    I just turned in my 2019 GT yesterday. Wonderful vehicle when you have a wife, a son, and two large dogs (newfoundlands). The 5 of us took the GT on several road trips and it performed like a champ. Consistent 24.5 mpg on the freeway and the V6 is a fantastic engine that's peppier than you might expect.
    However, I brought home an RT and after two days of driving it, I can confidently say that the extra money is worth it :)

    • @mrsasshole
      @mrsasshole 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Bagel_Biscuit Just got back from a 3000 mile round-trip road trip about two weeks ago. With 3 adults and two large dogs (Newfoundlands) in the RT, got 21 MPG.
      Where the HEMI kills you is the city driving. I get around 12mpg in city driving. The pentastar v6 in the GT gets spectacular city MPG so this is a very big delta.
      Still wouldn't go back though, the RT is just too much fun and thankfully, I don't do a lot of city driving.

      I have a 2020 RT, and SRT for myself and wife. My daughter has a 2019 GT and she loves it. My wife drives the SRT a few miles to work everyday. I drive the RT to work 40 miles everyday. When we take road trips with 3 daughters we take the SRT. The reason is because the SRT is fun for Dad on long trips. If you can afford the RT it's worth it by a mile. Gas mileage is the same as my Dad's 2020 explorer ST based on how we drive. The explorer actually gets 1 mpg less than my SRT driving it normal. When you drive it hard for a day of normal chores it drops to 11 mpg which is worse than all of them. If your going for SRT remember gas is premium only so it cost about 40 more weekly if you drive like a car enthusiast. I can tell I have been a Ford fan until I hit 40. The reason was the engine defect in 2014 explorer eco boost. Warrant ran out and extended as well, 5 months and 8k miles (68k) over the 60k warranty I found 9ut the timing chains need replaced and the cams need a new part to keep more oil in the top end at start up to avoid the start up rattle. This all known by Ford 3xplorer forums and it's why I switched to a naturally aspirated V8 that's built like a tank. I'm happy to answer answer questions.

      Last November I looked at the gt and the R/T I was so tempted to go with the r/t but I live in Alberta Canada we’re it snows 7 months of the year I figured the r/t would be to much power for these icy roads so I went with the v6 gt less power but still reliable. If it wasn’t for winter I would’ve went with the rt lol. How much km you get with a full tank??

    • @mrsasshole
      @mrsasshole ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Stunna_ECN Hey Stunna! You can't go wrong with the V6/Pentastar. With my GT on road trips, I got almost 26 mpg or 42 km per gallon. I rarely let things drop below a quarter of a tank but my range was incredible. It's a 24.6 gallon tank so figure a range on the freeway of over 1000KM!
      With the RT, I get about 23 mpg or 37 km per gallon so still good mileage. Where the RT falls down is city mileage. Where my GT got about 21 mpg / 34 km pg in the city, my RT gets about 12 mpg / 19 km per gallon :(

The GT+ with the better hood, blacktop package and premium package is only 2k or so from the same car in the RT I believe. With that in mind it’s even more of a no brainer for the RT. Also, you’re really good at these reviews. You transition well, you don’t say um, and you’re very well informed. Good stuff man. Thanks again.

    I bought the GT for the more reliable motor. The RT Tow-N-Go package for 2021 is the same as the SRT. The gear ratio was changed to improve the rating to 8700#'s. I am not worried about towing. Since we have a 6.7L Cummins in our Ram 2500 Crewcab 4wd. But the GT's 6200# tow rating. Can tow a lot of bass or ski boats.

    Great comparison! It's also worth noting that the HEMI requires minimum 89 octane, whereas the pentastar is fine with 87, which also increases the cost of fuel (roughly by 15 cents / litre in Canada).
    It’s my 3rd Durango, the first was a 2011 Citadel, second a 2017 Special Service (5.7L) and now I got a 2022 R/T.
    The dealer swore that the issue with water leak in the racetrack taillight has been fixed - time will tell :)
    Otherwise, I love these trucks and feel confident when comes to their quality - I’m tired of people who don’t own one and say they’re unreliable.

    Okay, so this is the basic GT, not the GT plus which escencially is an RT trim level with the exception of the engine, hood and front parking sensors.
    Really, the price difference is mainly for the V8 sounf and the hood it comes with. And maybe the headlights... but the price difference between the GT plus and the RT is quite less than 12k.
    If you are deciding with wour guts and you have deep enough pockets go for the RT all day long. If you are taking a more logical decition, based on numbers, cost of ownership, features included, comodities, longevity, etc... maybe the GT plus is the better deal.
    Now, the basic GT is for those who want a Durango but can't pay the durango, so Dodge offers a version that comes without a lot of premium options to get it into a price people can afford more easily. Also to offer a alightly more equipped versionnof the police patrol trim which comes without console, with a steering column shifter, unbareable back seats, no premiums at all, etc. So maybe for private security agencies or police departments that need a unit right away and can't wait for the police pursuit version to arrive or the chief wants a durango to have as his patrol, but doesn't want the vompromise of a police trim. And again, also for broke guys with aspirational tastes like myself.
    This week or the next my dad is signing for his GT plus, which is all he will ever need. The RT would be nice, but it is a big step up in terms of price and fuel economy for a daily driver in a city that barely sees 30 mph when the sun is out.
