Yep. Lots of fun doing them over here , being on a farm we are seeing them on tractors lots too. I'm sticking with my uz stuff. There are better ways of doing it like using controlled cam overlap like VVti is giving good positive effects. How many OEM pieces can you get that help with EGR removal? Intake, throttle body, and the rear cross over and that would be all the holes gone? Gonna be running headers on my car so that’s the exhaust hole taken care of.
Brilliant video Kelvin, perfect for what I need. Im swapping my 96 Euro LS400 engine to a 91 JDM SC400 engine but keeping the 96 management and loom. Interested to know what resister(s) I'll need and where to fit them.
The later loom and ecu is much better. Ive got a video coming of swapping looms. Around 10k resistors (from memory) should be close. Confirm by checking your motor windings. Cheers

So I could delete the egr system on my 1996 crown majesta v8 , if it were to throw codes , what could I do to ensure the code stays off ? Bridge the egr plus or ?
I left my egr valve into the 6 port connector and was able to secure it. So when my engine is cold it won’t throw a code, however once it’s hot it throws code 71(Egr malfunction) every time.
Do you have a link to a video about the wiring or a little more detail on what to block off/delete? I just recently bought a 90 ls400 for 400$ and during the process of replacing the starter and whole lotta other things i had to bend the top of the egr exhaust and when i put the manifold back on the crossover pipe for the fuel rail is in the way of the egr pipe and the manifold.

thank you so much. why are there so many articles saying DO NOT DELETE THE EGR VALVE ahhaa the majority of the things i read say it helps shrink you combustion chamber, but why would that help anything?
The EGR feeds dirty exhaust gases back into the engine which reduces the quality of the burn which drops the combustion temps , reducing the Oxides of Nitrogen. Cheers
i put an egr block off plate on my 1st gen ls400 from 1990, now i am dealing with feul issues but i am in the middle of fixing that. but with me putting a block off plate do i need to remove the egr module like you did and put the same plat you put on there

Thank you for the video. So, is it possible to remove EGR by just removing the valve and vacuum modulator and plugging up those 2 hoses? Aside from the PCV system, could you blank over the EGR valve gasket? Just wondering if the EGR pipe behind the motor needs removed for those that can't pull the engine. Is that Celsior plate to block the EGR valve and retain PCV functionality? I greatly appreciate it!!
Hello. when removing the egr I always fit the celsior PCV plate to make it look neat and tidy. Each different ecu requires different ways of blocking the rest. personally I dont like extra crap left of the engine so it all comes off and is done correctly when i do it. cheers Kelvin
Hell yeah you can. All I did was plug the passage holes in the intake with freeze plugs. In my neighborhood we only have visual inspection, have to get crafty.
Not at this point. EGR aren't common over here in NZ and I sort of cheated with this one fitting the celsior ecu , which is non egr. I do have plans as I have a OBD2 ecu sitting in my test stock atm. Might also address the OBD2 non vvti transmission codes too. Cheers Kelvin

I think the car also has to pass the emissions test , and some require pluggjng in the obd2 tool, which non vvti celsior dont have. Not really looked into it further.
hey mate, my 94 has tons of power when cold but once warm it wont even break traction. replaced tps, speed sensor, fuel filter... curious if you know anythin about this issue. when cold the car cranks quickly when warm it cranks much slower. new battery starter and alternator aswell

Hey i have a question if you dont mind. My venom auto block offs did not let me retain pcv. I plan to run a vented catch can for the pcv system. Is this fine on stock ecu?
Hello Daniel. Personally I always fit the PCV system on stock ECU. The breather system will work with a catch can provided you set the system up correctly, Dont just stick a catchcan attached to the PCV valve , that isnt correctly. The PCV system left in place has a few advantages for performance and overall engine operation. Cheers Kelvin

Hello. I find removing the manifold the best, check back of the valves too. I clean the manifold with degreaser which eats carbon well. Also products like seafoam (we have similar products here) are sometimes good but nothing beats taking it off and confirming its spotless. Cheers Kelvin

Dude. I love your videos but I don't think you realize that in the United States where I live I can't have any check engine lights on or it's an automatic fail. The testing machine hooks right up to the OBDII port and I'm guesssing an EGR removal would definetly set off a check engine light.
I know about the US emission testing via the OBD2 port. Done correctly the EGR can be removed and no fault code set. I dont however recommend this where EGR is a legal requirement. Check lights however are no issue when done correctly.

Hey random question CartuneNZ can a faulty egr cause the 1uz to completely shutoff while driving, when I say completely shutoff I mean like someone hit a kill switch on the engine, engine sounded fine and was running great next second completely dead and if you try to crank the engine it will sorta start up with a rough idle then die kinda like the same way in your other video talking about the lexus codes p1300 and p1305. I've already replaced the coil ignition pack and it didn't fix the issue :( as always love your video man very informative
Not only does my LS400 still have its egr, it's illegal to remove it here in California. My particular egr is still vacuum operated via vacuum control valve. I clean the egr passages once every 2 years right before emissions test time. So far, still pass the sniffer test. Edit: my car has California emissions so deleting the egr will trigger a code 71. There is a gas temperature sensor in the housing that detects exhaust gas heat. No heat, no egr function, = code 71.
Yep. California rules are strict. Good on you for understanding the EGR needs regular maintenance. We are seeing lots of issue with late diesels and our crap diesel. Most of the 1uz we see are JDM so no egr and it's not something I have to deal with much fortunately. Resistors can be used to sort exhaust temp sensor and the motor windings with this system. Due to the stuffed ECU the JDM ecu took care of all that for me. Interestingly both this engine and another EGR equipped engine had noticable carbon build up on the back of #2 inlet valves. One the whole EGR was really bad. Ive talked with mates and not all seem to have this build up. Cheers Kelvin.
@@CartuneNZ Fast forward to 2021 and now all of the higher mileage Toyota Priuses are blowing up from clogged egr coolers/systems. On the bright side the remedy is to either clean it or just unplug the electrical connection from the egr solenoid and go without it and the addition of a p0403. Damn egr.
UPDATE: Egr deleted. Very pleased with results. Performance feels like it has increased like you can feel the difference. No check engine light 1996 obd2 American lexus sc400 1uzfe.

What if I were just to take off the top EGR pipe (from EGR Manifold to intake plenum)?

Nope. Haven't had another job come in for a EGR blank off as EGR are not fitted to many of the JDM cars which we see most of the time. Cheers Kelvin

I show how I do it and this is my recommended way of removing the EGR. Much easier without these parts in the engine bay. Cheers Kelvin
On 1996 obd2 what kind of resistor would I need to bypass the check engine light when deleting the egr system? Where should it be installed?
If its the stepper motor type there is more involved than just a resistor

This car is a ucf20 LS400, running a gen 2 or series 2 engine with the stepper motor type egr system. Celsior dont normally have egr.

I removed all the egr components and added a jdm pcv plate to blank it. Job done. Easy as. Maybe see the intake manifold back on video to see it.

Yes, I've seen it lots, often theres an issue with ignition system, fuel supply, afm or ecu. Proper diagnosis is the key to finding the issue

I would suggest a faulty EGR is unlikely to shut a car down like the key has been turned off. Cheers Kelvin
