My 91 has 370,000 miles (not kilometers) with the original transmission, engine, and rear diff. They key: fresh, high quality fluids, on a religious schedule. Still passes California emissions every 2 years.
@@CartuneNZ would you happen to show what to do with the coolant ports on 1st gen 1uz ? i am thinking of getting a hose the a bolt and blocking the 3 ports but i am not 100% if this is the right way to do it any reconsiderationss?
@@mob187eastside th-cam.com/video/ZB40HpvCOf0/w-d-xo.html this might be a good start if you haven't already seen it. I blank quite a few coolant lines. This series doesnt really show it. Cheers Kelvin
I have a 98 ls400 and have discovered a oil leak around the front passenger side. I wish I had your expertise but now am going to have someone look at it. I hope it all goes well because I dont want to sell it.
What's your thoughts on the need for a transmission cooler for Soarer/SC's. I hear a lot of guys talking about the transmissions dying from too much heat.
Standard they have the trans cooler in the bottom of the radiator which work well for normal driving. Plenty of oil changes in the trans is the first maintenance, with this one changed every 20000km. If increasing load on a transmission like driving hard, skids , towing, 4x4ing or excessively hot climate then an external transmission cooler is a great idea. Cheers Kelvin
Hey kelvin, if I have this same transmission and it started leaking right from where the line pressure cable goes into the transmission , does it usually leak from there? Should I go to the wrecking yard are take another one , or does that bolt get loose? Or is there something like an o-ring on the inside of the housing ? Please tell me ! Thank you !
Hello. There is an o-ring on the cable part number 9030109012. Otherwise sometimes the cable fails around the join between the cable and the plastic holder. Flick the pan off and remove the cable to check. Hopefully its just the o-ring. Cheers Kelvin.
CartuneNZ okay thank you ! Randomly it just started leaking from there (badly) and it leaked all my fluid out making it slip. When I parked the car I notice when I start the car the transmission starts making a whine noise (probably from low fluid) but when I put some fluid in to check where the leak was coming from it didn’t start leaking until I pressed the gas , then the whine went away and the fluid started coming right from that spot . I just ordered the o-ring. So I have to take the pan off to change the o-ring or do I loosen that bolt on the housing for the cable ? It was dark last night when I was out there , today I’m going to inspect that housing I may have just cracked it trying to pull the cable behind the engine into the bay when I was putting the trans in
To replace the o-ring it has to slip over the cable, to do this the cable needs to be removed so pan off. If the cable has been stretched they do pull the outter from the plastic end fitting which can also cause a leak. Inspection is required. Cheers Kelvin
CartuneNZ hey kelvin , I just went out there the other day and looked I think it is the second one you said where it came apart from the housing . I’m sure you should not be able to pull the cable at the top and it move , showing the cable . And the bolt looking thing on the housing is not right on it like it shows in your video . So I was wondering if you would be able to locate a part number or a link to where I can go buy the whole cable and housing? Or do you think that the line pressure cable on the 1st gen ls400 tranny and the 2nd gen are the same ? If so I can just pull from wrecking yard .
Very educational, Kelvin. You're truly a 1UZ-FE guru!

Well done. Its amazing what regular fluid changes do to the life of a vehicle. Cheers Kelvin
this video seris is awesome i am currenty doing all the seals and gaskets and egr delete on my sc400 this is very very good info
Thanks for the compliment. Theres lots to this one coming including egr off. Its taken me a while to edit but its all done now. Cheers Kelvin

A clean 1UZFE is pretty motor. They did use a lot of aluminum.
Yep. I like the clean aluminum look, well once I removed all the dirt off this one anyway. Cheers Kelvin

Fortunately they are reasonably straightforward with a bit of experience. Not always so cheap though. Good luck sorting yours. Cheers Kelvin
CartuneNZ Thank you sir !
Turns out it was a power steering hose
