    When it comes to fighting hair loss, we're all looking for a low-cost, low-risk, high-reward treatment. At first glance, Nizoral® shampoo (ketoconazole) appears to fit this option...
    But the truth is that Nizoral® works way better for some than for others. And fascinatingly, there seems to be a set of scalp conditions that correlate with hair loss... and if you have these conditions, you can often tell if you'll be a great (or terrible) responder to the shampoo.
    This video dives into the science! Here are the time stamps:
    0:00 - What is Nizoral?
    1:37 - Microbes: how they hurt our hair
    4:06 - How does Nizoral work?
    5:30 - Clinical studies
    7:20 - Nizoral: the bottom line?
    7:54 - Takeaway #1: use a 2% formulation
    8:32 - Takeaway #2: apply as directed
    8:55 - Takeaway #3: don't quit too early
    9:18 - How to know if you're a good candidate
    10:05 - Before-after photos: Rabih
    10:59 - What if Nizoral makes things worse?

    The time I faced hair fall, I followed all these to effectively control it:
    Incorporate hot oil scalp massages into your routine.
    Do not use hot water when rinsing your hair.
    Protect your hair from too much sweat.
    Use a wide tooth neem wood comb to detangle wet hair.
    Decrease your sugar and unhealthy food consumption.
    Use natural anti hair fall shampoo and hair oil like Littleeextra coccconion.
    Maintain a positive mindset for general well being.

    Good video, I came up to the same limited studies upon my search. Also the same conclusion as its cheap and falls under the why not category, plus even if you don´t have excessive or visual signs that you need it, in some studies the related the MPB to some micros. The question tho remains, how to use it ! The frequency suggested on the bottle is for treatment of fungus and other infections as mentioned. It also says it should be used at that frequency in the beginning and for a limited time only. (the frequency should drop to once a week after the treatment if my memory serves) Thus if you have any input on how often to use it, that would be really helpful! .

    Hi.
    I was just prescribed this 2% shampoo for Seborrheic Dermatitis. I was hesitant to use it. Reason being possible hair loss as a side affect.😮
    I realize now that hair loss is the beginning of entering the growth phase of using hair growth products. I am a 61 year old woman. I have received great results from using 50mg of Spironolactone along with 6mg (1/2 tablet) of oral minoxidil once a day. I did not want to lose the growth required during this last year. Amazing growth!

After that only condition the next couple days or so and then every 2-3 days shampoo twice back to back and condition. The second time you shampoo after you already shampoo'd helps to thoroughly clean the scalp.

    Hey man, thank you for your work. Was wondering if wearing a gaming headset 12 hours a day can contribute negatively? Because you mentioned in an interview with Paul Saladino that someone wearing socks high up everyday had less hair growth where the socks had been.

    • @PerfectHairHealth
      @PerfectHairHealth  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's a great question. As long as the headset is adjusted regularly and not pressing too hard against the scalp, I can't imagine this being too problematic. However, you will see pressure alopecia occur in people who wear high socks (like you mentioned) or in people who wear glasses constantly (along the sides of the scalp). So if you're gaming hard, it is technically possible.

    I am jealous of your hair man , its so dense. Can i ask , by saying to use it 1 to 4 times per week , you mean that those are the only times you can wash your hair or wash the other days with an ither shampoo? My hair is too oily and i wash it daily.

    • @lolidangelmeier
      @lolidangelmeier 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i am jealous of you brother, i'd wish my hair would oil up faster but after taking nizoral 2% it really dries it out, not extremely but i still notice. It does help against the fungus and my dandruff stopped so thats that at least. I use Nizoral once a week and a hydration shampoo also once a week to rehydrate my hair and scalp, i think 2 times a week is a bit extreme but it also depends on how oily your hair gets. In your case i'd say twice a week.

    Rob, do you think a Ciciopirox, Pyrithione Zinc, & Salicylic Acid shampoo is just as effective as the Nizoral?

    • @PerfectHairHealth
      @PerfectHairHealth  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There was a head-to-head study demonstrating that 1% zinc pyrithione was just as effective as 1% ketoconazole at improving dandruff... however, at that percentage dilution, neither shampoo demonstrated hair regrowth / hair diameter increases. So, I glean two things from this: (1) 1% ketoconazole is inferior to 2% ketoconazole at regrowing hair, and (2) 1% zinc pyrithione isn't enough to improve hair loss by itself (at least based on that one study). So I'd say it's not as effective, at least with the data currently available (although I am definitely open to revising my opinion based on new information)!

I've been using zinc pyrithione shampoos with no improvement. Using a hard water filter for my shower did help in reducing hair loss. I'm yet to try ketoconazole shampoos basically because of side effect concerns. Does it increase hypertension and reduce male hormones?

      Hey dude, trying to help you a little bit. First thank you for the hard water filter idea, I think I‘ll gonna try this, because I have similiar symptoms. So yes, for me the keto shampoo helped a lot, if you first got it you have to take it the first 5 days (everyday) afterwards you go with 2-3 per week and you are good. Maybe it will dry out your hair a little bit, but you can use conditioner or something. But it will cure your flare ups and your scalp will be less itchy. And dude, I shaved my head and if your head shape isn‘t that bad, I will recommend it to you, the inflammation is basically gone, I think I noticed a little regrowth on my temples since I shaved my had to 1cm but can say that much, because it‘s only 4 months ago. Also thinking about to take topical finasterid, but not sure right now if the risk is worth it, but the risk is lower as with oral finasterid. And by the way, I had no sides with keto, only if you use it to often your scalp can get to dry and itchy, but normally it‘s not happening. And unfortunately I stopped using keto shampoo in the summer, because apple cider vinegar helped me a lot, didn‘t take it for 4 months and boy wow my hair loss got so worse, like I‘ve lost so much hair wow, I regret that I stopped taking it without any good reason, that‘s why I now have to consider taking something else, so dumb, such a shame.

    I've been using Nizoral 1% for about 10 years now as directed. In order to make sure the shampoo is soaking in my scalp for 10 minutes, I apply the Nizoral outside the shower on my head with a little water and massage it in. I can't say whether Nizoral has resulted in hair regrowth alone but I can say it has helped keeping what I currently have and thickens up my hair for more volume. I've never tried the 2% as I just don't want to go through the hassle of continually getting a prescription.
    But this needs to be paired with the 5% minoxidil foam. The foam IMO works the best and is most effective. It does cost a lot more than the non-foam version but I find the best deal to be at Costco. I feel like this has been the only solution that works for me for the last 10 plus years but I am aware once I stop both, I may have accelerated hair loss.

My story is that I’ve noticed some hair thinning since I’ve been put on a hormone disrupter medication due to a family history of BC as a preventative measure and have been using minoxidil but recently added Nizoral shampoo to the mix and it has been wonderful. • @PerfectHairHealth
      @PerfectHairHealth  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jerry! I mention in the video that 1% ketoconazole led to a decrease in hair shedding, but no changes to hair density. You’re right that the paper on 1% ketoconazole did find an increase in hair shaft thickness, but it’s important to note that this study focused on subjects with dermatitis-associated telogen effluvium linked to androgenic alopecia. This is a subset of AGA sufferers, which creates some challenges when trying to apply the results to the broader population. So, while I like the data on 1% ketoconazole for fighting dandruff, the data I’ve seen suggest that the 2% formulation is likely better at improving AGA. Of course this has to be balanced with the reality that 2% may be more drying for some people (as you mentioned). In this case, 1% (or a conditioner post-2% use) might be more appropriate.
      I’m not currently aware of any studies that compare 1% vs 2% ketoconazole for AGA with hair counts as a primary endpoint, but if you know of any, let me know and I’d be happy to take a look!
