@@wil2560yeah, it turned out the widow was another vampire independent from Max and his sires, she turned him during one of their visits after the first movie
It's interesting to me that Claudia from 'Interview with the Vampire' was an inspiration for the (at least initial version of) the screenplay; she becomes an adult woman in a child's body and yet in this movie the vampires' minds seem to freeze at the ages at which they were turned. They're not adults in teenage bodies who behave like teenagers to keep a cover, they really are teenagers. I often think that 'The Lost Boys', more than other vampire fiction, really digs into the idea of vampirism as eternal youth specifically, and the 'Peter Pan' allusions are the perfect way to explore that.
The same is true for the Twilight series - it is illegal to turn children (or anyone else) into a vampire if they are not mentally capable of following the vampire code/law and keeping vampires a secret.

24:11 Not only is this a reveal that Grandpa knows about the vampires, and might be a vampire hunter, but there's subtle hints that he might be a half-vampire himself. He might have been bitten in a previous encounter but has since managed his symptoms. I’ve got two fun facts: 1.) Michael’s actor Jason Patric is the son of Jason Miller, who was Father Karras in the Exorcist. 2.) Joel Schumacher was going to make a direct sequel called The Lost Girls, but he never got the chance to make it. It would’ve brought back David, which is why his death is the only onscreen vampire death that doesn’t end with the body getting destroyed.
I'd love to see The Lost Girls still happen, even if Joel is no longer with us. Maybe someone out there can honor him with it though. I like the idea that David is leading a group of Lady Vamps. Might be a good way to tackle the issues of prostitution and sex trafficking.

There was a book released along with this movie that gives more info on characters and backstory. - When Michael was being hazed by the guys and convinced he was eating maggots, he was high as David offered him a smoke. He was sitting down having visions before the scene so he was more open to accepting the things he saw weren't real. - Star was never dating David. David found her while she was homeless on the beach and she feels like she owes him. Star was actually closer with Paul who she said always made her laugh and assured her they were getting Michael and Sam to join them as brothers. She comments that the other two members of the gang, Marco and Dyawne, usually ignored her. - Michael spent a lot of time with the gang in the book. It shows his transforming happening over months and some extra scenes like Star piercing his ear and David coming across Michael and Star after they spent the night together. it awkward but David's just chill with it which i guess further proves he wasn't dating Star (or is super open). - There's more scenes of Lucy and Grandpa including backstory. Lucy was a hippie who ran away to be with Michael and Sam's dad and Grandpa was uptight. The last time Lucy saw her dad was at her mother's funeral where he fought with her husband but she says he was smart and proper like always. So when she sees how easy going and laid-back he is it is a shock to her. - There are hints in the book that the boys kidnap/kill/feed so much because they just like the slaughter. They typically tear their victims apart rather than bite at the wrist or neck which means they don't actually drink that much blood.

Thank you for spotlighting Tim Cappello!! The song he did with Gunship is amazing and actually has a "The Lost Boys" themed animated music video that's really cool. I encourage anybody who likes 90's vampire movie nostalgia to look up the official music video "GUNSHIP - Dark all day feat Tim Cappello".
Fun fact: The "Murder Capital of the World" thing was inspired by Santa Cruz, CA, which during the 70's was the hunting ground of a couple serial killers (Edmund Kemper and Herbert Mullin, nasty pieces of work) and a mass murderer (John Linley Frazier). And yeah, this movie is a must watch if you're into vampires and/or 80's nostalgia.
15:15 it actually featured Claudia, who was between the ages of 5 and 86… but yes, stuck in the body of a little girl the whole time. Carmilla is a different book about vampires
"They want to know are you making a horror or a comedy?" "Go back and tell them 'yes'" Is the orignal YES thing that you see going around. How far we've come.
Fun Fact about Tim Capello's appearance: Joel Schumacher really wanted "I Still Believe" to be in the movie, but the original band, The Call, was a Christian band that didn't really want anything to do with vampires. Schumacher knew of Capello from Tina Turner's music videos so he asked Capello if he wanted to be in the movie. Capello loved the song and already knew it backwards and forwards. He did his performance in one take, in and out in an hour.
Now that it is firmly established, I just wanted to say that I love the new intro line. “…And show you how they were made” really shows how much the channel has grown
I feel bad for Joel Schumacher. Not only did he seem like a really nice guy, but aside from his Batman movies he was a halfway decent director. This movie is great, Falling Down is great and I honestly thought Phantom of the Opera was okay. Wherever he is, I hope he's at least proud of what he did right.
I 100% agree with you man, i mean, Batman Forever is at least enjoyable thanks to Carrey's Riddler and Tommy Lee Jones Two Face. Falling Down and The Lost Boys are his two best movies, i also very found of 8mm as well. Joel Schumacher's work will live forever. RIP
He also directed A Time to Kill when Samuel L. Jackson killed his daughter's rapists for not going to jail, and Matthew McConaughey defends him in court. Underrated Joel Schumacher film.
Agree, except I think his Batman movies are way better than what people say. Not great by any means, but the things people complain about them were definitely intentional.
4:00 "and we're just gettin' started Baby! We got girls gone showering, guys gone loitering, butts, Johnny Stocksville, BIG 'OLE FUCKIN' HATS, a lady makin' out with a rat, and trampoline jail cells, fun!! this is literally peak commentary that's why I love James so much
I believe that's supposed to be "Johnnies Knoxville" (like "Attorneys General") because riding in a shopping cart was a recurring theme in Jackass stunts.
Fun fact about that single tear that Sutherland cries when he gets burned. those contacts were actually why. they hurt his eyes so much that it made him tear up in the scene and they thought, “Well, we got to use that. It looks great.”
I mean, it's always Lucy and Mina, so go figure. Kinda ticked it's a clip of the 1992 film, but not with the full title. Bram Stoker's Dracula. Kinda hard to miss. But, it's a minor tick and I still love the video.
I just want to say thank you for covering this kill count because this is one of my favorite movies from when I was a kid. I've been waiting for 7 years for this. Did a excellent job once again! Can't wait for what the future holds😊
After watching this movie so many times and knowing every line of dialogue, I can finally confirm that watching this kill count is not really the same as watching the actual movie, it's still fun to hear James' commentary, jokes, and BTS info, but that will never replace the pure enjoyment I get out of watching the movie itself.
This movie was my cousins favorite. Anytime we came and spent the weekend with us he'd request to watch the movie over and over again. We lost him about a year ago and this movie has become a comfort to our whole family when we miss him extra. So happy to see it get a kill count
Met Corey Feldman at a horror con last year and confessed to him (on camera for a YT short) that I'd never seen Lost Boys, and he jokingly chewed me out saying, "How has anyone not seen Lost Boys?" Glad to say that a few months later, I finally watched it and damn do I love it!
Yeah I'm now hearing all this about Corey Feldman being an asshole now (probably though his career but I personally never heard anything until recently.) This is why I'm a Corey Haim fan like if you look up old interviews before he died he was such a nice genuine person and it's disappointing that Hollywood got him.
Man The Lost Boys has been coming full circle with me lately. Not only is it one of my favorite films, and all of my favorite TH-camrs have been covering it lately, but Jami Gertz herself is enrolled in my Drawing class...I'm literally teaching Jami Gertz Art and Design!!!
I’ve waited so long for this kill count. This movie holds a special place in my heart as it’s the very first horror film I watched as a child. Thank you James and the rest of the Dead Meat team for covering this wonderful film!
I’ve always tried to gatekeep this movie as it’s my favorite of all time and a way for ppl my age (teens) to not ruin the fandom, I love having this type of connection when speaking to people born in 80s-90s and the fandoms nowadays are just bizarre, when I saw this on my youtube feed my heart dropped😂😂😂
Cry Little Sister is such a great song, a lesser song dropped that many times in a movie coulda sunk it but literally helps carry the energy from act one to get through act 2 IMO.
Dwayne's death was my absolute favourite. He operates the movie all chill, but as the film goes on we see more of his chaotic side, and his death was the greatest. Sparkles and music blaring all over the place.
Didn’t think of Dwayne like that glad you mentioned it, as David is chaotic Ina calm way as human, but as vampire he’s using his powers too there full advantage and is the most dangerous one.
A shirtless, oiled up, sax playing James was never something I thought I needed, but I'm living for it!!! I still believe this is in my like top 3 of vampire movies EVER!
Tim Capello I actually met few weeks ago, nicest guy I ever met. he was doing a solo set at a bar and a bunch of people were there. Yes he performed I still believe from the lost boys. Afterwards he took the time to meet some people. I hopped in line early so I was near the front, my turn comes and I told him about seeing the lost boys a few weeks ago and telling him “I still think that scene you were in is my favorite from the movie. You were groovin so hard. The fact you had to go up there in the movie shirtless and oiled up man, I want your confidence.” We took a pic together afterwards.
I'm glad I had this on VHS as a kid. I watched it when my folks weren't home (mom thought I'd get nightmares, but I was already suffering from recurring nightmares), and I fell in love with the music and the movie. I also love the ending with the grandpa. Since my bf watched this, he loves listening to Cry Little Sister. As much as I like the original version, I do like the 2 covers done by Season's After.
Pedantic point but Claudia, not Carmella, was the name of the young vampire in Anne Rice's Interview with a Vampire. Phenomenal work as always Dead Meat team!
Pedantic point to your pedantic point: it’s spelled “Carmilla,” not “Carmella.” ;P He also name-dropped Lucy from Dracula while showing a clip of Mina, the other main woman from that story. D’oh.
NGL, I’ve never seen this movie and always thought that “You’re dead meeeaaat!” clip was actually Spike from Buffy. Also, James looks really good as a biker with an earring.
Something worth noting. You had mentioned that garlic has no effect on the vampires in this movie, but Max points out that this was only because he was invited into the house which renders any attacks on him powerless. At least that's how I remembered it being explained.
You make a great point. If it was any other song, I'd be saying, "Really, again?" but feel free to play CRYYYY LITTLE SISTER as many times as you need. It fits this movie so well, like Top Gun and Danger Zone or Transformers the Movie and The Touch.
I would love to see a People Under the Stairs Kill count! The theme is SUPER relevant, and as a huge Rottweiler fan and owner, Prince is one of the best Rotties to ever appear on the silver screen! A gimp suit and shotgun? What more do you need?
This is one of my favorite movies ever! I also think that the relationship between Sam and Michael is the cornerstone of the film and that is why it is such a classic.
I had a friend who used to call me Michael because of this movie. She and I had quite the fascination with Feldman/Haim, we would watch either The Lost Boys or Stand by Me almost every Friday night for more than a year.
I met both Kiefer Sutherland and Jason Patric at a comic con. Two very nice guys. I also went to the Santa Cruz boardwalk on a trip to California once as a kid and I found out years later that it was also where The Lost Boys was filmed and thought it was so cool
@20:07, hence the tear Kiefer Sutherland sheds: that was REAL and the contact lenses were THAT painful (of course, a piece of dust in the eye is painful)
I love this movie for all the obvious reasons but as someone who deals with psychosis i genuinely use the takeout scene to explain to people what im going through. Gotta give it extra props for that!
Hi James you may be interested in knowing that the actor whom played "Michael" Jason Patic is the son of Jason Miller the younger priest in the exorcist. He is also the grandson of Jackie Gleason. BTW Thank you for covering lost boys
This movie holds the record for me seeing one film the most times in the theater - 29. A theater near my house was going out of business at the time, and had $4 tickets that also included all you can eat popcorn and soft drinks with it - I think a group of friends and I went every night for 3 straight weeks at least haha. The movie never got boring to us, either. James - magnificent "to the numbers" transition - definitely a top 10 for me hah
After my dad introduced me to this movie when I was a kid, I proceeded to watch it every single night for 6 months straight. And even now I’m never tired of watching it
Yes but it’s not really a comparable front other than the premise of vampires. That’s like comparing teen wolf and ginger snaps 2. Just because they include lycanthropes doesn’t mean they’re comparable.
Not a hard bar to clear with vampires and horror. Twilight is just Paper Towns but stretched out over several movies and replace normal people with immortals. If I were a betting man I would say the difference is a person actually WROTE Lost Boys lol.
Legitimately one of the best kill counts you’ve done! Same. That's something my siblings would say 😂
Fun Fact about Tim Capello's appearance:
Joel Schumacher really wanted "I Still Believe" to be in the movie, but the original band, The Call, was a Christian band that didn't really want anything to do with vampires. Schumacher knew of Capello from Tina Turner's music videos so he asked Capello if he wanted to be in the movie. Capello loved the song and already knew it backwards and forwards. He did his performance in one take, in and out in an hour.

Producers: ''Is it a horror movie or a comedy?''
Joel Shumacher: ''Yes''
Absolute Legend. The dude invented the meme 40 years before it existed.
Now that it is firmly established, I just wanted to say that I love the new intro line. “…And show you how they were made” really shows how much the channel has grown
Sleep all day
Party all night

It's fun to be a vampire.
Such a iconic tagline for such a iconic movie
The 69 Eyes - Lost Boys
That David Powers guy is intimidating. I bet he could take on like.. 29 other horror villains at once and win.
royal rumble ha
David and M3gan tag team?
Underrated Joel Schumacher film.
died June 22nd 2020. rip 🫡
Agree, except I think his Batman movies are way better than what people say. Not great by any means, but the things people complain about them were definitely intentional.
Phone Booth, too. One of my favorite small scale thrillers.
Claudia is the name of the young vampire girl in IWTV, not Carmilla, also the lady in the Dracula clip isn’t Lucy that’s Mina lol
Came to say this I named my younger daughter after that character
Lol lol
Yep, Carmilla is the first "lesbian" vampire, written before even Dracula.

this is literally peak commentary that's why I love James so much
I believe that's supposed to be "Johnnies Knoxville" (like "Attorneys General") because riding in a shopping cart was a recurring theme in Jackass stunts.
Fun fact about that single tear that Sutherland cries when he gets burned. those contacts were actually why. they hurt his eyes so much that it made him tear up in the scene and they thought, “Well, we got to use that. It looks great.”
Well then, here's another fun fact for you, he played Big Boss Snake from the *Metal Gear Solid 5* video game

*Show's clip of Dracula approaching Mina.*
Great review! Love Dead Meat!
I mean, it's always Lucy and Mina, so go figure.
Kinda ticked it's a clip of the 1992 film, but not with the full title. Bram Stoker's Dracula.
Kinda hard to miss.
But, it's a minor tick and I still love the video.
Will always love the ending especially the fact the grandfather always knew there was a vampire problem and the way the movie goes to dark.
Right? That was like a punchline to the whole movie. 😅
I'm so sorry for your loss, but I'm glad you have this movie to remember him by.
I know but he's my favorite horror icon
@@HL-tf2ot Feldman is rather misunderstood
Man The Lost Boys has been coming full circle with me lately. Not only is it one of my favorite films, and all of my favorite TH-camrs have been covering it lately, but Jami Gertz herself is enrolled in my Drawing class...I'm literally teaching Jami Gertz Art and Design!!!
im serious when i say ive been waiting 5 and a half years for this one kill count alone, one of my favourite movies ever
The “uncut gems” reference was absolutely hilarious
Thank you James!!! 😂
I’ve waited so long for this kill count. This movie holds a special place in my heart as it’s the very first horror film I watched as a child.
Thank you James and the rest of the Dead Meat team for covering this wonderful film!
This was my first horror movie too! It's my second favorite movie of all time!
I feel that the tear that David cries wasn't from the pain of the sunlight, but on losing one of his brothers.
Cry Little Sister is such a great song, a lesser song dropped that many times in a movie coulda sunk it but literally helps carry the energy from act one to get through act 2 IMO.
The entire movie soundtrack CD is great
And its official. My favorite part of this entire video is 23:40 . That Lucy seems like the sweetest little fatty ever! 😄😺❤
That sax man bit instantly made this video 100000000/10.
Thank you for finally covering one of my favorite movies of all time :)

8:00 “yer’ fond of me lobster ain’t ya?” cracked me up man. love the editing of these vids please keep it up :)
Pedantic point but Claudia, not Carmella, was the name of the young vampire in Anne Rice's Interview with a Vampire. Phenomenal work as always Dead Meat team!
Pedantic point to your pedantic point: it’s spelled “Carmilla,” not “Carmella.” ;P
He also name-dropped Lucy from Dracula while showing a clip of Mina, the other main woman from that story. D’oh.
NGL, I’ve never seen this movie and always thought that “You’re dead meeeaaat!” clip was actually Spike from Buffy.
Also, James looks really good as a biker with an earring.
You're missing out my friend
8:00 love that lighthouse quote
Imagine watching every Dead Meat video in order of when the movies were released
I'll be damned, Joel Schumacher was the originator of the "yes" meme😂😂
Studio: Are you making a horror or a comedy
Joel: Yes...
Studio: How many times do you want people to say "Michael"
Joel: Yes
Criminally underrated director and legendary LGBTQ icon. Rest in peace. :(
Something worth noting. You had mentioned that garlic has no effect on the vampires in this movie, but Max points out that this was only because he was invited into the house which renders any attacks on him powerless. At least that's how I remembered it being explained.
The vampire that died in the bath said that garlic didn’t work
@@christocrippin yep. You're right. I was going off memory thinking it was just from the "Parmesan" test after Max was invited into the house.
@christopherdash9077 the water was holy water. Holy water still works.
@@sarahhenry1845 I know
If no attacks work after being invited in, why did he die when staked by grandpa? That seems a massive loophole
You make a great point. If it was any other song, I'd be saying, "Really, again?" but feel free to play CRYYYY LITTLE SISTER as many times as you need. It fits this movie so well, like Top Gun and Danger Zone or Transformers the Movie and The Touch.
I'm so happy you guys are covering this movie, one of my all time favorites

I've never appreciated James dressing as characters more than I have today
Also i love Molly's little jumper
I would love to see a People Under the Stairs Kill count! The theme is SUPER relevant, and as a huge Rottweiler fan and owner, Prince is one of the best Rotties to ever appear on the silver screen! A gimp suit and shotgun? What more do you need?
I’ve been emailing requesting The People Under the Stairs since the channel first started
This is one of my favorite movies ever! I also think that the relationship between Sam and Michael is the cornerstone of the film and that is why it is such a classic.
“Wow, this is like an actually sexy version of that scene from The Room” had me HOWLING🤣🤣🤣
10:06, Don't hate on SPace Jam, dude. I grew up with it.
8:00 GOD I was not expecting that Lighthouse audio edit. That cracked me the hell up, great joke
This movie is the reason why I love vampire and werewolf movies
24:29 YESSSSSS THE SAX

And even now I’m never tired of watching it
I still believe The Lost Boys is at least 1000 times better than the entire Twilight saga
Yes but it’s not really a comparable front other than the premise of vampires. That’s like comparing teen wolf and ginger snaps 2. Just because they include lycanthropes doesn’t mean they’re comparable.
You’re missing at least a few zeros
@@Cottagefairycoreoff topic but I love the Ginger Snaps franchise.
More like 10000000000000000000%
Not a hard bar to clear with vampires and horror. Twilight is just Paper Towns but stretched out over several movies and replace normal people with immortals. If I were a betting man I would say the difference is a person actually WROTE Lost Boys lol.
Don’t forget about his masterpiece in my opinion falling down, which is a terrifying movie on so many levels
Legitimately one of the best kill counts you’ve done! I love discovering/watching movies I’ve never seen before because of this show and my favorite part is getting to hear all the production info, which is why I’m studying Video Production in school in the first place. Thanks for years of great content!

4:26 Thank you I needed that laugh so bad today 😂
Just a quick thing
The vampire child in Interview with a vampire is Claudia not Camellia.
Camellia is an entirely different vampire from an 1872 Gothic novel.
Anyway, love the channel! ❤
Also, when they made the Lucy reference to Bram Stoker’s Dracula, wasn’t that Mina, not Lucy ? I could be confused 🤔
Mina and Lucy are both characters in Dracula. In the movie at least she is turned and staked.
@@mayramartin702Yes, that was Mina, as played by Lydia Deetz/Stranger Thing’s Joyce Byers herself: Winona Ryder. Goodness, I was in love with her during the 90’s.
At any rate, Lucy was the redhead in that movie. So, yeah. Another flub on the Dead Meat team’s account. Whoops.
1. James really cranked up the sexy in this one. It all definitely works dude.
2. Love the scorigami reference
"Johnny's Knoxville" and buff James had me rolling 😂😂😂
