  • This Patio in Milford, Ohio had several issues that were putting it in danger of being torn down to the frame and rebuilt by the customers.
Cracks and Weathering , Hairlines , loose nails and screws , uv damage , loose boards , rotten boards , fastener corrosion , and more ....
Also not least of this decks problems was peeling behr deckover. ,a thick deck rescue paint marketed mainly to homeowners since the 90s .... and still sold today...
The problem when behr deck over peels and fails is that it's thick and leaves a very patchy deck surface . in areas there may be none , and in other areas it may be loose and peeling, or have such good adhesion that it's not easily removed.
It's a puzzle for most , they are unsure of what to do , it's thickness makes it not easily coated over without major problems , it's areas with good adhesion tend to be really good and would cause thousands of dollars in labor to remove , or force replacement all together ,
the deck owner ends up lost somewhere between " I'm going to sand this thing " and " I'm going to replace this thing". However the cost of either or leaves them speechless and with no actionable way to resolve.

Deckover and every other paint or stain on earth is a non-breathable petroleum based plastic coating. These exterior plastic finishes will peel every time if and when water becomes trapped between the wood and the plastic coating. Every nail and crack in the wood is an opportunity to trap moisture. Linseed oil paint/stains are the only finish that is breathable and therefore will not trap moisture. Linseed oil paints are made in Scandinavia and cost about a $75 a quart.
