Today we’re going to talk about one of the biggest mistakes people make when they have plantar fasciitis and heel spurs. I’m also going to show you an effective plantar fasciitis stretch that may help with this condition.
    What is plantar fasciitis?
The plantar fascia is a connective tissue sheath right underneath the foot. A lot of times, it can become inflamed, and you’ll feel pain mainly in the heel area, but sometimes in the middle of the foot. You could have micro-trauma going on, or you could also have a build-up of uric acid crystals. You could even have oxalate crystals that are depositing in your foot from certain things that you’re eating.
Some people think that heel spurs are what’s causing their foot pain. But, this is not what’s actually causing the heel pain. There are a lot of people with spurs who don’t have pain, and people with pain that don’t have heel spurs.
One of the biggest mistakes people make with plantar fasciitis is stretching the calf or foot. Stretching this soft tissue when you have micro-tearing can aggravate the tears. The last thing you want to do is stretch something that is torn or irritated.
Oxalates come from certain foods. They can form kidney stones and can deposit in your joints, causing foot pain.
    Avoid these high oxalate foods:
    • Spinach
    • Almonds
    • Parsley
    • Chocolate
    • Peanuts
    • Kiwi
You could also try consuming cheese or calcium with the above foods because the calcium will bind with the oxalates and block some of the absorption.
Uric acid can act as an antioxidant when you do fasting. But, it can also lead to gout and arthritis. Something simple you can do is to alkalize the body by consuming more vegetables or by taking potassium citrate.
A few more things you can do:
    • Consume lemon or lemon juice (helps counter uric acid and oxalates)
    • Take vitamin D ( a really good anti-inflammatory)
    • Take stinging nettle root (a great anti-inflammatory)
    • ***Definitely try my plantar fasciitis stretch

I suffered from plantar fasciitis for two years. Saw specialists, tried special footwear. Nothing helped. Went on Keto, and it disappeared within three weeks. That was two years ago and it has never come back. I think it was a combination of the weight loss and the inflammation calming down on keto that did it.

I had plantar fasciitis, bone spurs and torn tendons in the bottom of my feet. It was exacerbated by a job where I worked in extremely high temperatures for 3 weeks.
I was unable to recover my fluids and electrolytes because I was working and sweating 12-14 hours a day. Chronic dehydration makes tendons brittle. They tear easily.
I was unable to walk properly for months and lost my job. The podiatrist was expensive and painful (cortisone shots) but didn’t improve anything.
After doing my own research, I recovered by using night boots, vitamin d, vitamin k, potassium and magnesium supplements. I also did heavy weights to increase my growth hormone.
My advice for anyone with plantar fasciitis is to immediately buy night boots, vitamin D & K, electrolytes and keep hydrated.

    • @deneszoltan2160

Aren't night boots stretching your calf? The exact opposite that Dr Berg is suggesting. I'm quite confused now...

    • @blisterbill8477
      @blisterbill8477 4 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Dénes Zoltán
      No.
The night boots keep your foot and calf at a 90 degree angle. Just as when you stand. The purpose of the boots is to prevent the Achilles heel/plantar fascia from healing in a shortened position.
Stretching isn’t the point of the night boots.
It’s just to maintain the same position of the foot as when you stand.
When you sleep, your foot tends to point down and the tendon/fascia heals in a shortened position. When you stand in the morning, it pulls the tendon/fascia tight and tears it. This causes new damage every morning.
The night boots simply prevent the repetitive morning damage and allow the healing to occur naturally.
The heel spurs that occur in the bottom front of the heel are actually calcification at the connection point of the fascia to the bone. It occurs over time when the fascia is repetitively damaged and healed short at that connection point.
My plantar fasciitis was only a part of my issues. It took several months for me to get well.
Afterward, when my plantar fasciitis would reoccur, I would IMMEDIATELY wear night boots for two or three nights. I also made sure I had not gotten low on electrolytes and was taking vitaminD,K. It would take care of the issue in a few days.
I haven’t had any problems in about 4 years now.
Some people do use night boots to overstretch the foot. That’s not helpful in my experience. Just use them to keep the foot at the same angle as when you stand.
My boots are rigid and do not have elastic positioning so they don’t stretch the calf. They are similar to a splint or cast.
Not very comfortable but the relief is worth it.

I had been bothered for years with plantar fasciitis. My doctor tried so many things over the years. Sometimes I would think it was gone and then in a few weeks or months it came back. I was always limping to the point that my shoes wore down unevenly. One day I saw a hard rubber ball with firm nodules in the sport shop. It was about twice as big as a golf ball. I would put the ball on the floor and while standing or sitting I pressed and rolled my heel and foot on it. It was very tender and I could only do it for a minute or so. I did it every day and soon was doing it with much more pressure and for up to 10 minutes. I gradually became aware that my pain was gone. It went away so slowly that when I realised it, I was surprised to find myself pain free. That was 3 years ago. I do the treatment every month or so. I have told people who have this inflammation and in all cases except one it has given the same results.

I just would like to share my experience with plantar facitis. Thank God I don't usually have to stand planting on my feet 8 hours/day. I did do it for about 10 days, @ my age it resulted in plantar fascitis, which is extremely painful, n really makes walking difficult. I fell twice while I had it. I 📞 my hijamist an asked her if she could help me. Thank God, she was able to. She did wet cupping on either side of both knees, n within an hour I felt relief. Thank God! The next day absolutely no pain, nothing. The cupping took less than 20 minutes. I've been having wet n dry cupping done for several health issues over the past 10 years, always leaving with relief of pain. So many Olympians now use wet n dry cupping;its extremely healthy n waaay cheaper than meds n all their horrible side effects, surgeries that often need to be redone. We are so blessed to have it as a safe treatment.

@Dr. Berg Your video verified my concerns that my doctor could not do well. He was talking about cutting something if it didn't heal. He did not make sense, and he gave me a painful boot, so I gave up, scared, confused, in pain, feeling ripped off, not trusting, and not healing. Now YOUR video plus the comments made me understand this problem and the healing process. I thought the night boot was preventing the healing, but now I understand, and now I'm going to see how long this takes to heal.

It's unbelievable how much they just keep prescribing things without appreciation for these therapies not working. In 2015 I had spur on my left heel and walk with a limp due to the pain. I seek treatment through traditional foot maasage twice a week for 6 months . Each massage takes 45 minutes . I did stretching toes exercise , that is pushing the toes backwards and hold it for 10 secs. Repeat stretching 10 to 15 times. Wear a proper shoe or sandal with thicker cushion. Try to lose some body weight. Do not carry heavy bag
I am completely healed of spur after 9 months of tteatment , without any medication and today is 2022 , fit and well. I am 66 years old.

Wide toe-box, zero drop (no heel) shoes are a must. They make a huge difference because even the heels in men's loafers distort your feet. I can't even imagine women's shoes. Try Softstar Primals.

    • @wildswan221
      @wildswan221 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Try the Softstar Primal line of shoes or vibram five fingers. Or barefoot, which is better. The spur is generated by the friction between your heel and the shoe, this is probably partly due to other stresses of your foot around the toe.
The spur is due to a problem, so the problem must be removed. Wishing you luck. Maybe a beach trip?

I’ve been suffering from plantar fasciitis forever. Finally I started wearing Birkenstock’s exclusively. Has helped tremendously

I work a desk job and have this issue on my left foot. I did it only 10 times and the pain went from a 6 to a ZERO. Thanks Dr Berg!!!

Stop drink gasificated drinks at 1st, any soda etc. Relax & take bath on legs ! There ar medical solution receipts at pain, but not for a long time. Cheers!

Temporary relief. You better rest your feet and buy better shoes.

He's right, I can vouch, I quit that stretching for my calves, and the pain has subsided.

Thankyou so much. I've been dealing with this problem for months and doing the wrong stretches until I watched the Lebanese version of The Doctors a few days ago which they were talking about PF amd they advise that to also avoid the stretches you talked about and to stretch the foot the same way you said we should stretch. Again thankyou. Your a great doctor to have in our lives.
