- Every bass fisherman should know how to fish a shaky head. We're going to give you the beginner basics, as well as some very advanced information on head shapes, line ties, worms, and creatures. Whether you're a brand new angler or a tournament pro, there is information here that will help you catch more fish!
If you just want to catch a few fish on a shakey head, a basic head and a 6" straight tail worm will almost always get the job done. But if you're ready to jump down the rabbit hole with us, we look at 4 factors when choosing our heads. The head style, the hook brand (and shape), the keeper system, and the line tie. When it comes to baits we look at bait size, color, tail shape, and ability to float.
Below you'll find links to the exact baits and heads discussed in the video. We've included sizes, exact color recommendations, and any other pertinent information to help you make your best selections. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

#bassfishing #shakyhead #worms
Been fishing my entire life. Learn more from this site than any other. Great how you link everything in the comments also.
I always like Tim and Matt's videos. Very good detail every time. I would really like to see more of these technique specific video's with actual footage showing everyone how exactly you fish the technique you are presenting. Words describing what you do in certain situations are great but real live footage showing us the technique really makes a difference IMO. You both do this in some of your videos, which I really learn a lot more from those. Thanks for all you guys do for the sport!!
o see. l no o
I have learned so much about bass fishing from watching the channel. I appreciate the time you take to show tactics and gear the to use. Again thank you so much
That was another solid video. I laughed at the fact you had to show a picture of “Free Willy “ because some might not get the reference way to make me feel old Tim.
I’ve been looking for this all summer long!! Thank you
Thanks Tim, Shaky head fishing has become one of my favorites lately. Now I've got some new ideas.
Awesome video! Thanks for taking the time to educate us on shakyhead.
Me myself and I definitely needed this Shakey Head tutorial!!
It’s just annoying it’s a how to video and me wanting to know how to actually fish it mean how to throw them how to reel them. All his videos just talk for hours on how to tie up line size line brands reel brands hook types bait colors shapes variations of everything what his buddies use what’s linked in the description what he likes about these brands and not these. End of video “so know lets talk about how to fish it and throw it out a couple times see if we can hook one” all that said I like his videos to go back to
I’m going to try using other plastics other than the typical straight tail worm. That’s a really good idea
Great explanation. Thank you. I caught my first shakey head fish this year using a finesse shakey head rig that an experienced friend showed me.
Great vid. Idea for future vid. Hi vis line and when it would be beneficial to use. I use green braid and i lose sight of it sometimes and hard to see the bite in the line.
Great job Tim and as always back at ya, thank you. Be well out there!
Tim, the Picasso Rhino head you can rig it weedless. Rig it just as you would a straight shank flipping hook. Love the Rhinohead and is very weedless when rigged like a straight shank flipping or T-rig hook.
I wish I could fish with you guys I love watching your videos I learn so much from them. Thank you
I herd that. you said "y'all" Already becoming a southern boy. I dig shaky head fishing and you covered it all.
The longer the better. Nothing makes me wanna try new things like a nice long video with everything all inclusive! You guys always help motivate me to go get on the water! I mainly bank and kayak fish so all these tips and tricks help me make sure I catch fish each time I go out. Thanks so much!!
This is crazy. I’ve been wanting to get into shakey heads, but wasn’t sure how to go about it. Then this video popped up. Get out of my head!
Thank you for this video.
Great video and right on time. Fishing a Wednesday nighter at table rock tonight!!
IMO the Picasso Rhino head works best in cover because the line tie is recessed. Using it with the hook exposed kind of defeats one of its strengths.
Excellent video Tim. I love me some Mag Shakey head action in the summer.
Excellent video I never fished the shaky head looking forward to trying it.
Great video again....thank you guys
Been doing a lot of shakey head fishing this summer. 6th sense ridge worm has been on fire for me. Unique action and waves in the water.
Thanks Tim. the INFO was a great 👍. HELP i can't wait to GO fishing and catch a waper
Hey Tim, since it’s slowly starting to come to fall do you think you guys could make another fall jig video? I’m getting big into jig fishing and was hoping you could share more information on it! You guys have helped learn a lot about fishing. Keep up the good videos!
Great vid!!!! Have you ever looked at the shakey head made by David Dudley? I got afew last season a wasn’t sure but glad I did. Played with them in my pool and just about every bait I threw stood up. Now it’s the only one I use👍
Tungsten shakey heads were a game changer during a tough bite for me. Love em and I love swing head shakey head hybrid jigs.
What the hell is a swing head shaky head hybrid jig?
Tim, you guys need to get with dirty jigs to make a shakey head with a recessed line tie AND a screw lock keeper for the ultimate weedless shakey head. I've seen some out there, but they don't say what brand hook so it's probably junk.
I even have a name for it, "the tactical bassin subscriber head lol. Let's get this one made guys.
Thanks Tim, really informative. These detailed videos makes it super easy to share with our friends that are just getting into bass fishing 🐟
Great tips awesome channel shakey head fishing is fun love the T mac
Awesome video. Very well explained and a lot of good stuff in there. Thanks!
Great info, love guys keep up the great work. I am becoming a better bass fisherman😊
He says hopefully "hopefully I didn't breeze by those head types too quickly"...dude you just spent like 16 min talking about them 🤣🤣 seriously though thats why I LOVE this channel. You and Matt do such a great job explaining techniques and products. You two have made a huge difference in my entire approach to fishing.
You guys should make a trip out towards las vegas and hit lake mohave. I would say lake mead but with water levels it's hard to launch
May have missed it but didn't hear any talk about roundbend vs ewg style hooks on the bigger heads for us guys that like to texpose everything. Good content
Caught a 5 pounder this morning on a local lake on a Shaky head. Using a white finesse worm dipped the tail in a little bit of Chartreuse
Really great thorough outline of the shaky head! This is one of your most informative videos in a while. I'll be examining my shaky head tackle and making a couple of purchases, thanks Tim.
Why do I feel like the conversation between Matt and Tim about the "Welcome back to Tactical Bassin" tag line went just like in the movie 'Private Parts' with Paul Giamatti and Howard Stern practicing the "wNNNbc" tag line. Just teasing guys, great video
Absolutely awesome
Detailed and informative information I love it keep it up guys
Tim, I rig the Rino head weedless just as you would a straight shank flipping worm hook. It works great and very weedless configured like that straight shank worm hook. Try it you may like it.
I do the same thing just figure out the right angle to put the hook in and you're good to go and honestly when you do rig the Rhino weed less that hooked bait keeper works much better than the screwlock in my opinion.
I’m partial to the Grandebass airtail worms or the Gene Larew tattletale. Both work great on a shakeyhead or a neko rig.
I'm sure it has been covered in other videos, but I would love to see more technique tips on your videos. How do you wiggle your worm? 😁
Flip it, reel slowly.. high rod tip, twitch 1,2,3,4 drop, 1234 drop. Reel in the slack repeat
I think that's on the Onlyfans page.......
Some of my biggest bass have come from a mondo worm on a shakey head in mid to late summer. 👍🏻🎣
I really needed this vid cause I need to use the shaky soon
Love these videos!
Great information 👍🏼👍🏼
Great job bro
Thanks for the video..
Hey Tim and Matt! How are you guys doing today? Did you guys see the new 10,000 fish Zuchi Bug creature bait? I was wondering if you guys would give it a try and see how it does, it looks like it would do good on a shaky head or Texas rig.
as a coosa river fisherman who primarily throws shaky heads, the buckeye spot remover pro is the deal
I appreciate you guy's.
Awesome job Tim 👏👏
Curious about trying a floating worm on a shakey head or other type of jig heads. Think it would help with the nose down and tail up.What do you think about the idea?
Grande baits air tail rattler is a good one for what your talking about
Countless shaky head worms are floaters- yes, it helps the worm stay in the up right position. That said- that's not always what the fish want- just saying, remember sometimes they want one that lays down after the hop like a traditional trick worm. My favorite floater is the "Bang Stick" by z-man- favorite non-floater is the net bait T-Mac or a zoom trick worm. Good luck man, hope you stick a hawg.
Ok. Thanks for the help. Been bass fishing for some time now. And wanna try some new and different things.
@@markalbert8855 🙏
I have a video of a floating worm on my channel. Pretty neat to see that action.
Welp it looks like I'm gonna have to go and make another tackle run... What a shame lol... As always I learn a new way to fish an old tactic. Maybe I'm a dummy, but I never thought about bending the keeper to change the angle of the bait and presentation... As always... Thanks Tim!
Shaky head is my confidence lure. If nothing else work, the shaky gets me bit. Black or green pumpkin 4” worm, nothing heavier than 3/8oz. Magic
With That Bull worm . Can I use a spinner reel with braid ? And if so what pound test ! Love me some TB Knowledge !!
Great information 👍
With the line tie can you put a split ring and possibly a Norman clip standard size the small one or would that affect things?
You should try the queen tackle shaky heads and their hammer shake shaky heads. Tungsten heads affordable and the hammer shake has a small bead inside the head that rattles
I knew anything finesse related was going to be all Tim 🤣👏 great video!
Great lesson!
Using Robo FATS or ST (original) ??? I love the 4.5" ST on the tungsten Picasso heads with the smaller gammy hook. Great finesse setup...
Tim correct me if I’m wrong but no matter how you bend the keeper doesn’t the worm hook the same way each time? I don’t see how moving the keeper around will adjust the way the worm sits up.
Well done tim you guys are crushing it, please send us some water
I ordered a pack of the 8.5 inch wormser just because I have a thing for big baits and man, did I get my fix- wow! These dudes are huge. Not just 8.5 inches long but exceptionally thick and girthy- I love it. So- when you're rigging them- how do you turn the flatter, tail section of the worm? So one rigged- if the head of the shaky head is at 12 o'clock, should the flat sides be at 3 and 9? Or- should the flat sides of the tail section be turned to 6 and 12 with the head of the rig at 12 as well? I'm thinking it's designed so that if the head of the rig is at 12 then the flat sides are at 3 and 9 but- I bet it would have more action the other way.
Awesome job Tim
Very informative video. One question, when your showing the weedless rig are the hooks not exposed or are you skinning the hook?
Skin hook is what I normally do. Basically just like texposing a Texas rig.
The Baby D Stroyer works great on a Ned Rig 😁👍
What’s the big difference between the shaken head and a neg rig other than possibly a shorter bait?
Giving great insight here. Now, if you'll just give me that boat, we'll call it good.
There's so much grass in every freshwater body of water around me making anything that contacts the bottom nearly impossible to use without pulling up 3 lbs of grass with every cast. I can't wait for this grass to die off in fall lol. All summer I have used a small 2/0 wide gap hook with a small soft plastic like a small fluke or something weightless on my BFS combo.
t-mac is phenomenal on a neko rig.
would a shakeyhead rod be good for tubes as well ?
wooouw amazing brother thanks for sharing video
Caught some good ones on a Shakey head right where your sitting
Have you ever tried a Zman Floating Wormz. It makes the jig head stand up no matter what!
With creature baits do you prefer a "Stand-up" style (hopping) or Canterbury style (dragging) head?
Salted plastics sinks. Unsalted not so much. Witch would you use on a shacks head jig? Thanks.
Prayers to Aaron martens and his battle you got this bro God bless him and his family
that the same head i been using for 40 years.Do It called this stand up head jig head. Was to fish grass it came with weed guard but you can put a screw-loc in any weed guard whole when molding heads
Thanks again 👊😎👍
Helpful thanks
Awesome video.
I have to admit my addiction 😢I am addicted to dirty jigs oh yes from the compact Luke jigs to the dirty jigs swimbaits front the California jig to the regular swimjigs you just can't beat them. I was wondering if you are using a larger worm would you give the fish a little more time to tKe it before setting the hook? I have missed some before and I thought your reacting to fast let them take it.
This was a GREAT Video. I am new to your Channel. I looking for the Links to baits you were talking about. Help me find them. Thank You
Tried every shakeyhead on the market, only one excells. When bass are bitting the shakeyhead there is only one that I will kick your ass every time with. David dudleys jighead, the only one that stands up every time and gets the bite. Here in Minnesota its call the jigworm,we invented here. Larry Bolig invented it.
It's a Ned rig with a longer worm.
ive never used a shaky head. what are the benefits of using this vs a tx rig with a pegged weight?
Excellent~
The Picasso Rhino heads do have a heavy cover model as well. They have two nickle titanium weed guards. Just a little FYI and you probably already know this Tim. Thanks for the info as always.
Thank u!🔥🔥🔥
Keep making the vids atleast 30mins!
Is there a preferred way to tie the line to the shaky head? The knot
This Video just cost me 80 box on TW ...lol Hey Tim the Stickers for the kayaks man !!!!
You guys rock
Which head would you recommend as far as a shaky head for zman plastics?
check out their long shotz
@@glxbe yeah that’s be a good bait I just need a good head to put it on.
Siebert outdoors makes a great shakey head for cheap!
I need to get on the shaky head! haha
How DOES the destroyer cach fish 🐟
The Owner Shakey Ultrahead is amazing. This video was perfect. Does the color of the head matter?
The head doesn’t matter as much as the bait. Since it is very small but it does matter since they will see it. But they also don’t have to match perfect sometimes a little change of color at the head will get them to hit the head instead of tail a little better.
I did a T-Rig test with different colored weights, black, green pumpkin, and chrome. After my test of fishing each for one hour the black got the most bites/fish.
@@michaelace4739 I always buy black Shakey Heads. Although, it doesn’t take long for the paint to chip off around rock and it’ll still get bit?
@@guad512 yeah I hear you when fishing around rocks i always carry a black permanent marker in my tackle bag for that reason and to paint lures as well.
I truly appreciate the feedback. Thank you!
