The Cosmic Horror of Consciousness | Scorn

  • Scorn is one of the most unique games of this generation, it also has one of if not the most misunderstood lore in gaming history. Scorn is really about the cosmic horror of consciousness and what would happen if humanity went to any length to attain enlightenment.
Though critics will say scorn is merely a walking simulator with good graphics or art style, it reaches far beyond that and taps into many occult themes that are masterfully told throughout the games environment, with every point made in the art book being able to be discovered in game if you have the ability to see and pick up on its imagery.

Super vid. Wish it was a little longer & went into more detail about the themes of Scorn that can be found in other works of media, but still a nice bite-sized look at an incredible experience (even if the "game" part is particularly lacking).

lol yea if you came from my mouthwashing video. Some of my older content may not reflect the direction the channel is going!. Thanks for the comment though. I have more Meaty videos coming that dive a bit deeper. 🧐

Very cool video. Did you play using the VR mod? I've never played it because my PC is trash, and I'd want to experience it in VR if possible.
I'd love to hear your take on Here They Lie, but I can't remember if you've got a PSVR 1 or not. It was similarly unfairly dismissed by critics at the time.

I do have PSVR 1 I’ll have to give here they lie another go. I beat it a few years back, but cannot remember some of the finer details. I have tried to get scorn working with uevr, it does work but the movement is a little challenging, I need to find someone’s profile for it. However just looking around with a headset on in game is mesmerizing.

Why didn't you just call it a piece of shit? These concepts have already been known and talked about in the Bible you don't need another revelation as to how to carry yourself in life. Nothing to talk about here they are obviously demented, how much thought went into someone crawling out of something and shriveling on the ground in front of you. That's all there is to the experience there is no deeper meaning.

Because it’s not shit!! For me it was a phenomenal experience.. it came at an interesting time in my life and it gave me joy in an odd way. Yes it is demented and inspired by other stories.. and religion. What did you hate so much about the game?

@@VirtualResidence The horror genre in general is an abhorrent mess. The adolescent confrontation with mortality is an issue that is a public health and safety issue. I don't know anyone who enjoys this type of virtual amusement park of cheap thrills with heads and stomachs. I know that there are Russian units making Ukranians eat their own brains. Again I don't know anyone who enjoys this type of stuff and no one I know has been convicted of a murder. This type of stuff has made it's way on adult swim and other mainstream content platforms and it should simply be so regulated that it's not openly viewable. That's my problem with it.

@@VirtualResidence there always will be people who will complain, and try to diminish your expierience, because they are not on good terms with the world and themselves.
I didn't see in this game much deeper meaning. Just guts and suffering. But it was interesting and enjoyable to watch your analysis on it. Some games have so extensive and well thought out concepts. This one was very fascinating. :)

Not everyone needs a book written a couple thousand years ago by probable schiophrenics to be a template for how to live your life. Breaking down art and (as said in the video) "coming to your own conclusions" is a vital step to learning how to best live your life. You don't have to like something for it to be impactful and important to someone else; that's a little thing called "maturity".
