Here is another point to supplement this line of thinking.. I wondered why suddenly a couple years ago I started having extremely tight painful muscles. I had a history of some previous car accidents that gave me certain muscular pains and I treated weekly with chiropractic.. but chiropractic wasnt helping the tight muscles..
Fast forward to last year when my base fasting glucose level was creeping up 20 points.. Then I went modified keto to address the sugar and my next fasting glucose was back to normal.. there were other benefits also, not important here..
I dont have plantar- just general tight muscles.. so more keto!!

I was born with two club feet and had my ankles corrected and fused at birth. I'm 34 now, and I was experiencing severe arthritis in said ankles. I considered seeing a doctor about ankle replacement or re-fusing my ankles. I even considered amputation and prosthetic feet because the pain had become so unbearable. In November 2021 I went carnivore, and my inflammation, pain and arthritis are virtually nonexistent. I enjoy running again for the first time in YEARS. I don't foresee myself ever coming off an animal-based diet. I watched nearly every video of yours, Dr. Berry and thank you for the education and knowledge that has given me so much freedom. I have had PF for YEARS. Put a bottle of Vodka (any liquor) in the freezer, roll your foot on that. Stretching 3 full minutes when I get out of bed in the morning. I put my elbows on the mattress, stretch archilles tendon. Stand up and roll your foot on a hard ball. Tennis ball, golf ball, balls made for foot issues. Just started rolling the calf muscle as well with a short stick with rollers on it. It works. Rolling the ball on my foot cured my left foot in a few days. Right foot is a bit more trouble. I am also eating lazy keto for several years and have lost 15 pounds.

Your theory is correct… once I started counting TOTAL carbs and increased my consumption of meat, my plantar fasciitis disappeared. I used to get out of bed and have to wait a few minutes while standing before I could walk. And even so, I would limp (a lot) the whole way to the bathroom. I would have to take breaks throughout the day to sit down because of the pain. I would have trouble wearing certain types of shoes (boots were the worst) because of the extreme discomfort. Now I don’t even have to think about it!

As a hairdresser it was normal to be in my feet standing mostly in one spot for anywhere from 10-16 hours a day. Being 130lbs overweight didn't help. I knew nothing of keto or carnivore back then. I got plantar fasciitis in both feet and limping and using a cane incorrectly caused me to also develop a strain in my hip flexor. I thought I was going to die it hurt so bad. The shop where I worked closed down which turned out to be a blessing. With time on my hands I finally started taking time for myself and my health. I quit the gym, started keto, and learned about the PHD. Today I'm down 81lbs, 24 years late I'm finally at my pre pregnancy weight. I'm never hungry or hangry. 100 percent true! I have suffered from plantar fasciitis (and most recently heel spurs) for at least twenty years, not continuously but at different times in my life. I’ve been to doctors, had various treatments, had expensive custom orthotics made, you name it. Going low carb - especially eliminating wheat and sugar - makes the PF go away and also eliminates other inflammation-related aches and pains. I struggle to stay sugar and grain free but it is SO worth it, especially as I get older. Being active, mobile and on no prescription drugs is how I want to go into my older years.

    • @adrievanduijn8334

How long did it take for you noticing that the pain of PF decreased? And is that all by stopping with wheat and sugars?

    • @Slivings911
      @Slivings911 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@adrievanduijn8334 I really don’t know how long. I’ve been mostly pain free for a while now, but the PF has come and gone for 20 years. Diet truly does help keep inflammation down, though. I think if you eliminate all sugars and grains, and nightshades as well, you will notice improvement fairly soon, but it depends on the level of inflammation I suppose. Each person is different. It may take a while or you may notice improvement immediately. And yes, sugar in particular is the main culprit. But also wheat/grains, they just take a little longer to make their effect known. Good luck! I recommend this way of eating.

I want to add something that you didn't mention that helped me and you probably didn't mention it because it seems so intuitive. I was a 15 year plantar fasciitis sufferer with no break in between. I did have a job where I was on my feet for upwards of 12-14 hours a day so I always attributed the condition to that. Once I left that job my pain remained for another 9 years until this happened. I bought the correct size of shoe. My whole adult life I thought I was a size 14 shoe when in fact I was a size 13EEE. So when I was still growing and my shoes got tight I naturally went up a size when I just needed a wider shoe. When I started wearing the proper size my pain went away within a week and hasn't returned. Sorry for the long story but I if it helps someone then it's worth the read.

Keto absolutely works for PF!! I had PF 6 years ago and chalked it up to owning a restaurant and being on my feet for 12+ hours a day. I started Keto for weight loss and the PF went away but at the time I didn't associate it with being Keto. A couple years later I fell off the Keto wagon and within a year the PF came back. I tried everything short of steroid shots and nothing worked, then my husband remembered me being on Keto when it stopped last time so I started Keto again and sure enough within a week of being back on Keto the PF went away!! Im a firm believer in Keto for all inflammatory issues in the body.

I had it a couple of years ago, and it cleared up when I started a regimen of heavy weighted squats with a barbell (200 lbs). I assumed it was because the squats addressed a muscle weakness and likely forced it to stretch helping flexibility but it could also be that exercise, especially resistance training significantly helps with inflammation. But that is what worked for me, and its never come back.

This time around, after a week all pain had completely gone, it had been so painful I couldn't walk on it. I have been wearing my running shoes all day for support and icing my foot at night. Coincidentally, I began to cut sugar and carbs out of my diet to reduce weight and the body aches and inflammation I was feeling. In the past year and a half I’ve lost 50 lbs (from 230 to 180 lbs) and my Plantar Fasciitis is gone. Little did I know that it was my Keto diet, not the weight loss that had the most significant effect on my foot pain! I am 69 years old and a zero sugar and Keto/Low Carb advocate forever! This journey has been life changing! Thank you for all that you do!

I had terrible PF years ago. The doctor prescribed custom orthodics which worked to reduce the pain, but it never went away. What finally worked for me was foot massage... specifically Thai foot massage where they use a kind of "accu-pressure" which to be quite honest is 100% BS. However, one of the pressure points was exactly where the plantar facia attached to the heel. They would use a wooden dowel to apply that pressure. I had them put A LOT of pressure on that point and over time, my PF seemed to just go away. I went from limping and needed inserts to being able to walk barefoot on a tile floor. This was long before I went keto.

  • @sportysbusiness
    @sportysbusiness 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

From my experience, on top of eating correctly to minimise inflammation:
    1. Keep your feet supple and mobile. Roll the sole of your feet over a golf ball (a tennis ball is too big and soft). After time you should be able to put most of your body weight onto the ball and your foot will mould around it.
    2. Keep your feet strong. Use them! Do feet exercises whenever you are sat watching TV or on the computer and walk barefoot as much as possible.
    3. Wear shoes that strengthen, not weaken, your feet. All orthopaedic shoes/insoles weaken our feet and cushioned heels encourage us to walk incorrectly, we are not designed to heel strike when we walk. Pick zero drop shoes and work towards wearing barefoot shoes all the time.
    4. Grounding. Walk barefoot on the earth, this is also proven to reduce inflammation, not just in your feet.

I'm going to recommend the opposite for shoes. Think about it, we get healthier when eating what we're designed to eat. So doesn't it make sense to use our feet the way they're designed to be used? Barefoot? Our feet are NOT designed to be enclosed in orthopaedic shoes. If you need a gel heel, you are not walking correctly. Wearing shoes with a heel makes us heel strike and, because we have no padding on our heels, we need the cushioning. When you walk correctly, you mid foot strike and the foot spreads to absorb the load, your built in shock absorber. Walking barefoot (or in barefoot shoes) cured my knee, hip and feet issues and an animal based diet took away all pain. Everything we are 'sold' to help us usually does the opposite.

Check out "plantar fasciosis" videos on youtube by northwest foot and ankle. 20 years of heel pain, orthotics, cringy massage balls, ice, hobbling, crawling to the alarm clock in the morning, being put in a cast, etc got fixed in a week. It's a whole different perspective on the issue. #1 fix: change the shoes specifically in these ways - BIG TOE BOX, zero drop, no toe spring (up curl), flexible. Altras are my fave. Xero and Lems have the right idea too. Another good tip from the videos is to stretch the top of your foot instead of the fascia on the bottom. Good luck!

This 2nd bout started after being meat-based for 3yrs and finally going zero-carb carnivore in March of this year, 2023, but there was a trigger that I could point to this 2nd time; I sprinted full speed 4x from the back of a house to my work van to get my tools out of a sudden rain storm. Another factor is that in both cases, I had been working seven days a week screening pool enclosures after a hurricane. I wasn't getting enough rest. Also, that foot has a different arch than the other and I have always needed arch support for that foot only. So, my diet was good in both cases.

This is great information, thank you. 15 years ago I dealt with plantar fasciitis for roughly a year, I was incredibly active, I was at the gym every single day, I was extremely fit etc. This was part of it, the other part was I was wearing size 7 sneakers, many different pairs when in fact I should’ve been wearing a size 6 1/2. My foot had gotten a half size larger when I was pregnant and I just kept wearing that size when at some point my feet had gradually gone back to a 6 1/2. Once I realized this I bought properly fitting sneakers and also started using a whole body vibration plate regularly, which helps reduce inflammation. It completely went away. Obviously what I was eating was the problem and I completely believe and understand that but the wrong size shoe and the excessive exercise combine with my diet it seems is what created this in the first place. This does not apply to me now but it was very informative as always. Thank you.

Great video.. I've had PF for many years and what has helped me the most, by far, is that I now wear only really good quality shoes with strong arch support (The Walking Co.). The exercises that stretch the calf muscles are VERY helpful and keeping the inflammation down is necessary for flair-ups to heal. Glad to hear low carb diet helps!

I fixed PF, knee issues and hip pain by gradually changing the way I walk and run. Indeed, forefoot or midfoot walking and running barefoot changes how the load impacts the heels, knees, and hips are transferred to the muscles and ligaments that are meant to be able to handle these loads. Of course, these muscles are weak when a person has been wearing cushioned and ridged shoes that makes heel striking less painful but provides the condition for these intrinsic muscles to be weakened. I also very much agree that stopping the inflammation from a poor diet is critical. Going Keto was the first positive step for my PF but my knees were still pretty bad. Going barefoot is the other paradigm shift I experienced but it does take time to adapt to it. Grounding on grass and beach sand is great for everyone. Be careful if you have diabetic feet on rough or hard surfaces; I would transition using minimalist shoes.

About 15 years ago I was having a lot of trouble with pain in my feet. My podiatrist was giving me cortisone shots. But when I started the Atkins diet and I quit eating all the sugars and carbs in the interest of losing weight, the pain went away within a couple days. I was actually very surprised and I didn't expect it. I also lost all of my summertime hayfever allergies.

What a timely video for me ... I just received injection #2 in my foot for Plantar Fasciitis earlier today. 😵‍💫Yowza!!
It has been chronic in my right foot, and now my left foot has begun to hurt as well. Has caused sooooo much pain this past year!! 😩 I'm willing to try ANYTHING ... will change my diet TODAY and see if that helps! Could stand to lose 30 lbs or so.

I had PF for years and years. It then caused me to develop tendonitis in both of my Achilles tendon and I developed a heel spur on my right heel. My pediatrist told me he had done everything he could short of surgery. I then took it upon myself to figure out a way to help myself. I eventually found IF and Keto. I am proud to say that I healed it all and I can go barefoot with absolutely no pain. Thank you Dr. Berry for all that you do😊

I had this in both feet many years ago. Tried everything the doctor recommended. The only thing that seemed to help was rolling my foot on a cold tin can, but that gave less than an hour relief. Things wère pretty miserable for a couple of weeks. I don't remember how, but eventually I got the idea from some YT video about using yoga sun salutations. Thr presenter said sun salutations stretched the "posterior chain" and would eventually stretch it out. Well, I dunno if it was the salutations, time, or both combined, but within 3~4 days of doing this daily for maybe 5 repetitions once or twice a day, I could feel the pain start to subside. Within 2 weeks I was pain free and it's never come back. During this time I was still using the cold tin can as needed, After maybe 1 week of doing these sun salutations, I didn't need the tin can anymore. Now, I don't practice yoga. Sun salutations are the only yoga thing I know. I am open to the possibility that it may have been coincidence and time healed me, or maybe some combination of the two, but I would suggest daily sun salutations ~ 5 repetitions at least twice a day ~ as a possible method to help overcome pf. As far as I know, it worked for me.

You are so right doctor Berry (like always). In the fourth quarter of 2021 I went off the path of right eating and had too many carbs. My heel started hurting. Then in January I joined a carnivore challenge, and now my problem is almost gone. Thanks for reminding me how bad carbs are.

My husband "50" & I "48" had chronic PF for years. We both changed our diets to keto & lost over 60lbs each 2 1/2 years ago. We don't suffer from being obese, PF, RA, high BP, pre-diabetic, sleep apnea, chronic inflammation, brain fog, acid reflux, meniscus pain & are off all medications. We're both Ketovore & eating the "PHD" every day! We love our lifestyle of eating & feel amazing! Dr. Berry is telling the truth & we're proof.

I cured my chronic PF with diet. No processed carb, no processed sugar, no processed foods. I was better in two weeks, since then I have found Dr. Berry's other videos on diet and have switched to carnivore. I've had problems with my knees since 2004 when I dislocated my knee cap. My knees are also no longer an issue and I've lost 20lb in the first week. Thank you Dr. Berry.

When I got this for the first time, the exercises didn’t work. I ended up going to a foot surgeon here in Australia and she did a Botox injection instead of steroid injection. My pain went away within days and has not returned in over a year. Not all people will have extreme pain with the injection, she injected the long needle under the muscle and I felt nothing. She is the only surgeon in Australia that uses Botox for plantar fasciitis, she said she got the idea from America and decided to give it a try. Glad she did.

I limped around with PF for a couple of years until I found a great TH-cam video which basically instructed me to buy a softball & roll my foot over the baseball putting as much pressure as I could stand on my foot. Thank God for that softball. It relieved the problem &:the pain. I have since gone to a Keto diet & intermittent fasting. I eat once a day only.

I had PF once that wouldn't go away for over a year and rolling my foot on a thick wood dowel every evening took are of it within a month. Hasn't come back since. I do have a high arch, but I was glad to hear Dr Berry talk about how it is a risk, but not a cause. I feel like my high arch has allowed me to be back pain free for 60 years.

Hi Doc. I can back you up on this video. Was keto for 2.5 years. No PF, no Asthma, no migraines etc. all stuff I had before keto…covid messed me up. I’ve been eating SAD for almost 2 years now and PF has come back with a vengeance…did 2 steroid shots…didn’t even touch the pain. Did laser therapy…didn’t work. Did PRP…positive side it worked, mostly for the constant pain. However…if I do too much walking (I’m very active on 6 acres), I am unable to walk later in the day without horrible pain. Also, the PRP injection pain was ten times worse than a steroid shot and lasted for days. I was literally crippled from it. I’ve graduated to using diabetic shoes for comfort and relief and also have a handicap placard to minimize walking. This video just helped motivate me to go back to what I know works for a myriad of problems…thanks for the encouragement….keep up the positive guidance…you’re the best!

I’m a teacher (cement floors) and used to suffer from this all the time. My first defense was steroid shots. They always gave me some relief after the initial pain. I also got some inserts made to fit into my shoes which made a big difference.
Later, I switched to a Paleo diet to reverse ulcerative colitis, ADHD, depression and anxiety. Oddly the pf didn’t leave. But, when I took eggs and nuts out of my diet, it left for good. I haven’t had a problem for 5 years.
