@@RavensRants I think the best example of a bondsmith’s power was when Dalinar met Ishar and the stormfather was afraid because Ishar was a bondsmith “unchained”. Later Ishar even reveals he can see the bonds that people have, such as Dalinar’s connection to the stormfather and the connection Odium has with Dalinar. He almost destroys these bonds before getting interrupted. This shows that bondsmiths have the ability to directly meddle with the affairs of the shards. He could directly undo the pathway Odium had with a human. I see this as a way of ranking bondsmiths lower (yet not much lower) in power than the shards. Ordinary humans stand absolutely no chance at even touching a shard’s power and yet these bondsmiths can destroy it with a simple flick of the wrist.
@@WraithLK the think is Ishar is unchained I don’t think a normal bondsmith can do that as they will be limited by their Spren. Plus, I don’t think ishar could actually cut the connection from shards (I think he can attempt to but if odium is aware would not be able to as he would still need enough investiture to overpower a shard’s, which is quite frankly not feasible). This is more of an opinion.
Finally it all makes sense. Picking up on all these details while reading the books between long periods of time makes all this information fuzzy in my head. Thank you.
Favorite order is definitely the Edgedancers, their surges are very interesting and their ideals, focusing on empathizing and serving everyone is fascinating. Also removing friction from your body completely? Awesome.
I'm about to start Stormlight book 1 so I don't have a lot of context, but edgedancers were also my favorites. We need more empathetic people in this world, we need even more empathetic people that can beat the breaks off someone for acting like a tyrant. Violence doesn't solve anything... but sometimes it does.
There's so much spoiler free content out there! This community is so cool! I am about 1/4 of the way through the first audiobook, and it's so hard to get it all straight in my head. Content like this is so helpful for me. Thanks for making it!
Just took the Knight Radiant quiz and I ended up with the Willshapers. After watching your video, I'm really loving how the order seems, though my favourite radiants so far are the Windrunners. Keep up the great work!
I love the Willshaper's powers in a way that I don't think I've felt for anyone except the Edgedancers so far. I think it's because most Radiants have powers that generally let them do two very different things, or let them do one thing really well. While the first groups powers are often still very complimentary they don't mesh the same way the Willshapers and Edgedancers do (at least in my mind). There's also how that specific combination of powers fits that order's oaths so very well. Let me try to explain. Edgedancers oaths are about caring for the common people. Their powers let them 1. heal and 2. move faster so they can get to people in need of healing sooner. Put these guys in Shardplate, and you've pretty much got the best combat medics imaginable. Willshapers meanwhile are all about freedom. And what better way to exert your freedom than travel? Guess what? The only order better at traveling are the Elsecallers! Then, when they've arrived in a new place, their second surge allows them to instantly start reshaping their environment into something inhabitable and safe. They're perfect explorers and scouts! You need someone to operate independently in hostile territory, go talk to some Willshapers. You could argue that the Elsecallers could do that too, but they apparently usually fell into more of a traveling diplomat role. You could say that the Elsecallers traveled to far away cities/people, while Willshapers traveled to far away places/environments. As much as I love how the Ligtweavers can change the way people perceive the world with their illusions, while also changing how the world actually is with their soulcasting (changing lies into truth and truth into lies, blurring the line between the two in the process, no wonder they need to speak personal truths for their ideals) or how Windrunners can bind the winds to them to help them fall/fly better, there's a mesh between powers and oaths in the Willshapers and Edgedancers that I haven't felt from any other orders so far.
Favorite Order? Windrunner. I know I'm unoriginal. Two small notes, I think the heralds were formed after the first desolation. Your wonderful summary makes it sound like desolation-s plural occurred before the heralds were formed. Which doesn't make sense if as you (correctly) say a desolation begins when a herald cracked on Braise. But I'm overly technical a side effect of my second favorite order the skybreakers, which brings me to my second point. You've done a good job describing the order as we see them in the books. But we have plenty of reasons to believe that their current interpretation of their oaths is not the original interpretation.
Hmm you're right I did make it seem that way. My mistake! Also I agree the current iteration is different, but I tried to speak more about the ancient radiants instead of the new ones for spoiler reasons. So I had to take the information available on the oaths and put them together. I think it's reasonable enough to say that the oaths would be similar at least. Also feel no shame in your favourite order. Windrunners are awesome! Thanks for watching!

Lightweaver here, took the quiz and everything. And I agree, being able to create illusions of my imagination is awesome! And being able to transform anything into anything, also awesome.
I love how the Ligtweavers can change the way people perceive the world with their illusions, while also changing how the world actually is with their soulcasting. Changing lies into truth and truth into lies, blurring the line between the two in the process, no wonder they need to speak personal truths for their ideals! You could easily get lost in these layers of artificial reality. Especially since LIghtweavers were often spies and infiltrators.
Thank you very much!! This video has illuminated the mess I had in my head about the Heralds. Without a doubt you are a Radiant Knight of the order that governs Pallia, a Truthwatcher 🤩
One important thing not mentioned: Because Bondsmiths have such massivve potential power, there can only ever be 3, as there are only 3 Spren in all of Roshar that are ancient and powerful enough to create a Bondsmith.

I don't understand how being tortured in a hell dimension could slow down the next desolation. Honor was powerful enough to make them immortal, but just HAD to place them in Braze when they "died"?
Seems odd that when all the Heralds went to braize(to hold off the voidbringers), desolations were only a few years apart. Yet after the last desolation, Taln was able to hold them off for 4500 years by himself.
its a damn good video :) I'd also like to add that Brandon is one of the few autors with really good/realistic depictions of mental illnesses, neurodivergent people (autism spectrum), women who arent blank papers and maaaaaany more good things:D
Though my personality and interests fit best with the Lightweavers, it’s hard not to be partial toward the Windrunners. My TTRPG characters tend to be very Windrunner esque
My favorite order powers wise are the Skybreakers. I can fly and set things on fire? Sign me up. I also have a theory that their use of Division could work differently from the Dustbringers. I think it may allow them to divide bonds of Connection not just the physical bonds between molecules.
@T.V. Raven/ or the narrator of this video - hi, I stopped at 3:39 for a moment to say things I might forget later on. First of all, it seems you dug up and collected works from most artists Sanderson had guest-starring in his work. That's wonderful, visuals often help to draw readers. Second, your voice is very pleasant! Baritone register, mellow, nice, I like it. But you're not easy yet with narrations, a bit nervous. Please relax, try to speak a tad more slowly and enunciate more clearly. Not only will this give your words more impact, but it will also allow your vocal qualities to come out fully, give depth to your voice and make it even more pleasant to listen. In the suggestions I see you have several videos out, which I'll only samole, as I read another series at the moment and want to add Elantris to my Cosmere reading before prospecting. I do love your twitter name "Raven Is Ranting", but I've never been on other social media than TH-cam, so this is my only way to communicate. On I listen: 4:47... this is one of the worst images in a good number of story lines. Taln, Talenelat'elin, tortured alone for 4,500 Roshar years, which appear to be longer than our Terran years, to add insult to injury. As early as that, my opinion got stuck, especially regarding Jezrien. I don't much care for the Heralds - thanks, Nale, you bastid, btw - or Honor or anyone, I got a thing for Cultivation, and I'm sorry to say, for the 9th Unmade, Bar-Ado-Mishram. I'm waiting to find out what will go on in this direction... 10:00 yaah! Ishar, somebody please kick him, a bit more than even Jezrien. I did not see Ishar's impersonation coming from far ahead, as usual, that one took me by surprise, the Stormfather's words regarding him put me of my guard. Beautifully narrated sequence, very nice, also very clever, by the way! Alright, got to the end - and really enjoyed this video. There's loads of Cosmere and Stormlight content flooding YT now, I can say little bout this new trend, but I will enjoy following your work and development. I go watch your Cosmere 101 now, before doing something constructive (: If I may say this: I would love to see the Malazan Book of the Fallen adapted for YT with your calm style, thoughtfulness and attention to detail. Everything I've seen of Malazan so far is bad or annoying (I have no trouble saying this out loud cause I'm not a nice person), but Erikson's massive series could profit from your patient, attentive, step-by-step approach. Please don't feel pushed by this, it's just me thinking/wishing out loud - I'll be glad to see your take on the Cosmere every now and then. Sorry for dropping such a text wall, your video inspired me to talk a lot (too much maybe). Am hoping for your first 1000 subs.
Thank you so much for your detailed and thoughtful comment! I'm definitely working on improving my video-making, narration, and editing skills, but I'm still rather new to this all at the moment. But I appreciate the advice. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. And trust me, Malazan is on my list, but it's a huge undertaking. For now my focus is to get through Wheel of Time first and make videos on that. I'm glad you made mention of my attention to detail since the whole reason I made this channel was due to a lack of detailed video essays on the books I enjoy. Appreciate all the kind words :)
@@RavensRants It's very hard for me t do short comments on books, reading is the great passion in my life. I should have known from your style you'd get to Malazan eventually (: I've seen some more of your videos now and enjoy them very much. it's great to see your style doesn't go off-path. You stick to little bits of info you come across and add to puzzles, thus providing insights that usually are lost among discussion/repetition of key scenes and action. I think I said it already, your thoughtful, and build step by step, this is the best way to approach big literary works, cycles, series, sequences. Reading is still uncommon, I believe your videos could be a great motivation for people for rely on other, to me less satisfying media (I'm a nut, though, I've not watched since 2011). I'm not a kind person, if I take an interest, I might write too much, too direct, too harsh or personal. But please know I'm never out to hurt or insult, unless I explicitly say so. Keep soaring, Raven!

Much more interesting to watch after having read SLA up to Rythm of War (maybe the book before) since it allows to put some order in concepts that are only brushed in the books and never given in such an organised form. I would advise against watching it before reading the novels since the information is not necessary to understand what is happening during the first book and most of the second.
I've just read the first book, but im definitely going to continue with the series. However im seeing all this talk about "cosmere" and I was wondering if im missing out by not reading his other series?

I don't understand how being tortured in a hell dimension could slow down the next desolation. Honor was powerful enough to make them immortal, but just HAD to place them in Braze when they "died"?
Seems odd that when all the Heralds went to braize(to hold off the voidbringers), desolations were only a few years apart. Yet after the last desolation, Taln was able to hold them off for 4500 years by himself.
its a damn good video :)
I'd also like to add that Brandon is one of the few autors with really good/realistic depictions of mental illnesses, neurodivergent people (autism spectrum), women who arent blank papers and maaaaaany more good things:D
Brandon is absolutely an awesome author
Yeah, I agree with the others. I wanted to understand what else callers could do and this helped.
Gotta stick with the order I would be part of as my favorite! WINDRUNNER!!!!
Nice choice!
I got truthwatcher from the quiz. I never paid attention to them in the book. But now I’m intrigued.
I love Wllshapers' ideals but Taln has to be the best Radiant right?
Taln is bae
Elsecallers are my favorite
Hey I'm an Elsecaller! 😂
Dammit I’m gonna have to reread these now
I go watch your Cosmere 101 now, before doing something constructive (:
If I may say this: I would love to see the Malazan Book of the Fallen adapted for YT with your calm style, thoughtfulness and attention to detail.
I should have known from your style you'd get to Malazan eventually (:
I've seen some more of your videos now and enjoy them very much. it's great to see your style doesn't go off-path.
Play at 1.25 times and you will still end up loving it.
Baie cool video bra!! Ek het onlangs begin met Way of Kings en ek kan dit nie neersit nie! Dankie vir jou moeite met hierdie video. Heel insightful. Groete! 🎸🎸
Lol dankie
Thank u bro .. its so hard to keep up in the book sometimes
Dustbringers ftw
Hell yeah!
Take the quiz
www.brandonsanderson.com/official-knights-radiant-order-quiz/
Bondsmith because it is amazing to bring people together.
The Oathpact wasn't an initial part of the formation of the Heralds.
I am only half-way into book 2, does this have any spoilers for book 2 or later?
Do we know what is meant by tortured
Who was torturing them?
I think we'll get definitive answers by the back 5 books
I've just read the first book, but im definitely going to continue with the series. However im seeing all this talk about "cosmere" and I was wondering if im missing out by not reading his other series?
You're not heavily missing out, but you'll thank yourself if you do read other Cosmere books. If you have read WOK I recommend Warbreaker before moving on to the second Stormlight book. The second book has a reveal that's pretty fun if you've read Warbreaker first
The poor heralds. A pretty raw deal
Does anyone know why Raven stopped making videos?
I just started the way of kings, should I watch this video? Does it have spoilers?
OMG I just realized Honor is the Cosmere version of Zordon. QUICK ALPHA! Find me 10 teenagers with attitude!
Stonewards sound awesome
Skybreakers are badass 🤘
Hell yeah!
Stoneward for life.
You really stated its spoiler free and threw in a art of Kaladin as a windrunner
oof, i mean it was a little bit obvious to me, since i've seen some battle animations so it would click....wonder about the other characters though :o
In his defense It’s 14 years old. To even search for it on Google to see what it is will reveal spoilers.
Damn i miss this guy 😔
Stonewards 😍
Stonewards are super cool
What do you mean by Spoiler Free?
I don't understand can a knights radiant have more than one power?
I like renarin's order
