Agreed! Depending on your driving, you will get similar MPGs. If you are driving city, V6 will help a lot. If you are driving highway, honestly they get similar due to MDS. They both have their share of problems. Both platforms have about equal amount of problems, but different for each. Love them both! I could not afford an R/T yet so I got a GT Plus. I have done a cold air intake (mainly for sound) and a 80mm HEMI throttle body and it is noticeably faster now! I will have to get a 0-60, but it definitely pulls at 3500 rpm more!
Tested both of the 2 at the dealership, getting the v6 to save some money on gas......crazy how gas prices are going up; great video by the way.

Hi Diego, i couldn't try the V6 at the dealership since the only model available for the drive test was the V8.
How is the driving experience between the 2 motors? I'm not the racing type, but I want to haul a camper or boat with it and I'm a little afraid of the performance between the 2 motors...

@@Verzula if I may chime in for the reply at $2.89 it was like 60 bucks to fill. When gas hit $5 bucks a gallon it was about 100 to fill On 87 regular. Range was about 400 miles per tank.
I have the V6 and around 5,000 Miles it really started to break in and now its hard to believe my vehicle is a V6, the power is that good. I think after so many years Dodge just has the Calibrations down perfect. The Car Drives and Feels very Tuned.. The Gas Mileage for the pop you get is awesome as well. Everything is so smooth and quiet at 18,000 Miles i am very happy so far.
Most of the torque is available downlow at about 2000 rpm . Gives it that kick

I walked one of these in a v6 with my rx350 in a roll on with my 2009 rx350. I have an auto 5speed with 270 hp and less torque.

Great video. We have a 21 RT and i will say get what your budget allows. I truly think you couldnt go wrong with a v6 too but once you drive the hemi youll fall in love.

They had to offer the V6 to get the sales volume necessary to make some money. If they only did V8s, the entry price for the Durango would be too high in my opinion
Apparently you can get the 10.1 inch screen in the GT as well for $995 which I think is worth it if you plan on saving gas and not spending the extra $9000 for an RT.
The 24 DDRT Premium w/TnG can be had for a mere $3k over the GT now. Why would you ever buy the GT? Brembos, HEMI, additional suspension/steering options for only $3k just makes sense to me.

The pentastar is one heck of an engine, even with the old 5 speed it has a really good initial punch for a c6 it sips fuel (for a 2 ton suv) and as a matter of fact it sound very good for a v6

Yes the penastar is a bullet proof engine, seen them with 250k miles in charger. And the 8 speed is flawless
I have a 2018 DD 3.6L I’m always surprised at the pickup that it has especially in sport mode.
I had a loaner charger back on 2017 and I thought the same thing!
I agree I own a 2015 SXT plus I normally drive it with the paddle shifters and you notice the difference and exhaust sound not quite the V8 sound but still good enough. Also would mention better having a bench seat for when carrying stuff in the back with the seats down there's no gap like with the captains chairs.

Honestly, was getting ready to destroy this review after the first test drive. It sounded like he was going to just trash the Pentastar, but he gave it a decent review. Nice job. The fact of the matter is that unless you go with the 392 for performance the 3.6 is a great 90% solution. It has good towing, decent mileage, and good power.
Not a flawless review by any means but I figured people would appreciate knowing that under normal driving, there’s not as much of a difference as they might think

We're picking up a 22 R/T BT TnG tomorrow morning for my wife. One of my best friends was a service manager for a local Dodge and has changed flags amidst the current sales slump and Stellantis issues mid-'24. His repeated and firm guidance to us was specifically NOT to get the v6 due to it having many service issues including overheating, etc. We were not seeking the BT TnG upgrade but lucked into a lower miles car with more options for same price as a Carmax R/T with 3x the miles and not a clean panel to be seen. We'll report back in 100k when we replace the valvetrain and muscle on for another 100k!
I have the V6, I love it. I wanted the V8, but it consumes a lot of gas and it is not logical to drive V8 as daily driving. But I miss the exhaust sound of the V8 and I am looking hard to find a good setup to make it sound close, but it seems to be impossible :(

I’ve got a ‘19 GT Plus AWD in Destroyer, w/Blacktop & performance hood. Love it, and the 6 does a good job, and sounds pretty damn good. Personally, I want the ‘21 R/T because I just want a Hemi, and I also want the Tow n Go package, for the SRT parts.
And that nice new interior too!
The Tow N Go is nice as I have one but get the Harmon Karmon if want a good sound system as well..The 9 speaker Alpine sucks.

Love my BlackTop 2015 Durango Rallye Mod but before my Warranty expired I had engine repair after hearing engine tapping sounding like Lifters, ended up being Failed Roller Rocker Arms and Damaged Camshaft. AutoNation owned it and repaired it in less than a week but Buyer Beware! Make sure to have your vehicle checked out and repaired if you hear any engine noise before your Warranty expire. This issue is very common with the V6 but the V6 is a Beast after Mod.
You'd start noticing more as you load it up with people and stuff. V8 all the way for this vehicle.
Love how they charged extra for features that came directly from factory.
I got the GT and I always drive it in Sport Mode On and it feels like a V8 🤷🏻♂️

I used to drive mine in Sport mode all the time until I installed a Roar Pedal. Gives you instant throttle and no lag depending on the level you put it on
Love my 2023 Durango RT.. I could never go back to a V6
Agreed, I traded in a 2018 Nissan Pathfinder with a V6 for a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 3.6L, and I could feel the increased power in the 3.6L, then I recently traded in the Grand Cherokee for a Durango R/T, and I love the increased power of the 5.7L V8. Part of me is now wondering about the 6.4L, but not sure I'm ready for the extra cost. At this point, I'll just add an air intake and have a new exhaust system put on to give it some extra horsepower.
The 5.7 definitely is the better engine. I don’t think the hits were really comparable. Since we only saw the V6 hit from a rolling start and only the second hit. It definitely does not have e same power of you are looking for power. Just ordered me a Granite 5.7 with the suede Leather seats and Captains chairs. I can’t wait for it to be delivered in a few months. Worth the price paid.
I think the 5.7 is the ideal motor for the Durango. But honestly I’m always more impressed by dodge’s other motors when I drive them. The 5.7 is such a mainstay. Nothing flashy, heavy, sounds good
I only want 3 things in a Durango. A 5.7 hemi the tow and go and AWD. All three a must have. The Durango is too heavy for a V6 and it's a truck so it'll get used as a truck so you know how that story goes.
15:41 It's probably the RWD. The V8 can't put down all it's power so the lighter V6 feels similar. If they were both AWD, the V8 would have a bigger advantage.

So far in my 2019 Charger GT, the 3.6L engine is pretty decent. Sport mode really does a great job on acceleration. With that being said, I cant wait until I upgrade to a Scat or maybe a Durango SRT lol
Nice! Ive always been pleasantly surprised by Dodge's V6. The 5.7 V8 is way heavier so Id say the real step up is that 6.4L Hemi (392)

My 1999 Durango has 320K miles. Never had a problem other than the normal stuff after these many miles. Upper and lower ball joints a new alternator and regular maintenance. I wonder how long these new ones last. Especially the V6 with a terrible transmission history.

@@Vadim_Andr. Consumer Reports. The V6 ranked only 2 out of 5, partially because of frequent, but minor transmission problems and problems with the power train. Neighbor of mine is a mechanic for Chrysler and feels the same about the V6. This said, transmission problems were much more severe 5 and more years ago and has somewhat improved. Not sure what type of trans is in the newer Durango.

Im really curious about the fuel useage. I mean, gas price is getting higher and higher. The thing im interested in, whats the better choice for longer ranges? Like i do highways (80-130). The v6 always runs on 6 cylinder, the v8 can run on 4. What would be the fuel useage on them?

Recently bought my wife the 2021 GT+ with the 3.6l Penta, Alpine 10” upgrade, blacktop package, moonroof, cargo rails, and performance hood. I’m probably going to take it back to the dealer to have the tow package thrown on as well. I didn’t think she really needed it but now I’m thinking it wouldn’t hurt to have it on either. I’m also thinking on the raised second row center console while I’m at it with the tow package. But this is still a really nice highway cruiser. If I buy three magnetic antennas and a magnetic spotlight, cars and semi’s are sure to quickly get out of my way in the highways fast lane… 😂

That can only be done the right at the factory when the car is first being built. If anyone told you differently they lied to you. You can add the ball attachment but as far as the heaven duty engine cooling and the leveling kit that can not be added
@@Jordanfiend361this is true. From factory with the tow package it can tow 6200 but if you add it later without having the HD brakes, cooling and load leveling suspension then it can only tow about 3000. If people read their manuals it explains it all
Good Vedeo! I had a 2014 Charger SE with the Pentastar and it had no problem getting up and going. I traded up to a 2019 Ram 1500 BigHorn with the 5.7 and absolutely love the sound, the grumble, and torque. But I don't feel that my ram absolutely blows away my charger even though the Ram has that V8... the gas is horrendous, the annual tags are $600, the insurance is rediculous and I'm actually going to trade it for either an SXT or GT Durango and still feel good at the end of the day.
You didn't talk about the sport mode in the RT. When it is put in the Sport Mode, the RT has better take off and pick up

I love sport mode on my 2017 Durango R/T. Definitely makes a difference on accelerating and that stiffer handling. Best overall suv IMO for a family vehicle, and “sports car in one” I mean what other suv is easily accepted and sought after at car meets? With AWD and it’s 50/50 weight distribution it can manage very well when aggressively driving

RT tow and go with the v6 is ridiculously fast, Unless you are towing like 8000lb. it's MORE than enough. Bought it six months ago and it still surprises me when push the pedal down.

The V8 is always the better option, especially when you change out the exhaust so you can really hear the v8 roar. Especially a vehicle that size and weight you want the added HP and especially the torque of that V8.

I would usually agree, might as well get the AWD. I think dodge just pushes the RWD ones out for people to save a few thousand and keep it on the pavement
In Florida you don’t need AWD. Most vehicles at dealers in Florida don’t have AWD or 4x4. Let’s say a dealer has 15 durangos probably only about 3 are equipped with AWD. Since it not needed it’s an option for buyers to save a few thousand dollars and maybe opt for a higher trim instead.
Just bought a 2021 Durango in this color. Came out of a 2012 Durango RT with a V-8. I ended up getting the V-6. Other than the sound not a lot of difference. Much better gas mileage and it made the boss happy

I have a 2020 Durango GT AWD, Tow-N-Go package, in Reactor blue. I wanted one of the 3 lighter colors. For dealing with sun induced heat. The Reactor Blue gets plenty of compliments though. On bumpy mountain highways like CA-17 between San Jose, CA and Santa Cruz. The Durango with the Tow-N-Go package, drives much better than a Challenger or Charger.
The 2021 dash is so nice an upgrade. I am tempted to trade the 2020 in for a 2021. But I manage my money better than that.
The Tow-N-Go package has a good balance between performance and economy. I get about 22mpg at 80mph, 26mpg at 70mph, and 31mpg at 60mph.
In many states, the Durango is classified as a truck.
We have a 2016 Ram 1500 Quadcab 4wd and a 2018 Ram 2500 Crewcab 4wd. The Durango is very useful for going to places that have parking garages. Since the Rams do have a height clearance issue in many parking garages. The Hellcat SRT does have a nice acceleration factor. But our Ram 2500 is an absolute brute for power. With the 6.7L Cummins.

Go with the V8!!! It’s not as bad of mpg as they showed in the video. More like 16-17 city or better. I have a AWD Durango R/T and before bigger off-road tires I would average 21mpg... and could easily manage 24-26mpg highway or when just cruising down long country roads with no stops

I bought a Dodge Mini van for the fam. We loved it & that started some shit with Dodge. Moved on to the Durango. And probably continue on to an SRT/redeye/demon 🤷🏼♂️ or whatever goofey shit they put out when we buy the next one. Awesome whips. Fun to drive.
The Hemi is the best MOPAR engine to have, but the V6 Pentastar is no slouch. My 2018 Jeep Cherokee with the 3.2L V6 does the job but combined with the problematic 9 spd transmission forces you to compensate. FCA hasn't been able to resolve the issue, so just have to accept it but still getting 24 mpg Hwy / 18 City

Im getting a new one in 2 more years. I have 2020 gt plus love it. Dont know if i want the v8. Definitely more than 5k price difference used. Like a 10 price difference used

Interesting video. Ultimately they want to remove all car anyways. But yeah, i'm watching this while wondering if I buy a Durango or GolfR. I don't like the weight of the durango, but from experience, I'll have more fun with the durango because I'll have more friends willing to hope in to go somewhere. Yeah, here in canada, I have noticed that whenever we commute together, we always take the car of friends with the biggest car even if we would be perfeclty fine in the smaller one and save on fuel. It doesn't matter. What is even crazier is that this rule is automatic. There isn't even a discussion or a debate, people naturally agree on the biggest car without saying a word. This apply even when they never met before. It is a silent rule here. Hence, why I'm considering the durango. Nice to haul friend and kids.

I want to see towing a 5000 lb trailer on highway up and down hills. They rate it at 7000 for v6? But real world testing compared to hemi. Is it worth hemi over 6 I had a Chevy 5.3 full size van and had to hold it in 3 rd or 4 th to maintain highway speed on hills. I also have a caravan with the pentestar 6 good engine but 289 HP at almost max rpm don’t know about towing w/v6 Durango

Probably depends on the climate and they’re budget. But agreed, AWD SUVs make the most sense

I have a 2018 GT blacktop v6. Nice ride but my only complaint is that I avg 14 mpg. I mostly drive city. It was advertised way higher. I can’t imagine the amount the v8 truly gets you.
Got the '21 SRT, 9mpg.
It's all about the smiles per gallon😁
Turn off eco mode in the city eco mode is best used for highway

We just bought a R/T and I'm having some *slight* regrets after seeing this video. I love the car, but I wish we would of looked around more carefully for the right option package. The captain chairs are nice, but mine has the upgraded center console so my kids have a harder time getting to the back.
Also, the I don't have the upgraded leather seats, I would of traded the 2nd row console for those. We also don't have the blacktop or trailer hitch options, and instead have a moonroof (which was around $1000). The blacktop package looks great with that color scheme, but I already have a black car with black interior, and I kind of like the contrasting chrome wheels.
I've read you can convert your console to a non-console by replace the second row console with the flat dual cup holder piece. It's not a perfect conversion, but it works.
