Watched these guys perform in Sydney, Australia a couple of weeks. Needless to say, it was easily the best gig I have been to. Such an honest and pure voice.
Why does this work? By God, it does though. Buck's guitar solos make me laugh with joy as he tries to harness the weirdness. Their harmonies are divine. Adrienne's lyrics, vocals, pain leave me in a heap both sobbing and ever so blasted joyful.
I’m only ten minutes in but a.) this is such good music and b.) I’m so pumped bc just last night I wanted to draw specifically a girl rocking out on a guitar in overalls (been thinking about marceline from adventure time recently) but I couldn’t find any pics of dynamic poses that weren’t a weird amalgamation of a stock photo and a pin up girl. This is perfect though, can’t wait to practice dynamic poses using screenshots (and I can’t believe she’s literally wearing what I wanted the drawing to wear)

The sound mix is awful....live they are amazing, Adrainnes guitar is way too soft and the bass and drums sound like shit, sounds like it was a desk feed and was not remixed for broadcast. Buy the record it's awesome.
Adrianne's guitar is too quiet in this mix relative to Buck's but otherwise this recording sounds good to me. I'm playing it loudly right now on a decent hifi (big floor standing dual concentric Tannoys). This is the best quality recording of their new stuff like Orange and Shark Smile that I have heard online. Glad to have this to listen to until the new album comes out. Just saw them live on Saturday too.
I noticed Buck's playing was different on this night. I completely understand the musician he is, but i thought at this set, his tone and articulations were being reduced. I'm pretty sure he was playing out of the backline amps, aka Not his usual amp. makes sense
Matthew Reid it's out June 9. Title is Capacity. Oddly enough Orange is not on the tracklist for the album. I assume it's new song but strange that they would open SXSW with a new song that's not on the album.

I've never in my life seen a band with that kind of chemistry.
Check out Deerhoof
also, check out "the band" their live performances are heartbreaking - think the drummer and other artists are somewhat influenced by them

big thief never fails to make me cry
I know! Every single time I’m overwhelmed and start crying
you saw the masterpiece, it was a lot like them :)
Every time I come back to Big Thief it's a fantastic experience
Ton of passion comes through in their songwriting and playing. Always fantastic to watch.

I was there too. Such incredibly beautiful music.
Mary is one of my favorite songs of the past decade. Sublime.
"Sublime" you couldn't have put it better. Truly sublime... ugh...
Actually I think Mary is a big theif song. Not sublime.
John Walsh Would be interesting if Sublime covered it. Badfish rather haha.
This year I have fallen in love with the most fantastic and wonderful women + I have found Big Thief. What a year!
My 2022 in a nutshell :)
No superficiality and no walls...pure...lovely....sincere...vulnerable....present.
Love this.... authentic, raw. This hits the nail on the head- in terms of lyrics, vocals, emotional performance!
Masterpiece was one of the top 2016 albums, no doubt
Luis Moldes And they might've topped themselves with Capacity, a more intimate album
Her mid-set speech really hits hard after a year of gig-less covid lockdown
Hey, Universe, thank you for Adrianne and Big Thief. Much love! X
live big thief is the ultimate soul food
they are SO much better live than recorded. love this
Totally agree
@NPR Music - forever grateful for your showcasing of artists that would otherwise not allow me to hear the beautiful music you capture. ❤

what a setlist. nearly flawless.
Lucky enough to catch them in K'zoo @ Bell's Eccentric Cafe last Saturday while in town. Unreal show. Very delicate and powerful. Loved it!!
Vocals are so good.
If you guy’s knew everything you make me fell with your music ❤️
parallels live is the best thing that has ever happened
Thought i had my favorite BT youtube concert courtesy of Daniel Kirby but this one is soooooo so good!
Shark Smile is perfect!!!
I really like their sound. I can only imagine how cool it was to be there to experience all of it in the moment!
Have tickets to see them in Glasgow May 2019 - hope that they play as well as they did in this performance.
Ha ha

Mary is such a great song!!
killer setlist. talk about playing the hits, they went hard.
The sleeves of her jumper would make great tattoos.

There aren't enough superlatives to describe the magnificence of Big Thief. They rock. End of.
Super boring
i Love Big Thief!!!

I don't know if my heart can handle if their tour this summer gets cut because of the COVID-19.
she looks super cute with short hair, and holy fuck they are talented, they sound perfect on the stage.
so comforting.

Is this scream a thing?
Saw you guys open up for Belle and Sebastian. Amazing show!
as a big fan of bas i would have loved to be there. But wow this band............

The way Buck Meek shakes his head annoys me so much.
Only listened to them seconds but, came here to criticize and my only complaint seems to be that this sounds rehearsed. Like it though
This is awful and super boring. Lots of out of tune singing.
Its crazy how much worse she looks with short hair
