test for these system.
Sure bro. They 100% gonna give u contect for free after they locked it under gambling system paywall. For free u gonna get 10 me and prfile icon once a year.
the reason the gacha system in other games work since people got the chance to earn the wishes ingame so there are many ways to earn it in this game it just outright have to buy it which is already kinda weird
assuming those green fog thingies in the ARAM map are their version of grass... looks like we will finally be getting grass tiles in the base area! which is HUGE for certain champs
Gacha games can get away with selling characters for 300 dollars because you can earn the ability to get the characters without spending 300 dollars and its quite often to get the banner characters without spending much.
I used to be a whale of sorts in LoL. With well over 1,000 skins, at one point I could not reroll because the reroll pool was empty. But, my wallet cannot keep up with the ever-increasing rollouts of skins, not to mention all the chromas. And these ridiculous $200-$300 skins.. like.. yeah, nah. So, ironically, in their attempt to squeeze even more money out of me, they lost my business pretty much entirely. Hey riot.. if you sold the Jinx skin at $100 with no gacha nonsense, you'd make quite a bit more money, just sayin.
I have a very similar story. Im beyond tired of being so tightly squeezed and manipulated at every opportunity. Like u said, chromas, mythic, bla and bla... i actually now feel regret. I never felt that way before, but Riot can't help but ask you to bend and cough
I totally agree on what you said, buuuuut considering 3 people like you only equivolates to 1 whale willing to do the gacha, I feel asthough they're still gonna make a profit higher than if the skins was only 100$
here's the thing: for every 3 people like you that they lose, they get x5 more from a mega-whales If it didn't work, they wouldn't have done it in the first place, sadly...
Well, that the point. U, and peopl like u, could say as much as u want they u' tired of being milked, but as long as u guys keep throw money into dev they gonna keep doing it. Why wont they? Its literely money from the air. Hire avarage model designer for avarge market salary and sell the result of his mothly work for x1000 its value over global playerbase
Make it so that the battle passes are not too expensive, like event passes being 1650RP and the Hall of Legends Pass being 1950 (which had a perfect length, loot ladder and great price), and give at least a couple Ancient Sparks for free for the non-buyer and like a 10-15 for the pass owner. The progress carries over so this alone can make people buy most if not all the passes and even out the price of the skin for the progress and most people would probably be happy about the system.
Star Rail character banner have 90 hard pity too. But because of soft pity, getting it by 80 has around 90% chance and at 83 it's almost guaranteed (unless you are Bennett). The 80 pity are from weapon banners.
Having a pity that is reachable is what even engages gacha. Nobody would play a gacha where they have to settle with never getting a 5* you just dont even start it. If they make at least 3 of these skins a year then should AT LEAST give 10 pulls per release. That is still 2.5 damn years of active playing to get 1 of these skins. Besides... whenever a new skin comes out it might also have less % to be what you get because the other "Exalted" Skins dillute the chances...
Well about that....about 9 years ago this WASNT common, but then multiple people spent several thousands of dollar trying to get a monkey girl in a gacha game and this little game in question called granblue fantasy had to implement the system of accumulating 300 cerulean SPARKS during a banner to get a character guaranteed because the japanese goverment was breathing down their neck about it. Yes ,this is where the term spark even comes from in the first place, but cygames IS also one of the very few gacha companies that ended up actively funneling that money into non gacha game development down the line.
as someone that currently owns every obtainable skin, excluding old unavailable ones like the pax skins and victorious skins and a few of the mythic variant ones, a gacha system is the tipping point for me i was fine with the mythic variant skins being locked behind capsules, because i could at least use the skin shards i got from the capsules to reroll newly released skins so if i actually went for one of those ridiculously expensive chromas i at least had somewhat of a use for the leftovers from opening the capsules i have no reason to get more mythic essence, i own every skin from that shop anyways, the only things i bought were chromas and emotes i hate gacha systems with a passion and this has made it very easy for me to decide on not spending any more money on league, i'm fine with the skins i have now shame on you riot, shame on you

While the new Jinx skin looks really amazing, it begs the question: "Is it worth it?"
Edit: Additionally, why can't the fixed price be lower? I feel like $100 is more than fair. $200 is just ridiculous!
I have a friend with the Ahri Skin, and no its not worth the price at all. Id say 50$. The Jhin skin is just a CHROMA of a 20$ skin. And this Exalted Skin for Jinx is probably again just a VA update of Jinx with no real cool aspects to it. Basically a Base Skin with Arcane Quotes. 250$ Yeah no.

They would need two things:
1.) Add a FREE farmable material similar to skin essence that allows the player to pull a single time or convert enough into a Spark (10-pull item).
2.) Provide opportunities to receive free Sparks (10-pull items)
3.) Less time investment, High-Quality mini/side story events (An opinion that I think will personally retain the attention of Gacha players, or just legit create a gacha game mode).

@DreakCZE no u dont. It can help but its not a necessity.

And after that the skin would "upgrade" after reaching certain point in mastery like 2mln
That woukd be cool

It happened to TFT, it happened to Wild Rift, it will happen here too.
imagine if the extra forms/swatches would be like constellations in genshin. to get each elemental lux form you need another copy lol
Bro in those games the GACHA gives you an UNFAIR advantage and it becomes literally P2W(the one who spends more wins more),
how tf a skin that gives you 0 advantage in game and is just cosmetics is worse than that?
@@ozymandias8523I don't know about the other two but I'll speak for Genshin:
Because the game is both not competitive and not that hard. It's fine having players with different advantages because for the main gameplay (story and exploration) you could just be using the base characters and still succeed.

I think you're right. League is as unapproachable as Arenas in World of Warcraft. These games are completely unapproachable for a new player, and will force out most players that are wanting to play a fun game. I have even tried to have fun in ARAM, and it's getting like that there too, with 1 sided stomps happening nearly every game.
they could make a system that when you reach a certain amount of mastery on a chamion you could get skin to, then the diehard fans can get it to

So the things doesn't work the same there.
with how little they do with ultimate skins, why even make a new tier, the last 2 ultimate skins have been a major disapointment, the only good one being Sona and Lux...
come on, Udyr is fucking sick too!
Udyr's lost all of it Ultimate status right after the ASU becoming just an overpriced legendary
Samira's basically an overpiced legendary. True Damage Ekko has better variety in terms of animations and it's a legendary
Ezreal is a 50/50, doesn't change much in terms of VFX but adds 3 forms, so kind of an ultimate even after the ASU
Seraphine is a massive laugh, you just get some quests and what it sums up to is just a skin bundle, no special interactions in-game so basically 3 epic skins
Miss Fortune is an overpriced legendary, sure it has selectable weapon which modify the VFX and change her color, but Battle Queen Katarina has the same mechanic and she's a Legendary
so yeah, the only true ultimates are Elementalist Lux and DJ Sona
@Shadrok to Udyrs credit, it was an ultimate skin for a very long time. So yes it lost it's value NOW, but before it atleast had something going for it. Unlike modern new releases
They're never making another Ultimate again, and if they will, it will be the same quality as Samira's at most. If Elementalist Lux was released today, it would cost AT LEAST 500 bucks. Their whole thing now is deliver less value for a higher price.

i'm convinced they don't have an aram team normally, as the balancing alone in aram tends to be 6 to 12 months behind the balancing in summoner's rift, let alone not having visual iterations on aram since the bilgewater event ended. changes in summoners rift could completely change the itemization for a character, making or breaking playstyles, but the aram modifiers won't move for Entire Splits after such changes go live. maybe they're just cooking, who knows. i just hope for their sake its taking a golden brown hue, not burning to a crisp.

If it’s the price of a days work then it’s not for you. It’s for rich people to subsidize the game for the rest of us
I think it's likely they will just copy the already existing gacha mechanic from TFT, since the systems are the same. There, free chances are obtainable the same way you describe it at the end of your video. You can get them in the battle pass and sometimes in events and then collect them over the seasons.
Ah the classic Magic the gathering approach, "this product is not for you"
We've predicted this for years already.
We're going to start putting new champions in this system as well
"We need money for the one gamemode we did once after 10 years of 0 content"
"We had to pay SWARM using the amassed billions of money we got from skins"
So how did they finance Burning Tide with new modes and a new ARAM map? How did they finance the Summoners Rift skins for Arcade? The events for odyssey and Star Guardian?
They are blatant liars.
Was so happy being a Jinx main, having all skins and such

I always said "It's just a cosmetic" now it's hitting my main and it's time to suck up my words. At least it's in a gacha with a potty that'll carry over and I could get some pulls for free?
Gacha is already a system they implement in wildrift and they have never given out free currency. It'd probably be the same since it seems they used wildrift as a sort of test for these system.

the reason the gacha system in other games work since people got the chance to earn the wishes ingame so there are many ways to earn it in this game it just outright have to buy it which is already kinda weird
assuming those green fog thingies in the ARAM map are their version of grass... looks like we will finally be getting grass tiles in the base area! which is HUGE for certain champs
Gacha games can get away with selling characters for 300 dollars because you can earn the ability to get the characters without spending 300 dollars and its quite often to get the banner characters without spending much.
First of all, there's no way I'm giving an apology to that emergency ration.
Secondly, it's crazy that people have this much money to spend on nothing
I used to be a whale of sorts in LoL. With well over 1,000 skins, at one point I could not reroll because the reroll pool was empty. But, my wallet cannot keep up with the ever-increasing rollouts of skins, not to mention all the chromas. And these ridiculous $200-$300 skins.. like.. yeah, nah. So, ironically, in their attempt to squeeze even more money out of me, they lost my business pretty much entirely. Hey riot.. if you sold the Jinx skin at $100 with no gacha nonsense, you'd make quite a bit more money, just sayin.

Star Rail is 90 and 80. 90 for character 80 for light cone
Bout to lose my 50/50 on league too
Star Rail character banner have 90 hard pity too. But because of soft pity, getting it by 80 has around 90% chance and at 83 it's almost guaranteed (unless you are Bennett). The 80 pity are from weapon banners.
I was wondering where he got that info from. Their pity numbers are basically the same.
People played FGO and for the longest time that game didn't have pity. Now it does at 300 pulls and I'm not sure it carries over.
Yes ,this is where the term spark even comes from in the first place, but cygames IS also one of the very few gacha companies that ended up actively funneling that money into non gacha game development down the line.
as someone that currently owns every obtainable skin, excluding old unavailable ones like the pax skins and victorious skins and a few of the mythic variant ones, a gacha system is the tipping point for me
i was fine with the mythic variant skins being locked behind capsules, because i could at least use the skin shards i got from the capsules to reroll newly released skins so if i actually went for one of those ridiculously expensive chromas i at least had somewhat of a use for the leftovers from opening the capsules
i have no reason to get more mythic essence, i own every skin from that shop anyways, the only things i bought were chromas and emotes
i hate gacha systems with a passion and this has made it very easy for me to decide on not spending any more money on league, i'm fine with the skins i have now
