  • Want to see the best new rods, reels, and baits?! We went to ICAST and found the best of the best! We spent time testing the gear, fished the lures, and captured underwater footage of their actions before putting this gear review together. Check out our top picks!
Every year ICAST is packed with new gear. Whether you're into ultra-high end tech or just budget options, there are thousands of items around the show for you to check out. Frankly, its overwhelming! We attend the show so we can cut through the fluff, the hype, and the "game changers", and really find the innovative new products that might help us (and you) catch more fish!
Below you'll find links to all the baits, and gear reviewed in today's video. We've included favorite sizes, models, and colors, where applicable. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

I like that you guys didn't make a video at Icast itself. It would have taken away from the experience you and Tim had and the in depth review of the stand outs that we've come to know on the channel. Good call fellas 👍

One of the things I love about you guys and that I think sets you guys apart from most of the others is that when I am watching one of your videos I feel more like a student versus an audience. A lot of the TH-camrs out there try to shock you or outdo the other guy. Which in most cases, yes, is entertaining but its not much help to us as anglers. I mean how is catching a fish with a toy doll or teddy bear going to help us. Again, yes its entertaining but not useful or practical. You guys keep it simple and actually approach it like a teacher would teaching their students. You do your planning and studying and then you deliver your lessons to us VIA videos. Your not trying to lure (pun intended 😂) people in using the shock factor or clickbait. And your not CONSTANTLY and I mean CONSTANTLY throwing promo codes at us and hocking products. I understand TH-camrs have sponsors and earn money via clicks, subs and commissions and theres NOTHING wrong with that. I TOTALLY support that. But at the same time, do I really need to be told 8 times in a 5 minute video to use a promo code to buy a certain product? NO. We come to Tactical Bassin to learn how to be better anglers and THAT'S EXACTLY what you and Tim do. You teach us to be better anglers, and for that we cant thank you enough. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!

Love hearing you guys geek out over tackle! A couple bait I saw that I would love your opinions on are the 1st Gen baits. The Topspin is going to replace my underspins if the action is right and the Jaw Dropper is an idea I had in my head for a while (a lipped jighead) and looks awesome too if it delivers what they say.

I have a Scorpion MGL. It's a 150 size spool, but on the Curado 200K body. It casts SO much better then a Curado 200K, that I ordered a replacement spool for it from Japan and dropped it in my Curado 200K, and love the reel even more. These new Curado 150 MGLs with the smaller body look even better. Can't wait to pick one up.

21:07- Looks like a Stanley top toad with hollow body frog hooks installed. Scum Frog has a frog called the big foot that is a hollow body frog/toad combo. They just took a hollow body frog, took out the jig skirt legs, and inserted the legs from a plastic toad basically. It floats when you stop it, and kicks as it swims- just like this one. But- what I've noticed is that it doesn't have quiet enough weight to sit down in the water good so those legs can get to really kicking. So I inserted a couple split shot- bingo, works great now. This looks like a more durable version though, tbh.

  • @RyanSmith-fb8rf

Matt one really important point to add to the feature of the Diawa Zillion is that they completely cut new gears for this reel. They went with bigger and thicker gear grooves and a beefed up pinion. In other words they went opposite of Shimano’s micro modular gears to make it smoother. It’s a really good reel and I’m not a Diawa or Shimano fan boy I like both companies products. Thanks for all of your help and everything you do on this channel I am a huge fan of your show and this is by far my favorite channel on TH-cam keep up the great work.

The New Zillion is a sweet reel. Ridiculously good. Super smooth, cast very well, has great control when throwing something fairly light into the wind. Daiwa definitely stepped their game up.

I'm actually stoked on the new Curado rods. They completely upgraded that line and is basically a Zodias rod now without the monocoque handle. For the price of 150$ that's a great deal considering it was 189$ just a few years ago. Definitely adding that to my arsenal.

So glad they added a little drag to the Curado. I fish a few models of Curado exclusive, but I have always been less than excited by the drag pressure. When I set the hook, even if the drag is tight, I still have to have my thumb on the spool. I’ve lost some fish due to the drag slipping in the hook set. I just love the reels so much otherwise, so I live with that flaw. Hoping this couple extra pounds will make the difference.

You mentioned Spro had done something totally different with the ned rig - however, you missed the opportunity to say that they had done something "toadally" different, in their new flappin frog. I've used the scum frog big foot in the past, and I've lost more legs from them than I'de like to admit, so I'm excited for this frog. Still haven't gotten my hands on the poppin 70, either.

Thank god y’all finally gave Daiwa some love. That zillion is incredible, no point in buying a Steez A anymore because the Zillion is as good for less money!
Edit: and definitely look into the JDM version because it’s like $30 less shipped with no tax, and it’s made in Japan so it’s more refined. Daiwa aluminum gears hold up because they don’t put too many teeth on their gears like Shimano.

    • @helotaxi

I've got the new Zillion and I've fished it a decent bit. It's amazing and has replaced the 2020 Metanium as my favorite reel that I don't flinch at buying more than one of. That said, it isn't a Steez. I will place it ahead of the Metanium, which I love, and for less money.

      @stoneysdead689 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The top toad- get the Jackal toad toter for it- you won't be sorry. It's a toad hook/buzz bait thing- hard to explain. Scum frog actually makes a hollow body frog/toad combo called the "Big foot" that's made more like this one- accept from a different material. The body is made out of the same rubber hollow body frogs are made of and the legs are made of the same plastic toads are made of- think of a hollow body frog but instead of jig skirt legs they just inserted plastic legs from a toad.

I’d love to see some gear reviews that feature different brands like Lew’s, Abu Garcia, Duckett, Favorite, etc. Just seems like all we ever get in terms of gear reviews are Shimano, Dobyns, Gloomis, St. Croix, Daiwa, Megabass and a couple others. I watch everything y’all put out and love what you do l just wish we got a bit more diversity when it comes to buyer guides and gear reviews.

They don’t review things they don’t/won’t use. There is a reason some of the things you mentioned aren’t going to be reviewed here. Doesn’t mean they aren’t good products, it just means they themselves aren’t using them and probably won’t.

@@derrickwestfall2002 Where did they say that, and under what context? They try out all kinds of new baits. Some we never hear of. Probably for good reason. Same goes for equipment. If they like it, they tell us. What they don’t do is trash baits and equipment. So that may be the reason you aren’t seeing some of the stuff you want to see. Maybe they don’t like it and aren’t interested in making a video bashing gear.

Was in a local tackle shop last weekend and they just got some G.Loomis GCX's in that morning. Handled an 852S JWR and was very impressed by the way it felt, incredibly lightweight, but felt slightly tippy. Maybe just because there wasn't a reel on it, but I think I'm going to stick with my Dobyns at this time just due to being so perfectly balanced...

Ordered some of the 5" Basstrix in the disco gizzard shad- and some 4/0 owners- but they're only 1/8th oz. - is that enough weight to really keep them down in say 10 feet of water? You're supposed to creep these along bottom- right? Or do you just fish them like smaller swimbaits- wherever you can get bit..

Just got a Curado 150MGL. I've used Shimano reels since 1980. I have never been as disappointed as I am now. This reel is super lightweight. It feels great. However, it does NOT turn freely in the hand. I lubed it. Still doesn't freely turn. As soon as my Expride comes, I'll try it out. I hope I'm wrong.

I have a few curado 151 hds. I have notice that when I set the hook my drag slips even if I have drag maxed out. I thought at first it was just 1 reel but they all do it. Is this a design flaw. My black max and cheap lews do not do this.

What casting reel in the $180 range would be best for an all around reel to pair with a St. Croix Victory MHF.

I am really interested in the evergreen shower top water . Both the 77 and 105 , question i have for the 77 is what size hook upgrades would you use . I normally use owner ,so the model and size that you would throw is what i would try , reason i ask is i live in Texas and there are some big bass in my lakes and I don’t want them bending out smaller and weaker spilt rings and hooks . Seeing as the 77 is small that would be a concern as I don’t want to over size the hooks and kill the action . Thanks a lot and as always so happy to be a part of T.B and glad y’all had a fun and safe trip to Icast .
