Everything's Alright, From Jesus Christ Superstar (2012): Director Laurence Connor presents this contemporary re-imagining of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's legendary rock musical Jesus Christ Superstar.
The world renowned phenomenon portrays the story of the last seven days of Christ leading up to his crucifixion as seen through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. It's funny that mary never really talks to judas at all during the whole musical even though he always yells at her

Women didn't speak to men back then unless spoken to and judas ask her questions as much as he is pointing out something to jesus

Well I think he's more screaming at Jesus and getting peeved at his friend.
Where as, his voice is kind of soft with Mary. He's annoyed she's using expensive stuff and they could sell it and help the poor.

I was apprehensive to watcha different version than I was used to, but this cast just works so beautifully together. Her voice is melodic and soothing, I loved this scene right away.
I'm not surprised Mel C did a great job on this. She's an absolutely phenomenal vocalist.
If you think about it, Judas might just be jealous. In the song 'Heaven on their minds' he complains about Jesus buying too much into the story of being a messiah, but in this song he's criticizing Mary for using expensive oils to care for Jesus; ironically forgetting how human Jesus is, and how exhausted he must be addressing all his followers who clamor to him.
no, not really. If you think of this in secular terms; the original goal was liberation for jews from roman domination. Therefore feeding the needy was a more pressing matter; for humanitarian reasons, along with garnering support for their movement. Wasting resources on an individuals comfort would be no better than a Caesars comforts.
What a fantastic production! Someone needs to plan a 10 year reunion tour with this cast. (And bring it to the USA since the 2014 arena tour was canceled here!)

I feel like this realization amidst the unknown reads both in her voice and especially in the very the final nuanced change in her confusion/shock/acceptance of The Truth/peace all displayed masterfully within a mere shift of expression at the finale of her “I don’t know how to love Him.” solo after this scene. (Somewhere on TH-cam)

I love how Jesus Christ Superstar depicts Jesus as a real human being who really suffers trying to bring the truth to a place and time ruled by oppression fear and godlessness, not so much different from our own
JCS definitely catered to the "fully human" aspect of Jesus. This has always been my favorite theatrical portrayal of Jesus. Many people criticized JCS because they thought it was disrespectful (even blasphemous) to Jesus Christ, and would weaken the faith of believers. But my faith has always been renewed when I see or hear songs from the musical.

It was not a particularly Godless time. Many Gods were available. Many of the Roman Legionnaires were Mithraic initiates. There were messianic figures in abundance among the Jewish people at the time. Basically there were more Gods and Faithful around then than have been for a thousand years.

Fiction. Did you see how quickly they packed up the "pop-out tents" at the end? I bought one of those for a camping trip a couple of years ago - they pop out in quite literally a second into shape but it takes a DEGREE in 3 dimensional mathematics to get one of those back into the "original flat circular space as originally designed".... ;)

I’ve seen JCS for the first time in 1978 I think. I was 20 years old and attended to the movie version by Norman Jewison. I was stunned like everyone here. This is the best song of the opera because it joias the three main characters and the thrilling emotions it brings is outstanding.

Webber's version plays into the smear campaign of Mary Magdalene that's been around since the Middle Ages. The idea that she was a reformed prostitute came about thanks to an Easter sermon by Pope Gregory the Great. Nowhere in the Bible does it say she was a prostitute. If anything, it indicates that she and other female disciples were rather well-off, as they "provided for Jesus out of their own resources". As to what exactly the relationship between Jesus and Mary Magdalene was, that's left up to speculation (for now, at least), but personally, I think they were more than just teacher and disciple.
The sensual relationship between Jesus and Mary in this version is disturbing, probably because the version of Jesus I was taught in church was an asexual Jesus. In this performance, Mary doesn't simply have an unrequited crush on the charismatic son of God. Here, her attraction appears echoed in his response to her.Jesus responds physically to her ministrations and her touch and he walks off the stage with his arm around her.

Loved it ❤️ I was only about 12 when I saw this musical at a local High School and I was mesmerised and I was blown away. It will always be my top one. Andrew Lloyd Webber you are a genius to create such a touching depiction in songs which will last forever. 🙏🏼

Saw this in Liverpool Arena and it was an incredible production. A slightly rough around the edges rock opera - I still wish they’d’ve released the cast recording, Melanie C’s Mary packs a real punch!

Saw the live arena version in Melbourne several years ago and thought it was great but I have to say I got so much more from watching this again with the Closed Captions switched on so I could follow the words. I found a whole new level of appreciation that I didn't have before. Thoroughly brilliant!!

I have just played the 1970 recording side 1 & 2 . Will play 3 & 4 tomorrow. I our suburb in South Africa Alberton we play music each evening . Our neighbour plays live piano for 30 minutes each evening. In my sons suburb all the emergency staff have driven through the streets with sirens , lights flashing people out to cheer and clap . This to show support. Here people are taking lock down seriously. God Bless South Africa & The World.
