That's with changing every shell. I changed my Switch Lite's shell from the Aquamarine to the Atomic Purple like the N64 controller and holy shit. Go watch a video for that one. That was the sketchiest thing i've ever done in my life lol.

@14:24 I just used a strip of washi tape, folded it onto itself and taped the ends to the strip to "extend" it and guide it though. OH and thank you for this video, my mod was successful! Had to look up other videos on on how to change out the trigger buttons before continuing this video and it really made me appreciate the quality of your video- everyone elses was blurry, far away, dark, no audio/hard to follow
So you would assume all's you have to do is unscrew the face plate and then put your new one on. However you have to be a technician at MIT to do this.
Good instructions this video. Step by step and clear. I tried this but realised my controller was little different components and holders and also realised the golden shell was too big for inside of controller
You dont really need a pry tool, just apply opposite pressure to both sides of the controller, and then the shell will pretty much just pop off, ive used this technique on both of my controllers.
I didn't need to to replace the top I needed to put the thumbstick in and that's video was helpful I recommend it to anybody with a PlayStation controller

I was on board until I noticed that the shells of my controllers and the shell I’m trying to change to are built differently. So now I can’t use my new shell
That ribbon cable scares the hell out of me, all I'm trying to do is swap the back casings on my regular black PS4 controller in my magma red PS4 controller so that way I can have a PS4 controller that looks more like the wave one red PS4 controller
Your supposed to push the blue card bit up with your finger and pull it out with your fingers not fkn pliers thats how you wreck it. This guy doesnt know what hes doing
Ok one thing i found was you mention the gold side of the cord needs to be facing to the outside and the blue side faces the battery when putting the back panel back on. For me the blue had to face away in order to match up the circuit to the teeth. Otherwise the controller turns on but the light is off and it won’t charge.
Very helpful video. I'm not sure if this helps in terms of changing the face plate to a SCUF face plate on Dual Shock 4. Please make a video on directions to assemble the SCUF faceplate parts and stuff for Dual Shock 4 once it is released.
I just had a look and they seem similar, the only thing i think could be different is the ones with the extra paddle buttons on the back that would need something to connect it to the controls.
Ok, thanks for the reply. What I am concerned about is how the d-pad will be placed on the SCUF face plate of the Dual Shock 4 where the left analog stick used to be.
There is actually a little lever holding that ribbon cable down on the 3rd layer. You can flick it up with your screwdriver. Makes it a whole lot easier to take out and put back in. Was cringing watching you struggle with it 😂
@@lovelylune3 It's the cable he's having trouble pulling out at 5:30 in the vid. Where it's connected there's a small lever you flick up which makes it much easier to take out without risking damaging the cable!
Hey Simon, thanks for the very helpful video 😄👍 As a result of watching this video I was able to replace the rubber components behind the d-pad and symbol playstation buttons, and also my L2 button. Feels like a brand new controller again! I've read a few reviews of ExtremeRate faceplate covers, saying they were difficult to screw in to. What was your experience?
Great video! I recently ordered a custom shell for my controller, so I decided to take apart an old controller and put it back together again to practice. When I put it back together, my controller wouldn't charge and the light bar would no longer work. Any idea what the problem was?
Thanks! I would check the ribbon cable that connects from the light bar to the battery and the white plastic connectors. I recently just changed my own ribbon cable, it seems to be the most common issue.
@@backpackbert no problems replacing the shell. The only thing i recommend is not taking the ribbon cables out too often. I changed mine too much and the cable got worn. I bought buttons and wanted to see all the combinations haha

Does this work for all models of controller? I still have the white controller that came with the destiny bundle when is first came out and want to change the skin on it. Or is it for only the newer controllers?
@@KillerHairRocks the back shell unscrew the bit holding the light bar and slide the pieces out. Then another screw for the connecter. Just remember where everything goes or take a photo before doing it. :)
For some reason my screws won’t fit on the motherboard. Do you know if the screw for the motherboard is a different size than the four on the back of the controller?
The casing I had did not have the little pins that stick out for the home button. I tried to take off the shell and broke one of the pieces that hold the controller together, I failed.

I just realised you have to almost take apart the whole controller to just remove a ribbon thing and a screw.

I don't remember struggling at all. Taking joy cons apart is a much tougher task.

Whilst i have the controller stripped, would it be easy to replace fault sticks? (Drift, left stick not working properly for sprint ect)
You would need to de solder the existing ones out and then solder in the new ones. so it depends if you want to solder.
