My Patreon supporters got early access to this video. For real. www.patreon.com/thebeatgoeson Also, I want to apologize for this video. Johnny Cash released sooo many albums. I shouldn't have mentioned so many of them. That probably exhausted many of you. Anyway, thanks for watching.
If you listened to all of his studio albums nonstop with no breaks it would take 38 hours 8 minutes and 35 seconds. I got this information by going to the Wikipedia list of Johnny Cash studio albums and adding up the length of them, so it may be slightly inaccurate.
My great grandfather grew up with Johnny Cash and told stories and remembered all the things in the early years you said He told all these stories the Christmas before he died R.I.P. peepaw 1929-2020
This video was a breath of fresh air for me after an exhausting exams period. Johnny Cash was a really wonder ful man, and you don't see a lot of people quite like him in the industry. I hope you do a video about Beethoven at some point, for even more diversity.
If you like classical watch Amadeus, 1984 about Mozart. Of course it’s a movie with a lot of untrue stuff in it. But it’s a cool story and the music is amazing.
@@jpmnky It's on my bucket list. Thanks for the recommendation. Also, it does seem to get a lot of historical facts right (outside the Mozart-Salieri feud), it mostly just tries to fill the gaps.
Well done indeed, Mr. Beat. As a huge CASH fan and a fairly knowledgeable one at that, I can say that I learned a thing or two from your presentation and it was thoroughly enjoyable. I'm very impressed that you mentioned Bruce Springsteen as a contributor to the Johnny 99 album (writer of Johnny 99 and Highway Patrolman). A little known fact, I suspect. Mr. beat, maker of quality programming.
Great job! I’d love videos on the history of Eric Clapton, someone who’s had a really long career, or Jimi hendrix, someone who did so much in only 4 years of a career.
I've been watching your other channel for a few years now. Didn't know about this one. Johnny Cash is my very country artist and Elvis was my grandfather's favorite artist. Thank you for the great video
Wow. You really did the research. You could always here this guy’s life story in his voice. Never knew he wrote many of his classic hits. He was already way ahead of the Beatles, and Bob Dylan, in that regard. The original singer songwriter. The real deal.
Being able to get inspiration from many different genres and styles, even if they're not your thing, and putting them into your work flawlessly takes a lot of open-mindedness and talent. I have to respect his artistic hustle. Great upload.
Ahhhh, that beautiful moment when you’ve discovered a great TH-cam channel and now you can enjoy lots of great contents without wanting production time!
Awesome video like always. I like these videos because when I watch a documentary about a musician that I dont know I understand them and the music a bit better than having no background at all. James Brown would be cool for a vid.
So hard to pick a favorite. What Do I Care, Wanted Man, Tennessee Flat Top, and of course his main hits. I think a follow up to Merle Haggard would be cool, as Johnny Cash inspired him to get into music at one of his concerts!

Dear Mr Beat: It is always a delight to see when you upload video essays of all the great recording artists that have graced the radio waves over the past ~70 years. That being said, have you ever considered putting out any content about the people who worked behind the scenes, such as producers like Rick Rubin or Alan Parsons? Regardless, thanks again for the amazing content! I watch every video you put out on both of your channels.
These videos are awesome! I would like to see one of Grand Funk Railroad, who started their own mania in the 70s but never have received the recognition they deserve because of critics. A short documentary on that would be sick
I love how nearly one-third of the whole video is just simply listing all the albums he's released. Could've been a "A Brief History" video if you only discussed the successful ones lol
Tell me about it. I have decided that, moving forward with this series, I'm just going to have either leave some albums out or describe them even more briefly. Then again, I will likely never make a video again about an artist who has released so many albums.
To be honest, I'm not a big country music fan, but I really like Johnny Cash and as a child of the 90s I remember hearing the American Recordings quite regularly on 89X the alternative rock station in Detroit. Another thing that I remember hearing quite a bit was Social Distortion's cover of Ring of Fire, which I can't help but wonder if that help convince him to work with Rick Rubin in the first place.
The term "legend" gets tossed around too loosely in entertainment. But Johnny Cash actually fits the bill. The ultimate bounceback kid with an unbelievable amount of albums (even not counting those compilations).
i have known a country singer who could do so many different styles sad songs happy songs angry songs and funny songs dark songs light songs weird songs he was amazingly versatile
Could You please do a beat goes on for green day? They're probably one of the most iconic pop punk bands period and I think You'd have a very fun time researching them anyways! This was great. This was the first video I watched from this channel, and now I'm hooked to it. Could you do either Michael Jackson or Prince for your next brief history video?
Love your videos. I always learn a lot from them. It would be great if you could do a video for The Smiths, The Stone Roses, The Happy Mondays and My Bloody Valentine.
“Black socks, they never get dirty. The longe you wear them the blacker they get. Someday I think I might wash them but something inside me keeps saying not yet, not yet, not yet.” So interesting to hear the real origins of his choice in costume given that my favourite song by him is “Man in Black”. I really liked the aura he mad around it, a good example of A+ early marketing in country music
I think Mr. Beat says he prefers doing videos on bands that aren't performing anymore since it allows him to give a summary that will not need to be updated.
@@TheAlexSchmidt OK! I'm excited for either Metallica and KISS's histories next. KISS are gonna stop performing after their current final tour, so maybe their history needs to be covered
There is no debate about whether June Carter co-wrote Ring Of Fire. She had the title and literally wrote it in collaboration with Merle Kilgore along with several other songs.
Have always been a Johnny Cash fan (only country artist that I can listen to for more than one song). The albums he did with Rubin to me are the best he did. Covers are hard for me to usually like but OMG, he did some AMAZING ones (Rusty Cage, Hurt, Solitary Man among the best).
Ah man, I wish you mentioned his last studio album Out Among the Stars. The album he did in the 80s that the record label shelved...for some reason and was better than any of his 80s stuff. She Used to Love Me A lot is one of the best songs he did and his vocals bettered the version by Dave Allan Coe. Also I feel missing out that moment where he went into a cave to die was a big boo boo seeing how much it turned his life around. Still, great vid! The man did so much its essy to miss a huge chunk and I Walk the Line could easily get a sequel based on the rest of his life.
Yeah, I really did cut some stuff out there. He just had so many albums already, but you're right- that one had some great tunes on it. Regarding the cave story, I didn't include it because the story was likely either heavily embellished by Johnny and his friends and family or perhaps even made up entirely. I used to think the story was true until I read some biographies about him. Check out the sources in the description by the way! Thanks for the thoughtful comment. It's obvious you're a true fan. :)
