In 1892, tuberculosis was the leading cause of death in the United States and was thus one of the era’s most feared diseases. Then known as “consumption,” its symptoms were fatigue, night sweats, and the coughing up of white phlegm or even foamy blood.
The folks in these parts were superstitious - not knowing the scientific facts behind the disease, they believed that “…some unexplained and unreasonable way in some part of the deceased family member's body, live flesh and blood might be found, which is supposed to feed on the living who are in feeble health.”
And so, when Mercy Brown's family started dying off one by one, they blamed her - even though she'd been dead for months.
Don't miss the blooper at the end! :))

You cover many such topics as well as other .. er... oddities..So your channel is well up my alley.. Unforrtunately "what's trending" is always a selection of the lowest common denominator :sigh:
And yes, I noticed that survey was biased to only providing a negative response.. of course it was designed that way so that they could get the response they wanted.. common in weighted surveys. Very few are designed to honestly find out the real publics' opinions, as I'm sure almost *everybody* knows ..

Anyone can sit in front of a camera and film themselves opening a box. But your videos clearly take hard work, talent, research, and dedication.
As a long-time fan, I certainly appreciate and enjoy your content. I sincerely hope you do not get discouraged enough to stop making videos. My grandmother has been gone many years now but she told me she was very young when her mother died and that she suffered a long painful death and that they laid her out in their parlour and she remembers cats screeching that night and it terrified her. The Father also must have been most upset to know his Family were being treated in that manner. I think that is really disgusting of Google to have questions such as those, they should have worded the question what do you like or dislike about this thumbnail not just ask what people dislike, that's awful and very wrong in my opinion. Yes I remember my great grandmother born in 1912 said "consumption" killed her entire young family except her. Husband and daughter (and a previous daughter was killed by what we think was meningitis). She married at 15 and was a childless widow by 19. Married my great grandfather at the ripe old age of 24 and luckily all her children lived from that marriage and was married for a little over 60 years(!). But man what a terrible thing to have gone through her first marriage. In the end, of the 2 children, boy and girl, she had in her 2nd marriage, she outlived the boy too by 4 years at 94. He died at 64. So only one child survived her. :( She was tough as nails though...for a while there I thought she'd outlive us all.

From someone who has been to her grave, as we locals called it" Vampires grave" , Mercy is still there and there has not been any recent vampire killings. Southern New England has a lot of ghost stories. Between movies and books, many are mainstream. The conjuring house in Burriville Rhode Island was down the road from my uncles house, in the 70s. My cousin told me and my sisters that the witch will follow us home if we didn't behave. So, I was so scared of that house.

Enjoyed the post, Oddie. I recently saw a documentary called Vampire Legend and within the LAST 10 YEARS an isolated rural community in Romania freed a harried neighbor by, oh, yes, oh, yes, exhuming the vampire, cutting the head off the body and burning the heart. Problem solved! 😱 And when you call the trending posts "rubbish", IMHO you're being much too kind. The youth of the world is being culturally lobotomized. Sad.

Teachers that can't teach without a tablet, computer or laptop.

You're so correct with your observation. TH-cam doesn't event have an option to report fake users. This is also the reason why 'trashy' vloggers earn more and gets promoted more rather than channels that allow people to learn like yours. I always encounter fake users (impersonators) responding to my comments with the audacity of using the SAME name of the creator that I am commenting on(usually happens in music artists acct)!
Edit: they do have options to report the user but the link is noteven working when you click submit!
