    i love you guys. my 13 year old budgie passed away and i found your videos by chance. they helped me process it and listening to dave helped me understand what i did to make everyone think i was some pro bird trainer... im def not. my budgie would free fly with me when i would go on walks, do different dances on command. i basically treated him like a roomate and he wouldnt do things for treats, he would do it for the interaction, but after watching your vids a lot of it makes sense. glad i have so much footage of him. ive never seen such a funny weirdo budgie. i just got a new one to work with and im going to try again after all i have learned from you and from Pete RIP

    Your amazing training almost makes me wish I had a bird to train. Thanks to you guys and your videos, as well as other videos, I know I am in no position to care for a bird. They were never on my radar, but I started watching Griffi The Dancing Cockatoo, who has had a terrible life, she plucked out all her feathers. I was appalled and in love. The foster family adopted her! Now she has a forever home. TH-cam has since taken me down a very big rabbit hole. I would now love to have a bird. Again, I know I’m in no position to give it the kind of life it needs and deserves. I would only ever adopt and possibly a senior bird if I’m ever in the position to care for it properly. Your commitment to these magnificent creatures is epic, as is your willingness to be patient and help the humans ✌🏼💐🦜🇨🇦🕊🙋🏼‍♀️

    We had cockatiels when I was a kid. One of them was named Tweety and she was very sweet. Our friends moved out of state and didn't think their old cockatiel would survive the move, he was very cranky and lived another 10-15 years before he started to lose all of his balance and his quality of life wasn't there. The cockatiels were better guard dogs as far as letting us know when someone pulled into the driveway than our dogs. I'd love to see more cockatiels in your videos

    I personally found it easier to teach my bird to turn around by moving the stick (or treat) underneath the bird, rather than on top. It made my bird feel more secure since the stick was coming from below, where he can monitor it better compared to above his head. Great and educational video!

    Fabulous job. I have a Derbyan who is now one year old. He’s scary smart, and an amazing talker. He picks up whole sentences easily, and is an incredible flier. Jujube is also what I would say a more “nervous” bird, quick to startle. He has a piercing natural call as loud as a cockatoo and goes through macaw-sized wood toys in hours. It’s very hard to keep him occupied because he’s so smart and a voracious chewer. And he’s getting his adult colors in, and looks absolutely stunning.

    • @LunarSafi
      @LunarSafi ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a Derbyan too and he’s like yours. Big talker and goes through toys quickly. He was also pretty nervous when I first got him but I was able to gain his trust with time and training. I found that what occupies him the most are toys with charms or multiple pieces. He loves taking them apart and putting them together

    I need one of these little sticks, & I've heard several times it's simply a chop stick. I will be ordering Chinese this week to acquire a few. Definitely looks like it saves the fingers, especially working with older rescues on simple step ups when they've been caged their whole lives.

I watched your video on training the cockatiel to spin about 100 times - it was amazing, because it step-by-step showed how to make the cockatiel do that trick. Now my little guy does it perfectly. But what next? I truly don't know what else to teach him now, and there aren't that many good step-by-step trick videos out there like that cockatiel spin video.
    Just a thought - some of us are looking for ideas and how-tos beyond free flight and behaviour! How do we get them to wave? How do we train to go through a hoop? The cockatiel spin video is honestly the best one!!

    My parrotlet who I’ve had for around a week likes being around me but still bites me. If I put him in his cage he’s unhappy, if I leave the room he doesn’t like it. But when I am there and finally let him out he calms down but he mostly wants to be with me, on my shoulder, chest, arm, leg, etc, but when he is he just bites. Like I’ll be doing nothing and he’ll come fly to my shoulder and bite my ear. Same thing goes for training. I give him plenty of space to leave if he wants and don’t shove my hands in his face and he doesn’t have any angry or scared body language but he still goes at my hands if he can reach them. I can get him to step up with treats but once the treats go away he just starts nipping again. He loves scritches which is about the only thing I can do to get him to stop biting. Any advice on why he’s doing this?

    It will be nice when I can get my cockatiel out of it's cage. I can leave the cage door or the top open all day, and he won't come out. I'm working on diet conversion. He will let me stand in front of his cage with hissing at me, but if I talk or touch the cage, he hisses. So every day when I feed him and give him fresh water, I push thru his threshold. I got excited because I was able to get close enough for him to touch the target stick, and he did, but I have not been able to repeat it. I just have to give it time, as we just started diet conversion a month ago. I can't even get close to him to give him a reward. I have gotten him to bite a millet spray twice.

    I don't like how the girl behaves. She's fast and hectic, seemingly making it about her and not making any emotional connection with the bird. When she shoved her fist in the cage, for instance, it seemed to frighten the bird. She needs to get in her bird's state of mind and try to feel what the bird feels at the moment. Unless she develops that kind of bond with the bird, she won't be a good owner. Sometimes, I think it's the new owners who need lessons about their own behavior more than the bird's.
