    Joan and Patricia came into this world together,
    and seemed determined to leave it the same way.
    To us peering at their lives through the medium of the internet,
    their choice of lifestyle might seem bizarre -
    but then we can come to the conclusion that
    they really didn't need anyone else in their lives.
    Anyone can die, but not everyone can live as the twins had lived,
    with a love for each other that few could understand.
    Oddie Beau's ODDNESS Urban exploration & famous historical features! vintage crime cases & eccentric people from the past! ...and other weird stuff :) ....a dusty store window, filled with ancient alluring oddities. Once you've entered, you'll never want to leave. Quality over quantity.

    When I was about 8, we had an elderly brother and sister who lived across a dirt ally and field from us. Their house was big, but faced another street and I rarely saw them. On Halloween, they gave out full sized candy bars. They were kind, quiet and kept to themselves. We saw an ambulance and police there one day, and learned that the brother had passed away sometime before in his armchair. His sister had notified no one, and only after someone called in a welfare check was he found. They took her away and we never heard from or saw her again. They had only distant relatives and the house sat silent and empty for around 5 years til it was finally sold.
    It was such a strange, scary thing for me at the time, and so sad to my heart.

      @@warmlantern0000 that was my thought. Back in the day a few brother sister living arrangements in villages I grew up in, weren't really normal brother & sister relationships at all, but people back then seemed oblivious. As I became a teen I kind of twigged but went with the general 'we don't see/mention the obvious' vibe .

    I'm an identical twin and I know that the twin bond is hard for many people who aren't twins to understand. My sister and I shared such a bond. We had a private language that only we understood. Our parents discouraged it once we entered school though because they were afraid our teachers would find it weird. Although Carol and I moved in the same circles and had friends and were sociable, we enjoyed just being together, the two of us. We would pack a lunch (even as young children), take our horses or sometimes our bikes, and spend the day riding and picnicking together. When Carol was diagnosed with breast cancer, I took care of her. During chemo, I would cook her meals, do her laundry and sometimes bathe her because it made her very weak. Five years later, she passed away. I was with her when she took her last breath. I can't really describe the feeling I had when she died. It was like being hit in the gut with a hammer. She has been gone for eleven years and I still haven't been able to come to terms with being a single. I had always been part of a pair. Poor Joan and Patricia...that they had to die like that is so horrible.

    I’m a female only child raised by a single mother, and I understand “ singular “ thinking. I don’t have a need for anyone in my life (friends) outside of my immediate family ( husband/children) so these sisters being non social doesn’t bother me one bit, it’s NOT odd at all. What a sad story, these women were quite beautiful, weren’t they?

      Well, if they had allowed more people in their lives, they might have discovered the existence of ``heating assistance'' or more programs. Surprised the social workers even knew about the reclusive gals. Probably the girls used hospital at some point, is how they got on the radar of that ``service,'' or maybe one of the workers knew of them thru census work or ``neighborhood watch.''

      I know exactly how you feel. I was always a longer as a kid (ended up being diagnosed with ADHD/mild ASD at 19 so kinda made sense) and I ended up meeting a fellow loner and now we’re married. We rarely see others, we don’t really have friends or at least spend time with the few close people in our lives. It’s not considered normal but it works for us both. Everyone seems to think “the quiet ones” or the introverts are weird and suspicious but we’re not as unusual as media makes it out to be.

    As a twin, I understand the bond they had. Although my twin sister is more social than I am, she needs to be around people, I'm a hermit, and am fine with my pets. Opposite personalities, but so much the same too. We feel each other's emotions, good and bad, even though we're in different states We know when the other one needs a "hey, how are you doing?". We can even feel physical pain too. Yeah, we've been told that's weird, but it's all we know, we don't know what it would be like to not have that bond. I love being twins.

    • @FailingArtist
      @FailingArtist 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Same! Although we don’t feel physical pain. But we can tell if the other one is emotionally troubled, even though we live 4 hrs away. It’s just a sense, right?? Our 6th sense lol
      And yep!- I always say that too- “it’s all we know!”

    • @millana100
      @millana100 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Expect that the "bond they had" seems to be rooted in mental illness. Also, being an extreme recluse isn't the same as being an introvert. Their deaths are truly tragic and I wish that she had accepted help (care) for both herself and her sister in their older years. Caring for someone with dementia can be very draining.

      Kathy, my twin and I had much the same thing going on, though we rarely lived apart while she was alive. We finished each other's sentences and sometimes, if one bumped herself, the other had a bruise in the same spot. Being a twin was so much fun!

      @@Cheryltwin2012 yes, being a twin is great. I've heard of twins who would get each other's bruises like that. Although we felt the bumps, we didn't bruise unless we were the one actually bumping something. Which did actually happen quite a lot, we're both klutzes...lol

    What a perfect Friday night. After a week of temperatures up into the 100's degrees Fahrenheit in northern MN, the heat finally broke w an amazingly creepy thunderstorm. I KNEW I could count on you, Oddie, for another perfectly delivered story to help me get drowsy. What lovely sisters who now, thanks to you, ...hopefully will be remembered that way.
    Thank you for my bedtime tale,
    Goodnight

      We’ve had similar weather here in Switzerland, and then on Thursday night we had a big storm - Friday was nice and cool as it is today but it’s going to get hotter again.
      I’m so glad you enjoyed the presentation and wish you pleasant dreams.

    Beautifully illustrated and told as always Oddie. I’m so sorry to hear Odette is in hospital…I understand the stress and difficulty. Richard recently spent a month in hospital with MRSA. Fortunately he has recovered and is back home. I would love nothing more than we four around a table with beer, wine, and good food. Much love, light, and healing to you both.🖤🇨🇦

      hi Tamara, this video was an older Patreon video from 1.5 years ago, at that time Odette was recovering from surgery but she’s fine now. Thank you so much.
      I’m so sorry to hear of Richard’s continuing health problems, but I’m relieved that he is back at home and recovering. Yes I totally agree, we would love to be able to see you both again. We hold out hope that that can happen sometime in the future. At the moment we are on a road trip travelling through the Alps. Stay safe and all our blessings. 💚☀️🙏🇨🇭

    Happy to hear Odette is doing good, and all is better in your world. I was quite intrigued with the twins story, and as always you did a bang up job. I thought the story of Spade Cooley fit right in with the whole thing, and I do remember his name while growing up, but barely. I don't remember the twins though, or hearing anything of them. Although the twins may have lived, what most of us an odd life, we have to think about even just sisters, or brothers with out being twins live together in the same way at times. I think it's just the comfort you may feel in its self. Hope I made sense. LOL

    My name is Patricia, and my sister was Janice. Though she was 8 years older than me, we were often taken for twins. I found out when she passed away that our neighbours called us twiddle dum and tweedle Dee as we were always together. I do miss her.

    What a fascinating story. My dad was a twin and they lived parallel lives in many way. My dad was in the military and served for twenty-nine year. He was a pilot a flew many missions in WWll, Korea, was in Japan during the Occupation and then later sent to Vietnam where he was killed in action. His twin(a sister) said she would die next and she died eighteen months later. She had been in excellent health and was taken ill suddenly and passed away in less than a week. They were close and she said she often felt certain emotions that she did not understand but they always led back to my dad. They were separated sometimes by thousands of miles but she still felt him close to her. I remained very close to her and felt as though I had a little bit of my dad with me. Her passing shattered my world once again yet life moves forward while their memories are ever planted in of heart. Prayers for Oddette that she will become stronger every day. God bless you both.

    I have a 27 year old set of twins who live together, work at the same place, and have the same few friends in common. I definitely worry about them becoming like these twins. I have always hoped that they would fall in love and start their own families and lives. It actually makes me sad for them. My oldest son, however, has a wonderful partner and two beautiful children.
