Top mount power button is not good because when it rains, it could kill the drone.

Hi Russ, I agree, range test aren't important but if Tesla says their electric cars will go 500 miles between charges
we want proof. If DJI says mini 3 will go 10 miles we want proof. A youtuber named Fly Zone has listed you as an influencer not willing to test its range out. Please use a spotter and do a range test for us..

    • @51Drones
      @51Drones  2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

@@alienpixelgaming3803 Range tests are very illegal as per the FAA in the U.S. Flying a drone beyond where you can see it in the sky is strictly forbidden. Do I fly beyond? Of course, everyone does, but putting it on TH-cam is asking for an immediate email from the FAA and a possible fine. I'm not willing to put my business at risk to appease others. A spotter is not legal either. The verbiage explicitly states that the spotter MUST be in immediate proximity of the pilot in command. There's no getting around it. Other TH-camrs will do a true range test, I guarantee it. Dustin Dunhill does one with every drone in Hawaii. Watch his channel if you want to see a real range test. The FAA has ignored range tests up to this point, but I don't plan to be the first one to post evidence online.

As a real pilot, you'll probably feel quite "underwhelmed" because of just how easy it is to control these modern drones. The tech made it as easy as in a video game, I'm definitely not complaining but don't expect to need any critical skills on the joysticks ;)

6:47 Actually, overheating is to be expected when the drone is not flying. The cooling system is relying on the propellers to be spinning in order to get the proper cooling it requires. Regarding shooting in 4K60 on a hot day, I flew continuously and recorded everything until all my 3 batteries were empty and there have been no overheating warnings or anything, so I'm guessing it's fine.
Thanks for taking the time and making this video!

Prop arms are to accommodate the larger props, and to keep the props out of the camera view when the camera is looking up 60 degrees. The larger props allow for a lower RPM to hover, which makes it quieter, and more efficient. My old 2015 Yuneec Typhoon had huge 11" props, also one of the quietest drones I've flown because of the slower prop speed.

Just got mine from amazon with the nicer controller. My first ever "real" drone.. I'm used to buying the 100$ drones that automatically fly into a wall and shatter like glass. I feel like a pro with this drone.. so from a starters perspective, this is a good choice. I did turn the side to side motion off and object avoidance on. Its a very windy day and the drone was able to stay quite still. Each battery lasted me about 25 minutes for the drone. Neighborhood cats do not approve. Looking forward to flying it again tomorrow, just wish I had more batteries.

In a way, sideways obstacle tracking would be more useful than forwards. It’s easiest to avoid things going forwards as you can see them, and the most effect drone shots are usually sideways, backwards or upwards movements.

    • @YFZriderdude15
      @YFZriderdude15 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Not when the drone is tracking you as you are, say, biking. It needs front obstacle sensors to know when to swerve around trees. Hell, that's the only reason I even want a drone with obstacle sensors.

My own Mini Pro 3 arrived via UPS this very morning. I’m just stunned at how small it is, and how light. My wife (who also flies) and I decided to order this little drone as soon as it was announced because the specs looked so impressive. DJI has always pretty much told the truth about their products, so we took a chance on it before seeing anyones reviews. Looks like we made the right choice. I would absolutely love a quickshot mode like rotate around an object where it will rotate a little longer. It would be nice to be able to edit rotations around objects into endless loops without it speeding up and slowing down at the loop point. In other words; it would be nice if you could create a loop point where the speed is constant.

Great video BTW. I item I would like to see is the ability to record /save flight patterns and fly them over and over by just picking a past flight from a saved list. That way it would be easy for us to fly a certain pattern over and over. I know this can happen with 3rd party, but we should easily be able to do that via the logs that are kept for each flight.

One of the thing DJI could improve and make their interface even more convenient and fun to work with would be to enhance their programming features for waypoints. Adding 3 key elements: GPS coordinates, point recording while flying and allowing to setup fly altitude lower than 2m.
Ideally, this could be done on the remote and on a computer through the personal DJI account.
I am struggling with few requests asking to fly with different constraints and such feature would help tremendously if available.

If/when DJI releases an SDK there is the possibility for third party apps to do this: "Litchi" is one that has some of what you're asking for on other DJI platforms, but the dev is waiting for DJI to release an SDK
      "Litchi is compatible with: Mini 2, Mini SE, Air 2S(*), Mavic Mini 1, Mavic Air 2, Mavic 2 (Zoom/Pro), Mavic (Air/Pro), Phantom 4 (Standard/Advanced/Pro/ProV2), Phantom 3 (Standard/4K/Advanced/Professional), Inspire 1 (X3/Z3/Pro/RAW), Inspire 2 and Spark."
"Litchi is *NOT* compatible with Mini 3 Pro and Mavic 3 as DJI has not released a developer SDK for these drone models yet"

73 yrs old and very brand-new to the drone world. Was a military and civilian helicopter pilot, and this is as close to flying again that I can afford. The more videos watched, the more it seems it's learning how to be a 'PHOTOGRAPHER-while-flying'. Look forward to watching more videos about the MINI 3 PRO. Thank you.

DJI should try a helix quick shot that ends with the camera to lose focus on the subject and do a background reveal.

Thank you for your video, very comprehensive. I'm considering this drone for the fact that it's sub 250 grams and yet still has some amazing qualities (considering its size, of course). That said, I'm a bit confused about the geozone. I'm in Canada, and the bottom line here is that a micro drone is "allowed" to fly pretty much anywhere, but for emergencies (forest fire zones etc.), and still not allowed to fly in close proximity to a military base. Barring those few restrictions, you "can" (whether you "should" or not is really THE question!) legally fly almost anywhere. So, why does DJI enforce geozones on a drone that really doesn't have any issues with legal flight? I realize you aren't DJI and may not know the answer, but I'd appreciate your thoughts on this regardless. It makes no sense to me. It defeats the purpose (in my mind) of having a sub 250 gr drone.

The 3DR Solo drone had a quick shot called Zipline. If I remember correctly, you could set the zip line vertical, horizontal, all varying degrees of angles, and vary the speed at which the drone ran along the line, and it would keep the subject in frame, even if it was moving. Would like to see DJI add something like that.

I bought a cheap video drone several years back and I was very limited on my selection. I don't own a cell phone of any kind and almost all drones required one for the controller. So, I purchased the best one with a built in screen on the controller. Now I see that there's a wider variety of controllers with built in screens. So, I'm considering buying one again after seeing this. Thanks!

I realise that this video is about 1 year old, as a Professional Wildlife photographer living in England (Mainly stills but some video) I have just purchased my first DJI Mini 3 Pro and your video was not only informative but also a very good watch. I will only be using the drone to highlight habitats for wildlife here in the UK but I still found your video extremely interesting, who knows, I may even take up drone flying as a hobby. Thanks again, and stay well. Regards from across the pond :-)

Great info, waiting for mine to come in..............do have a clarification question or more like an "am I correct" query............when I get my Mini 3 Pro I should: 1) register it , 2) I can fly with RID off when using the standard battery (registered or not) and, 3) when flying with the extended battery (the Plus one, I am getting one with the Store Day sale free with the Fly More Kit) I need to have RID on? As for a new feature...........would love for DJI to add Waypoint missions like those available through Litchi, not just hyperlapse waypoints. Hopefully, Litchi will add the Mini 3 Pro to their supported aircraft now that DJI released the SDK for it.

Hey Russ! Just getting around to watch this video. You mentioned the Quick Shots/ Master Shots are getting old. I agree. I have a suggestion. How about a “Fly By” or “Buzzing “? You set the distance away from the path. You set the distance of the start/end points . You also set the speed. The drone is focused (tracked) on you while flying towards you. As soon as the drone passes you, it rotates and focuses (tracked) on you as it flys away from you. Wouldn’t that be cool. Just like Maverick.

After doing some research on drones for the past few weeks and joining several groups, asking questions on drones for beginners, a few people said the dji mini 2 would be a good starter drone given my budget I mentioned in the messages, one person piped in saying if I could stretch my budget a bit he recommended the dji mini 3 pro and a couple of others piped in with the same. I just ordered the mini 3 today and it will arrive on Wednesday. I've taken the TRUST test and have certificate, I'm considering testing for the part 107 and know it's going to take some time to study up for that. This was a very informative video, thank you for putting all this information together.

6:39 yes it gets hot when not used/fly and when you do software upgrade it gets very hot as the speed of the data transfer is very fast. Once you start fly it cools down quickly.

I bought one. It's my second drone. My first was a dji phantom 3. They are both amazing. I gave my phantom 3 to a friend of mine a couple years ago so it's kind of hard to compare the two. I bought the mini pro 3 because it was the least expensive model that best buy had in stock. The feature I like most is the display screen is part of the controller so you don't have to use your phone. It's also one less thing that you have to recharge. And the controllers battery lasts so long that you really only have to worry about charging the drone. I like to hot glue a stick to mine and fly around the neighborhood playing Ding, dong, ditch. I assume that everyone knows what that is but if you don't it's simply ringing people's door bell then running away. .

I'm a new subscriber but I wanted to say a few things. I've never flown a drone before BUT, I've shot semi-pro photography for years. I've won money and several awards for my work. About 3 years ago, I began to look closely at drones because I wanted to take my work to a whole new level. Over this time, I've found several drones that caught my eye but none that impressed me enough to spend money on them until the Nano+ came out. But then, THIS drone came out and has so far beaten the Nano+ which I have NOT bought yet. But, I am seriously considering buying this mini 3 pro and buying the larger cinematic drone for $14k for a new business that I'm launching in the next 60 days. Thank you for your review of this drone. I've found it quite thorough and I look forward to your future work.

  • @Luggruff

The 250 gram thing is a thing of the past in Europe. You will need a license to fly it if it can record video or pictures. In some countries you can just check NOTAM yourself, but others require you to apply and get approved for every flight.

As far as quick shots, typically the subject with these is standing still or moving minimally. I'd like to see some quick shots based on GPS anchors, where the drone starts its quick shot from a distance and then comes in to the subject (the GPS anchor first, and then perhaps locks onto a predefined subject that it can "find" again like it did with you as you walked behind the trees) and then pans or circles around the subject or anchor point. I think an "object memory" or "GPS Anchor" quick shot set would be a very powerful feature.

As always you did an excellent job and I know I just saw this video and you did it over a year ago. I've used mine since before you did this and the biggest thing I noticed was that it is sooooooooooo quiet. I have bunches of video's of deer that I was able to get very close without them getting upset at all. I've gotten to within 6 feet because after awhile they got so used to it they weren't afraid. I've gotten very close to entire flocks of wild turkeys and my followers on my Facebook page just love all the wildlife things I've done. Mini 3 Pro is my goto for Pennsylvania wildlife. Thanks for you expertise and the way you get into the products you deal with.

First of all- thorough, yet easily digestible video. Thank you. But honestly, I most appreciated when you came to the point of the range test and brought up how conducting that would obviously necessitate breaking the LOS regulation. I am by nature, kind of a rule breaker, a yahoo, a “freedom” seeker. But the big takeaway of my actual classroom Part 107 test prep course (the instructor also holds a private pilot license with instrument and multi engine rating) is how to fully appreciate and actualize the proper pilot mindset. Responsibility, humility, excellence. Dropping the ego and following the regulations even though you probably won’t get caught seems to be the biggest hurdle to the recent convergence of healthy drone regulation and embedded electronic nanny tech. So, I respect your attitude and therefore subbed.

The long arms add stability like pontoons on an outrigger. It also makes room for longer props which are quieter because of the subsonic speed. You mentioned that the drone felt especially light. The reduced weight requires less air for lift. Les air makes less noise and Lee's noise.

QUESTIONS...Thank you for making drone piloting easier for beginners. I have a Mini 3 Pro and have been practicing for a trip to New Mexico. I have the B4UFLY mobile app and have checked out places where I would like to capture some aerial images. My FIRST question is: Can I rely on the app for accurate information? If it says "Clear for Takeoff", is it really okay to fly there? AND Can I take off and land in an appropriate area but fly over an area that does not allow take offs and landings as long as the drone is in sight?
