  • I love a lot of Jimmy’s content and think he has excellent points about repair and accountability in relationships.
That being said this video didn’t really land for me because I don’t believe everybody had the capacity to change.
Whilst people with high narcissistic traits may be able to change, that may require a big rock bottom moment for them and their capacity to pull through and make the relationship work may be limited as change is not pleasant for a lot of people.
At the end of the day, we could spin our wheels assessing whether or not the people around us want to change but I think it’s far better to be concerned with: how much am so willing to tolerate in my relationship in order to be satisfied?

    Narcissists do not change.

I think the word narcissist has become a pop culture for any problem that people find in others. Totally different of what psychoanalysis talks about -- it's with Freud that the narcissistic notion of personality was born. For psychoanalysis, we all have our narcissistic share (we all have a Narcissus inside us). It is also a deeper look at the subject. I started following clinicians/teachers/researchers who work on attachment theory through psychoanalysis, like Anne Power, and it seems much more interesting to me, none of this youtube best-selling popism (I'm not referring to you, Ken) about Attachment theory. I can't stand anymore people selling courses to change attachment/cptsd, when it's a good and deep individual psychotherapy lasting years that can bring profound changes in our lives -- the rest, like books & courses can illuminate some parts, but attachment is a family problem. You don't change attachment to date, but to have a deep and meaningful connection with your own existence.
This word, nascissist, comes out of people's mouths so easily and they are not even studied to give a clinical opinion.
