    I travelled that road last month. The roads not the problem. I travelled 7000km. The one thing that stood out was the number of drivers towing caravans who have no idea how wide their vans are and dont think to move over a bit further to the left lane when passing a larger vehicle.

    The majority of accidents happen due to the human factor, not road conditions. Speeding, fatigue, inattention, using mobile phones, intoxicants, inexperience, impatience, selfishness etc are most frequently the cause. And as a Qld Paramedic of 23 years, it astounds me how many people can see an accident or dangerous situation unfolding in front of them & they don’t even slow down, much less plan or take evasive manoeuvres. EVERYONE should take Advanced Driver Training a few years after they get their licence & should always drive with their full attention focused on the road, vehicles & other hazards around them & be prepared to take evasive action to prevent accidents.

      Spot on👍. Most people overtake without waiting for an overtaking lane to save a few minutes. It is just frightening to see how many people approaching on the highway are Not actually watching where they are going either. Looking down at their phone, looking at a passenger's phone or looking at a passenger, deeply engaged in conversation. Young women scare me the most personally, Fully engaged in a conversation on the phone, hands-free yes, but looking at the phone, hands waving around gesturing, yes, sometimes both hands, Fully engrossed in the conversation, totally oblivious to the Semi that just passed them in the opposite direction, both doing 100kph. Maybe a video call or FaceTime or whatever. Fact is, so many people are too deeply distracted to notice oncoming traffic that they must just forget that they are driving I guess. It makes me think that at the time of impact, they literally would not even know what hit them. When you see this sort of thing, several times within 100km distance, it is a frightening indicator, of just how big a problem we have and just makes it all the more surprising that there are not many more fatalities on the roads.

      There are 3 issues on the Bruce hwy.
      1/ the speed freak travelling way to fast for the road conditions and overtake dangerously…..
      2/ but the main cause is the SLOW cognitive impaired DRIVERS who seem oblivious to the world around them,
      Then speed up on overtaking lanes…..some of these also tow caravans…..
      3/ the Tailgaters….mainly heavy vehicles……..but at least we can communicate with them….

    I hope this was not caused by the driver losing control of a swaying caravan. I’ve seen this happen so many times where if going to fast, the item being towed is inclined to sway. Wearing seat belts unfortunately doesn’t prevent death is such horrific accidents. I really feel sorrow and sadness for those who have lost their lives and to those families affected. I pray for recovery of those still injured and for the survivors who will have to live with the horror of accident.

    Witness reports say bus driver veered into the other lane and for anyone here generalizing negatively about caravans, the car driver actually took evasive action and saved himself and wife, and possibly occupants of the car behind him. Unfortunately the van hit bus.

      I doubt if a Car towing a caravan could get up enough speed to pass a Greyhound Bus.

    • @MrWombatty
      @MrWombatty 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kjangmy In Australia, most caravans are towed by large powerful four-wheel-drives (not cars), so most have no trouble exceeding the maximum speed-limit of 110 kmph! Also all Australian commercial heavy vehicles including trucks/coaches/buses are fitted with 100 kmph speed-limiters (although it possible for them to exceed that down hills)!

      @@Asone82 Yes, I heard that but the investigations is still ongoing. The bus may have had a tyre blow-out from a pothole, or was avoiding one. Another possibility is a medical-episode, or simply dozed off.
      Whatever the reason, the truth will come out, but those keyboard-experts simply saying bus-drivers are dangerous as they speed don't realise that Aussie heavy-vehicles 100 kmph speed-limiters fitted (although some cowboy truck drivers disable them)!

    I travel from Cairns to Mackay often and caravan drivers are a constant problem. I know most are retired and not in a hurry but I often get caught stuck behind a Caravan doing 70 kph in a 100 zone. This is so frustrating and angers me when there are cars lined up behind these people for up to 1 KM. People take risks and overtake these slow-moving caravans. Its actually an offence to go so below the speed limit, but they are retired and got all the time in the world. If they were considerate they would let 3 cars build up behind them and then pull over to keep the flow of traffic, but they don't, they stick on 70 all the way to their destination.
    Even vans that sit on 90 in a 100 zone are frustrating. If your car cannot handle the speed limit or you are not confident enough to do the speed limit then my guess is GET OFF THE ROAD.
    If I'm even planning a short trip on the Bruce highway I need to take into account the Caravaners will be on the roads after 8am so leave at 6am to avoid them. It really is that bad. This incident didn't give the cause of the accident but I bet, I will even put money on it that the bus was overtaking a caravaner that was going too slow. I mean model T fords top speed was 35mph. Vehicles have changed a lot since then and the vehicles towing these caravans are more than capable of towing and keeping up with the speed limit. Just that they are in no hurry to get anywhere and very happy to take in the scenery at everyone else's expense and in this case everyone else's life. The police must pull these snail carts over and remind them other people are on the road.

      Take your anger management pills. Your rant has nothing to do with this. Witness reports say the bus driver is at fault veering into the other lane, probably dozed off. The car driver actually prevented more deaths with fast evasive action.

    • @carolynbrightfield8911
      @carolynbrightfield8911 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd suggest it's fairly easy to overtake a vehicle doing 70 in 110km/h zone. Much easier than sitting behind a car + caravan sitting on 110 in 110 k zone, 'cos you can't without breaking the speed limit (illegal). Instead, you have to sit behind it while it blocks your view. If they're sitting on 90-100, it's still pretty easy. Maybe they're avoiding build up "sway" - now that makes it hard to overtake a caravan.
