I’ve had to do this repair on both my Mercedes! My W116 (450SEL) and my W107. Fun stuff. When I first got my SL I was driving home smelling raw gas and parked it, popped my head under for a look and saw the fuel dripping! I was like I could have blown up! It was the fuel lines going into the filter and the one from the tank. Oh boy! Real fun draining 3/4 tank of gas… I used Rubbermaid container and had my sons help me. The job went smoothly the ‘hardest’ part was draining the gas. Now my SEL is spewing gas on the exhaust manifold on the driver’s side. No fires thankfully caught it in time! Yay! It’s the supply line. I’m off to the dealer because I don’t have time for Autohausaz to ship lol. I order from them a lot, I love them. I’m subscribed to your awesome channel! 👍🏻💪🏻
Thanks Mike, this video answered a very important question for me about my SLK's fuel line. Your video put me in front of "one" of the problems with my fuel system replacement project. I'm a subscriber and fan.
I don't know Mike flat on your back again with your tool in your hand getting all dirty 👀👀😲. 10 out of 10 for the socket adapter improvising very impressed and it was good to see you didn't forget the little rubber protection 🤭. Hope you don't mind me asking but know your about to start a new position in your television stardom, have got to relocate if so how will you move all the cars or cut the fleet down. As always Mike love your work sunshine you always make me smile. Gary...... England 🇬🇧
I made a muffler one time. Luckily the hole was in the body and not on the end. I bought a sheet of metal that could bend from a hardware store. Wrapped it around the muffler, rolled the ends into each other, and crimped the end. I had to craw under the car to do it. As it turned out the muffler lasted longer than the exhaust pipe. I was in college and didn’t have much money.
In the famous words of Maxwell Smart from Get Smart “The old wrong new part in the right new part box trick”!! Been caught by that little gem a few times too Great video
This is a project I’m taking on with my 1991 560 SEL now. Did you drain the fuel from the fuel lines by the fuel filters or is there a drain plug somewhere?
Another great Video Mike, I was laughing 😂 when the Disco music 🎶 started playing, I was waiting for Erik Estrada to suddenly appear under the car with you Lol 😂
Awesome ya gotts ta love lying on your back with fuel running down your arms I think you should check those accumulators . Their probably toast enjoying your pain immensely. cheers
Not bad I had a youngish black lady doing house keeping in Vegas think i was a fine southern gent one time .she got suspicious and asked from where down south i was from i just said wwwwaaayyy down south . Had a good laugh
the fuel filter looks like a smaller version of the one in my dish washer :-) ..i like your SEC....when i got my driving license 1982....i got a volkswagen beetle....yeah the herbie version..air cooled flat twin. i was dreaming of the SEC´s predecessor.....a dream....i could never put to reality....the C107 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_R107_and_C107 i love that "fan" look in the rear side windows......and the sideline is sooooo sleek....
Sorry. I saw the dual fuel pump Bosch system, filter and banjo fittings (Begins crying) and blacked out. Don't remember much after that. Hope you were successful.
@@MonkeyWrenchMike So are all the other fittings judging by our mutual experiences. I will say that the system does work very well...when it works. The truly terrifying issues develop when they sit. As long as they're in motion several times a week, all remains well until the fuel pumps and/or injectors wear out, assuming regular maintenance, filter changes.
What a complicated fuel delivery system. All those filters & pumps cost money. The filter in the tank is a joke, what a flimsy material...it isn't going to last. Personally I would just remove the internal filter and rely on the external filter(s). But job well done. Loving the cool music. Are you taking all your cars to Tulsa? That will be some move.
On these kind of fuel system I'd rather renew fuel filters than replacing very expensive fuel distributor or fuel injectors just to name a few, and if i remember correctly on K and KE- JETRONIC fuel system there is another very fine screen fuel filter at inlet connection of the fuel distributor to ensure only clean fuels enters the sensitive components of the fuel system. Thanks for posting your very informative video. All the best and let's all stay away from covid. Cheers!!!
It was saying what it thinks of him having a BMW in a Mercedes driveway! Since Mike fixed his gas problem, you can safely walk behind him and not have the air smell bad!
Hi, I have a question about the metal line on the bottom pump. My 126 is leaking fuel from the left of that bar where it connects to the very short rubber hose. I had recently purchased the check valves but haven't had a chance to put them on could this be the problem or something else? Thanks Mike
Mike, I can't go through all of these comments. Simple question on the fuel tank strainer... and probably idiot question. Does that fuel tank need a full empty to do that replacement? I'm replacing both pumps, filter and accumulator. Seems to me that it's just one more step.
I replace my fuel pump on my w124 200TE and i was the SAME PUMP(but is just one).I don't know how 2000 cc 4 cylinder have the same pump.I got so much gas on me than i thought i smell like gas for two days.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your humor Mike! Thanks for putting a smile on my face! 😊 Joanne
Thanks Joanne!!

That music makes me want to find some platform shoes & bell bottoms like the cool kids wore in the 70’s.
Love your videos Magic Mike.
Mike you could so have a TV show on all of this, keep it going..
I like what you’re saying here!!!!

I thought it was a episode of chips, with all the disco music!!!!
Always fun to watch
Why do it feels like I'm going to be watching a 1980's tv show every time you play your music?
Cuz that’s when the free music is from! Lol
😂😂😂😂
You make it look easy Mike! Makes me want to go get a Copart Mercedes! Lol

Thanks for the video Mike. At 11:12 -11:13 in the upper right hand corner of the video, there's a loose hose hanging. What hose is that?

I need to replace all the hoses on mines rear and in the engine bay. Not sure of the sizes 😫
Job well done!!!💪
Fuel plumbing looks like my old 1979 VW rabbit, only one pump on the rabbit. Next time wear the 9mm HF gloves, I know they are hot in the summer.
I get it! Instead of trying to find the leak, just change all the damn hoses and you're bound to fix it... HA! 😁👍👍
The smaller hose from the gas tank was leaking. I changed the others because they were cracking and stiff.
@@MonkeyWrenchMike nothing worse than a hard and cracking hose. painfull😖😵🤣
Wow you shot up in subs like crazy mike! 😄👻

Ptrobably just the crush washers (one on each side of the check valve) or the shirt rubber hose has gone brittle and fuel is leaking there. Good luck!
@@MonkeyWrenchMike Thank you for the fast reply Mike will check hose and put valves on
Does the 560 need a Depends? It's old enough for them
That is a lot of work and the Germans make it complex. Ya done good...

And copyright free!! Lol
Great job like your videos

I cannot find any fuel tank strainers for my 300se, all i can find are strainers for diesels

Yes, tank must be empty unless you want a face full of gas.
Thanks a bunch.
That's not a fuel leak, she's just marking her territory...
You should be used to that owning a classic MG...
