For a second I genuinely thought they had extended Not to be 14 minutes long.

Beautiful band 🤙
is Shoulders a true story?
Adrianne glittering like the treasure she is
Big Thief is the most real band I have seen in a very long time, and Adrienne Lenker is this generation’s best songwriter in my opinion. I just love how the lyrics can be so visceral and so moving at the same time... Her songs, to me, are all about how life can be beautiful and crushing at the same time. And I love how they four look like they are not trying to be anything they are not, and MAN, there you see a show well played!
And I can see all that through a screen in my living room in a melancholic self distancing brazilian evening... What a time to be alive!!!
Belas palavras, mano.
Também amo as composições da Adrienne.
O novo trampo dela solo tá 10/10
Se não fosse sarah jarosz eu não estaria aqui. Vale a pena conferir o trabalho dela, ela fez um cover de cattails que ficou lindo demais.
stay safe and healthy my friend
This isn’t a band anymore, just a family doing their thing. Love em

Agreed, just looking at them interact puts a smile on my face- such a good set
Adrianne and buck are divorced
@@billsux2139 uh i…
I'm obsessed with "not" it's such a visceral song, I don't know it just hit me
I feel EXACTLY the same and described your words to my wife just earlier today.
Same! It puts me in a weird state. Anyone know more music like it?
@@Metabrotropic Elliott Smith may hit similarly
@@Metabrotropic love this song too...it reminds me of an album called "The Decline of British Sea Power"
The sum is greater than its parts on many levels in that song.... It just builds, I love it. It transcend "music" and becomes something more...
this version of "not" carried me through a suicidal depression that i went through in the beginning of 2020. i can't explain the ways and means of it anymore. but i'm so appreciative of the band for producing it.
You've got this.
Hope you're in a better place now ❤️
I’m glad you’re “Not” dead
what a great song
Buck Meek - biggest reach in rock. How many octaves can that dude play at once?! Never seen anyone play rythym like it! Totally amazing! Love to KEXP and Big Thief!
Love when Buck has those couple of lines of vocals to himself during masterpiece. Priceless smile.
Not is the best song I have heard in years and years. I listen to every version I can get my hands on. And that scream she does is incredible.
agreed. I have rewatched many KEXP sessions but...this one.....I come back to over and over and over for that song. That solo is like...beautiful chaos.
Bucks anti-solo at 21:09 is just amazing, bless this man for showing us the way
Probably one of the better ones he's done, but I'm not really a huge fan of that style, it's not always complimentary imo, but maybe that's the point.
The drummer looks like a dude who hangs out with everyone but never says a word, just chilling, and then gets on the drums and comes alive
Like John Bonham, except for the skill
"Not" has to be one of the absolute best songs ever created! That solo is always so emotional!
KEXP is life.
Agreed!
Big Thief is life
"like a leaf falling or . . ."
"Your thumb."
"Yeah"
And now I'm looking at my thumb. Thanks.
You can tell when an artist is genuine and this band exudes artistic integrity.
One of the best bands making music these days... incredible stuff.
i was just binge watching big thief live performances last night, so this feels like a blessing from the universe
I jump on every occasion to listen to a new version of "Not". Such a wonderful song.
Whoever mixes the audio for this is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Worth seeing live, no matter who you are.
Andy Baxter saw them on their last UK tour in a small venue and it was mind blowing. So much love in the room. Seeing them in April again and can’t wait!
this performance of masterpiece is such a mess and i love it so much
The irony of "Masterpiece" - Cooouuuullddd be my favorite that I've seen online.
I like the Tiny Desk Concert version a bit more but Im pleased that they are tinkering and being free with songs
And they were all smiles the whole time. It's part of THE song, after all...
i like how buck marinates on his guitar. he looks like a chef who approves of the meal he just made
Ive always wondered if it was some sort of tic? But ive never been sure and can never find anything about it? It seems to be only when he's playing or singing but especially the way he moves his head has me wondering 😂 he's awesome though, so even if it is some sort of tic i dont think it hinders him at all, even his solo stuff is amazing
And now they're nominated for a GRAMMY! Well done, guys!
REALLY? Thank you for sharing that info.
Crazy to think that bassist went on to storm the Capitol
Literally who i thought it was when I saw the news.....
this comment.
lmaoooo
Nice one sir, excellent excellent comment.
felt so bad having that immediately come to mind xD
Love how their bassist is really rocking that wolf hat
It's not a hat. It's his real hair.
''Not'' is such a masterpiece! Always crying over here.
I'm with you there. Outstanding
Great band and performance. The Furry on the bass has surprising biceps
This is four people living life. Love it.
I feel the same emotions I felt when I heard Arcade fire for the first time. Stopped me in my tracks. Fantastic sound and hard hitting lyrically.
So Agree. Connections. We are all connected.
AF can’t compare to these Mavericks
There's only four of them so how are they dressed like they're in six different bands
Who cares how they dress!?!
No one actually cares, but come on. The stark contrast between all of their outfits is absurdly funny
@@TheFameMobster correct
You should check out their tiny desk concert. All 4 of them looked like they belonged in entirely different bands that make fun of each other in their songs.
@@MrPieEducation Yeah it is odd coming from Tiny Desk and seeing them here. It's like someone consulted them on how to look vs just do your thing
I love how each song descends into madness from such calm, it's what makes them so good live. Really takes you somewhere
hahaha, morgan is fangirling on them so hard. it's clear she's a huge fan
"how did you make the second album?"
"well there were beans..."
Seeing these guys in December and I have never been more excited for a show
Oh my god they evolved so much I hadn’t listened to their new stuff yet but like they’re gonna play a show next month where I live so I got the ticket and im like really high right now and shook
This is one hell of a good band. Adrianne Lenker does some lead guitar work that taps into the same cosmic mystery that Neil Young discovered. Wow.
Yeah I got the Neil Young thing too.. When he's live, doing the extended guitar solos where it has no real structure, but he's going where it takes him.. I think it helps that he was a bit limited on lead guitar intricacies which made him freer to do what he felt rather than being chained to the music theory
well that was the most fun I've had all day
Ok so this is my new favorite band.
I loved it just found it now
@@patriciokonor5236 Ditto
What was your old favorite band?
What was the weather like there? I'm confused.
somewhere between fall-spring and winter-summer
when hate blossoms like a flower and hearts forget to hibernate
Do you mean inside the treehouse or outside?
Best comment.
It's Seattle dude.
@@austinjames174 Exactly, they probably all had perfect clothes for some point in the day lol
Definitely one of the best live videos of theirs that I've seen. Great production by KEXP too.
Also, Max is such a goof with that f-ing hat. What a wonderful group of idiosyncratic folks.
LYRICS
Shoulders
Please wake up
Please wake up
Touch my skin and tell me where you been
You brought me in
You brought me in
So touch my skin and tell me where you been
You showed me how
To keep myself from burning out
They found you in the morning
The blood was on your shoulders
They found you at the corner
Your head was doubled over
And the blood of the man who killed my mother with his hands
Is in me
It's in me
In my veins
Please wake up
Please wake up
Touch my skin and tell me where you been
You brought me in
My best friend
So touch my skin and tell me where you been
You showed me how
To hold my sin
And kiss the bad ways I have been
They found you in the morning
The blood was on your shoulders
They found you at the corner
Your head was doubled over
And the blood of the man who's killing our mother with his hands
Is in me
It's in me
In my veins
It's in me
It's in me
In my veins
Not
It's not the energy reeling
Nor the lines in your face
Nor the clouds on the ceiling
Nor the clouds in space
It's not the phone on the table
Nor the bed in the earth
Nor the bed in the stable
Nor your stable words
It's not the formless being
Nor the cry in the air
Nor the boy I'm seeing
With her long black hair
It's not the open weaving
Nor the furnace glow
Nor the blood of you bleeding
As you try to let go
It's not the room
Not beginning
Not the crowd
Not winning
Not the planet
Not spinning
Not a rouse
Not heat
Not the fire lapping up the creek
Not food
Not to eat
Not the meat of your thigh
Nor your spine tattoo
Nor your shimmery eye
Nor the wet of the dew
It's not the warm illusion
Nor the crack in the plate
Nor the breath of confusion
Nor the starkness of slate
It's not the room
Not beginning
Not the crowd
Not winning
Not the planet
Not spinning
Not a rouse
Not heat
Not the fire lapping up the creek
Not food
Not to eat
Not what you really wanted
Nor the mess in your purse
Nor the bed that is haunted
With a blanket of thirst
It's not the hunger revealing
Nor the ricochet in the cave
Nor the hand that is healing
Nor the nameless grave
It's not the room
Not beginning
Not the crowd
Not winning
Not the planet
Not spinning
Not a rouse
Not heat
Not the fire lapping up the creek
Not food
Not to eat
Not to die
Not dying
Not to laugh
Not lying
Not the vacant wilderness vying
Not the room
Not beginning
Not the crowd
Not winning
Not the planet
Not spinning
Masterpiece
Years, days, makes no difference to me babe
You look exactly the same to me
Ain't no time, crossing your legs inside the diner
Raising your coffee to your lips, the steam
You saw the masterpiece, she looks a lot like you
Wrapping her left arm around your right
Ready to walk you through the night
You whisper to a restless ear, "can you get me out of here?
This place smells like piss and beer, can you get me out?"
You were asking me, how to get you free
I only know the recipe to roam
You saw the masterpiece, she looks a lot like you
Wrapping her left arm around your right
Ready to walk you through the night
Old stars
Filling up my throat
You gave em to me when I was born
Now they're coming out
Laying there on the hospital bed your eyes were narrow, blue and red
You took a draw of breath and said to me
You saw the masterpiece, she looks a lot like me
Wrapping my left arm round your right
Ready to walk you through the night
Old friends, old mothers, dogs and brothers
There's only so much letting go you can ask someone to do
So I keep you by my side, I will not give you to the tide
I'll even walk you in my stride, Marie
Cause I saw the masterpiece, she looks a lot like you
Wrapping your left arm round my right
Ready to walk me through the night
Toy
What a fool, familiar dream
I wake up laughing and running
From the boy crying and coming
'Cause the toy in my hand is real
What a tomb we're building here
In the sphere, that's where we all die
In the eye, that's where I'm living
The toy in my hand is real
In the room, her warm hands play
On my breast, what is she singing?
Her form ringing and ringing
'Cause the toy in my hand is real
The toy in my hand is real
Charcoal, the jet planes purr
In the crew, distant as paper
Children burn, faceless vapor
'Cause the toy in my hand is real
Yes, the toy in my hand is real
I cant get over the majesty of this performance of “Not”. Thank you Adrienne
they are so entertaining to watch. so genuine
Ugh I love this band so much! Their songs always make me cry
It's been a minute since a song (Shoulders) actually gave me physical chills, funnily enough all over my shoulders.
I keep coming back to this one. Best version of masterpiece out there.
"The Toy" is stunning. Has an In Rainbows-era Radiohead feel to it
I love this band. This left me wanting at least another hour.
They are just amazing. And I bought the ticket for them gig in my city just few hours ago.. I really can't wait to see them live!
I'm in love with the bassist 😍
If I could catch one band live right now it would be Big Thief hands down
will be my 4th time come Feb, utterly incredible band
mine would be tied between them and King Krule. I see him in April.
everything about Big Thief blows me away
Can we talk about the guitar player’s sway and playing those crazy chords
glides and sways.
Absolutely amazing band and "Not" is such a raw, beautiful song. It gave me goosebumps just like the first time when I heard Jeff Buckley's Grace album.
So powerful. Best band and artist Ive found in awhile and hope to see live someday
A band's band, the authenticity is just something to marvel at
I really liked this group!!!! Great sound and wishing a great future!
God! Big Thief is the best Band in existence! SO RAW
good god so much love during that last song
Four masterpieces!
I'm here because LP recommended this band in an interview and I loved it!
I just love their vibe !!
They are so amazing live. If you ever get the chance, go see them!
A new band to me after listening to vampire weekend but this is Just wonderful, brought tears to my eyes listening to now, cant wait to see them live now :)
10000 maniacs with a beautiful kick
live shows of this band are so cool i can't wait to see them for the first time in june
Yup, they are playing Glastonbury in June, and I can't wait to be there
Absolutely love the guitar solo at 21:10. He's trying hard to play it as messy as possible and the other's are all lovin it, and yet it still sounds amazing
Awesome band! i love everyting about Adrienne and her song writing... original and inspired. "Not" is a brilliant song but spend some time listing to the Big Thief back catalogue for many beautiful songs. Such such great song writing and muscianship i'm looking forward to you guys coming to the UK soon
Going from tiny desk to this is like they have all digivolved and its awesome 👌
Flippin' love this damn band

Love this band
Finally something new in rock scene. Very personal, deep and creative. Thank you.
Awesome interview questions!
Greetings from Zagreb, Croatia ! I am your fan, folks...
Awesome!
This is one of those performances that I just couldn’t take my eyes off of. What a song “Not” is… wow
Not only really good music - but having fun while doing it. Love it!
My partner came to check on me because I kept audibly uttering "ugh" during 'Not'. Outrageous piece of music. Bravo
Wow. Love her passion.
Woot, I can listen to big thief for a long time.
this is everything
Omg, Masterpiece really is a masterpiece! Love this song!
Ugh, I wish this was 4 hours long. So good.
I love this band.
wow .. this was gold ..
I love how Big Thief will go from delivering the most insane performance to talking about how their album was fuelled by burritos
So true, so real, beautiful
They make me sob love it
Wild , amazing.
When music exposes your suffering and elevates your soul at the same time. Big Thief.
damn, this band are beautiful, so natural, honest, sensitive, so unique
What a band !
