I have a 91 ls400 coach And it stopped running a bit ago. I could never drive it at night due to having to use the headlights cause the car would turn off if i used too much electricity any idea what the problem could be? I also replaced the battery and it wont turn over just clicks
There are a few things it could be. First thing is the alternator. How to check it. Get the engine running at idle and put a multi meter on the battery terminals the battery should read up to 14volts if the alternator is charging properly. If it's below 13 then the alternator needs replaced or rebuilt. Make sure all contacts are clean. Use wire brush. Second would be to check the coils and make sure there not loose at any connection or corroded in anyway.
If it clicks when you try to start it. Does it sound like a machine gun? Or does it just do one single click? If one single click is present then it's your starter solenoid. Which is located on the starter itself. Pain in the ass to change cause the intake has to be removed. I'm doing mine in a month or so due to my bendix not retracting fast enough. I also replaced the starter in my other ls400 and it took me total 3 days. One day for tear down one day for cleaning everything up and painting what I wanted to paint then one day to get it back together. One trick to get it running when the solenoid is fucked is to rapid fire the key. What I mean is when the key is on and your about to start it click it over to the start position over and over very fast but be ready when it catches and starts to turn over. It may take a few seconds of turning the engine over at this point due to pumping the fuel rail up when rapid firing the key. If your still having problems I'll post a video for you
Goldenrod636 yes they do. Inside the housing you will notice 2 bulbs. One is a 194 wedge bulb which you can replace with an led. The other bulb is called a map light it only comes on when the button is pushed. If your pillar lights don't come on when doors are open then your bulbs are probably burnt out.
Hey man would love to see what your LS looks like. The intake filter was done by using 1/4 aluminum plate and 4" aluminum tub. You mark the plate with the tube and cut the circle out, then weld or seal in anyway the tube to the plate. Using the original intake box you can mark the 4 mounting holes and then drill them and your done. Hook the filter up to the end of the pipe and you'll get massive sound from it at high rpm. You can also build a box and seal the filter from the hot engine air. Pretty simple. They sell adapters that just bolt on which is easier but I make my own shit.
+Tripp Roeun sounds good man I'm here if you need info. My cars changed a lot since that video it's time for an updated one. I've rebuilt the entire car except the trunk lol working on that now
Hi, I have a 90 Ls 400 had with me from California bought here in Ontario, love it no problems just wanting to know what turbos to get and how to install. Let me know.Thx
Don't install any turbos lol not unless your 26 year old car has a new motor. It's too much for an old motor. Block can handle it but head gasket will pop for sure. Buy an intake set up for it and do a nice exhaust save your money and stay away from turbos for the first gen LS. Just my opinion. Where are you living in Ontario? Not to many of these cars in my area
The motor is fine, I have it park in winter since moving here 6 years ago. I only start it during spring through fall but not my primary car. The motor is strong. I am near Ottawa.
+Haya shin mim Che I used to live in calabogie near ottawa. So what I'm trying to say is a turbo will most likely blow your stock gaskets like the head gasket and possibly others. For a 25 year old car the last thing you want to do is pressurize the intake unless you are able to fix a head gasket easily. Just such an old car the old gaskets won't handle the pressure. Make a video and post it with your LS I would love to see it man.
Where would I find the speed sensor on a 1991 Lexus LS400

Help would be appreciated with this: do the rear pillar lights in the backseat next to the window turn on when the doors are opened?
