Combo was a G.Loomis NRX+ 842C MBR Casting rod, Sunline Assasin 12lb Flouro, Shimano Curado 70 MGL XG 8.1:1 Reel. SVS Infinity braking tested with 2 pads open, 2 locked and casted from setting, 5, 4, 3 and 2.

    Excellent video! You answered my main question: This would be a great real for Pitching! I don't know why Shimano does not market it more towards both "Light Lures" and "Pitching". It seems like a perfect Pitching reel due to ease of casting and lower line capacity which is perfect. Thanks for the great video.

    Great video! Got this reel and did a head to head against the Curado BFS and liked the MGL better. I have it on a St. Croix Legend Bass ML and LOVE it for ned rigs in all sizes. With the Curado BFS it just caused me more issues with dialing it in. I did love the drag sound with that reel. Keep the the great videos coming. Tight lines.

    I just received this reel yesterday and when I used it it kept backlashing. I had no idea you could flip the tabs down to slow down the spool. I'm using it for my jerk baits I will be making that adjustment to see how well it works.

    I have this one and like it a lot. I only have to open it once, set the brakes and then can make minor adjustments on the fly as I need to. It's my go to for small cranks. :)

    I picked up a Scorpion MGL from Japan because it was cheaper then what they want for these things in Canada. Curado 200k frame, with a 150 size MGL spool. I got a spare MGL spool at the same time and tossed it in my Curado 200 K. Made it much better for tossing stuff like chatterbaits that have a tendency to stall out in the wind.
    I'd prefer the smaller frame size of the Curado MGL, but Scorpion was 290 dollars including import charges. Most places here in Canada want 330-350 plus tax for a Curado.

    After this review I purchased this reel… It’s my favorite real… I have really small hands and thus the size of it make it easier for me to control. I have a Curado DC and it’s huge in my hands. What reel would you recommend that i can used for longer distance casting situations with bigger braid but is smaller in size? I can’t seem to figure this out on the Shimano website. Thank you so much !

      WIithout going to a DC for casting, the smallest palm side reel would be the new Curado 150 MGL as it actually is a smaller palm side and new frame than the Curado 70 MGL... go to a retailer and put one on a rod and check it out to see if that works for you... the MGL spool is a great casting reel for both big and small baits as well!

    J.P., great video. I just purchased the Curado 70mgl but the side plate will not come off. It's stuck and I tried the normal procedures but I don't want to destroy a $240.00 reel. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors

      Loosen the spool tension knob on the handle side. Is it the clip under the palming plate that won't move? Or the side plate won't twist off?

    How do you get your line to spool so evenly? Do you have a video showing how you spool line?

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have never done a video on spooling up but I really just let the reel do the work and I make sure the line comes off the spool the same way it goes into the reel. Some people stand the spool up on its end and that causes a lot of line twist. Put the spool on a pencil or pen (I use a screwdriver and have it spin off the spool facing the reel.

    What would you recommend for Texas rig fishing mainly senkos weightless and with a 1/8 oz weight . The 70 or 150 ?

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would go with the 150 because it actually weighs a little less than the 70 but has more line capacity. Especially beneficial if you’re using 14-20lb fluoro or making really long casts

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors

    The Shimano website appears to have a Curado MGL 70, and a Curado MGL K. I can't figure out what the difference between the model with the "K" and the one without. Is there a difference, or is one just newer than the other?

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors

      There should be a Curado BFS, Curado 70 MGL, Curado 150 K MGL, Curado 150 DC, Curado 200 K, Curado 200 DC and a Curado 300K

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      I assume you mean finesse? For pitching and flipping it should hold 50 yards or so of 20lb which is usually plenty. For casting I would move to the 150 as it’s actually lighter than the 70!

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is completely up to the person casting, the bait and or weight they are casting, what lb test, what kind of line, the rod power and action and length being used... let's just say that the MGL Shimano baitcasters cast every bit as far as DC but are not as fool proof as DC technology. Sorry, no easy answer to your question
