- Kylo Sen Age Of Resistance is now out. Overall, I found the story to be less deep than I had hoped. Hopefully the Rise Of Kylo Ren will fill that void, but this isn’t a bad story by any means. This is only a tale about negotiations gone south as the First Order takes over an unknown planet in wild space.

Interesting that Kylo Ren killed their god and said, “now you worship the first order”. You’d expect someone in his position to say, “now you worship me”. I think it speaks to him wanting to be a part of something bigger and not thinking he’s larger than life like Vader did.

@Felipe La7 I get what ur saying, but plenty of people in the past have had extremely strong force powers, naturally, but they weren't fighting with it naturally like she does. That takes training. Plus yeah I agree with what @General Grievous said, a blaster shot should just make him stronger if anything especially when it isn't bad enough to be life threatening.

@General Grievous And so what if she has no training? Anakin didn't have any training when he basically destroyed an entire fleet through the power of the force he couldn't control.
I don't like the prequels but I'm just going to say, the force has always acted like a giant McGuffin. In Kotor 2 that was even the point of why Kreia wanted to destroy everything in the universe with a weapon she designed to syphon the force out of everything. Because she was tired of it leading her life around like a puppet on a string and she thought if there is no control I want to just freaking end everything. So the fact that Rey is stronger without any work than Kylo is like the perfect kind of absurdity a character like him needs to be given. He wants to work where he is, prove he's part of something larger, only to have it bashed away by someone that has it all without doing a thing. Rey isn't just a mary sue because she is strong, that isn't how things work, she still has struggles, she still wanted to know about her parents which drove her further into something that could manipulate her. Rey had failures, she didn't protect the people that were parental figures to her in her life.

Yoda had trouble force pulling his light saber too him because he was old. Yoda's entire race is force sensitive and they live on a planet where they disguise their location only letting a select few even near the thing. According to stories they don't do things nearly any different from Rey in the prime of their life. Yoda is on the end of his life by the start of Episode 1 in the first trilogy he is 900+ years old.
Rey wasn't a mary sue in the first 2 movies, now I haven't seen the new one so I can't say if she is now but there is more to a mary sue than just having power. A mary sue is perfect in every possible way, having no weakness even emotionally and having life itself handing everything to you. She lived on a planet where she thought she was abandoned by her parents. That's not perfect.
A person naturally strong in the force can still know instantly what to do though. There are examples of this. and it has to come from somewhere. The stronger you are in the force and the more you are exposed to it, the more you know. Again lets go back to Kotor this time the first one. Revan was considered by the jedi Counsel to be an entirely new person when his memory was erased, he shouldn't have had any knowledge of the force, yet He linked to Bastilla in a way that made him remember on an instinctual level all of his training as a jedi which made him master years of teachings in weeks. And in Kotor 2 literally every single person just became a jedi or a sith when you convinced them they were force sensitive. I could bring up examples from the comics not related to Kotor. Stuff like the Hutt Jedi and how he was naturally gifted at an early age and considered one of the most powerful until he turned and used it for crime.
Anakin was the strongest force user they knew of plenty of content suggests there were far stronger, people that had the ability to freaking move entire planets with the force. Anakin was the strongest person to live in at least 1000 years.

Even with Kylo killing the Zillow beast, Vader still proves himself the greater warrior in comparison to another big fucking monster getting slayed. Vader might have failed to kill the Zillow Beast of only god knows what back water planet this is, but he succeeded in Killing The Ender of Cianap. Not only did he slay the giant Godzilla shark/dragon beast thing, he did it SINGLE HANDEDLY, he had no troops to assist, no means of alternative transport to quickly gain vantage points or reach weak spots of the beast, or a way to shield himself from the fire being shat out of its mouth, other then his pure strength and control of the force. Plus Vader HIMSELF became the worshipped god of the unnamed people of Cianap, (unbeknownst to Vader of course) as he had subsequently free’d the people from the reign of The Ender by dicing the son of a bitch into a bunch of pieces.

Accomplishing what Vader couldn't is exactly what Kylo does in The Last Jedi when he kills his master and becomes the new ruler of the galaxy.

Thank you for covering this. I do get frustrated by the inconsistent depictions of Kylo. I guess people don't know how to draw such unique features? I do believe that information from both this comic and the Snoke comic will be relevant in IX. They have to be proactive about setting the ground work because there is no incentive to do it after the movie gets released.

So pumped about this comic. It reminds me of Season 2 Episode 18-19 Clone Wars.
Welp, my local comic book shop only opens when the owners wake up, which guess is like 2pm on weekends 🙄 so I haven't gotten my copy yet. But from this, I'm struck by what we've seen from Kylo Ren in the comics so far:
Hux comic: protects and saves Hux despite their enmity, is "like his mother" according to Hux
Snoke comic: destroys Dark Side cave rather than kill a vision of his parents
Kylo comic: enters the literal maw of a beast in a seemingly self-sacrificial act to destroy it
So the pattern I see here is:
Ben loves his mother
Ben destroys the Dark Side
Ben will sacrifice himself to face the existential threat
Bendemption, it's what's on the menu for TROS.

These comics are hard to believe when you see how easily Rey beats him
Think linearly. Kylo just killed his father which weakens his resolve in the Darkside. He also gets shot by the bowcaster which killed everyone but Kylo Ren. Why? He's using the force (novel) to stop his insides from spilling out. And as he's literally bleeding out, he loses to raw untamed power.
If you think for a bit rather than being upset by the simple fact a girl beat a boy, then the scene is fine.
@@ATATChat Plus in the Rise Of Kylo Ren comics, he mentioned to have been Luke's prized student. He bested all the other students in pretty much everything.
Well no one carries the same level of power all the time Vader was beaten by luke at the end , plus the writers of the movies had to show us that Rey is also special so they had to make defeat kylo which is not a clever senario and Kylo wasn't even trying to defeat her he was just testing her strength and wounded .
What i am liking about these comics (i didn't read them, but i follow you, SW explained, hellogreedo and others). It is that they seem to trully understand the characters development through the movies, these comics and some books i read are what hypes me the most about episode ix. The trailers hype me in a weird way: "i know i am gonna watch the movie anyways, but now i am worried i am not gonna enjoy it" and makes me talk about them, instead of just go to theaters when it comes out (if this make sense). Don't care about Palpatine, nor clones, nor "switch" to the dark side, etc.
For what i am hearing, the comics don't say anything about the characters that isn't already in the movies, but they show the characters with other words and in other ways. I like when Expanded universe is true to themes and conflicts, instead of plot and literal words.

Hmm, very interesting. I guess if we take a look at it metaphorically, it's the "land" Ben Solo finally proved himself to be worthy of following up his grandfather. But id have to give it more thought. 🙂

@Sam Ross I never said he wasn't, to have Vader's blood he would be strong. Yet in legends he is pitifully weak next to Jacen Solo or Darth Caedus. It's a shame Disney didn't follow that narrative more closely.

I think also addresses the fights between he and Rey. I’ve heard a lot of “he’s a whimp. He was beaten by an inexperienced girl.” Obviously he’s amazing! He beat a god! It puts his fights with Rey in a new perspective.
Kylo wasn't trying to kill her, hell snoke says "bring her to me" obviously he's not going to beat her into submission, you saw how easily he beat Finn, if kylo wasn't intrigued by her he would have won that fight.
Kylo was also shot by the bowcaster which as we have seen on multiple occasions one hit kills people and sends them flying 10 feet, yet he took it standing up bleeding out and fought Rey holding back as to not hurt her. While Rey was fighting to maim/ kill him for killing Han and hurting Fin.

Kylo is a darkside user, pain and wounds make them stronger. Vader was in a constant state of pain, so was Darth Sion: a litteral walking corpse who became nearly immortal by drawing power from his immense pain.
Also him not trying to kill her doesn’t mean he should get his ass wooped. Vader didn’t try to kill Luke in ESB and still handed it to him.
Also: Rey has no lightsaber experience

It was nice to see Kylo get a legitimately bad ass moment. He proudly continues the Skywalker Legacy of being EXTRA AS FUCK. Also I loved the reference to Clone Wars when Anakin takes on the Zilo beast and how it’s mirrored here in this issue.

Honestly Kylo seems to be trying to live up to Vader’s legend, but he’s a lot more impulsive and less calculating than Vader was.
I didn’t much care for his depiction in the Sequels. But the comics give the guy some depth and I personally consider them required reading, even if it makes the movies more confusing(like how did Snoke fall for that trick that got him killed?)

For sure. I get it too. I just think it looked odd. / Kind out of left field regarding kylos natural disposition. Perhaps he is a bit like this in Tros. But, it does actually make a lot of older lines from TFA TLJ sound like something Han would say if that were him .
This was a great story. Liked your analysis. I find the connection between Anakin and his grandson fascinating.
Kylo Ren is honestly an amazing character, I really think he only lost to Rey because of circumstance. Looking forward to the rematch in Rise if Skywalker

I have to be honest I kind of liked that they tried to make him smirk. We know Kylo's only goal is to live up to and surpass Vader's abilities. He is being acknowledged for doing what Vader wasn't able to do. He can't be giddy about it since he has his troops all around him but a smirk isn't out of left field since he is still a young guy who wants to be accepted.

I totally agree with you about the smirk. Yes, it could have been a nod to Han’s facial expressions but I didn’t get that vibe. Honestly, it reminded me of the ugly smirk on Snoke’s face in the last comic. I enjoyed the story overall and I loved Rutherford but why can’t they get Ben’s face right? 🤔

Something quick to add as I think this is interesting. This zillo beast is most definitely the one Palpetine ordered to be cloned in The Clone Wars as the one that rampaged on Courascant was the last of its kind.
Kylo Ren also got knocked out by a Boar.
Ren's combat ability reminds me of a Thief/Ninja build in Final Fantasy. His combat is kind of slow, and his magic is 'meh' but he's a sneaky bastard.
Snoke thought he could read his mind, but Kylo is able to show Snoke only what he wants him to see. Then there is him killing the god by leaping into its gut.
Will the kinghts of ren have speaking roles in episode 9 or just be henchman

PLOT HOLE: The Zillo Beast's hide/plating is absolute resistant to Lightsabers and Blaster Bolts, and even artillery fire...No matter from which direction one might try to cut it. kylo ren used Bad Writing and Plot Saber to cut what cannot be cut from any direction. Also His saber couldn't even cut into ex-trooper, Fin. It would be better, if he would have climbed out from the beast's mouth. Shows what the writer of the comic knew about Zillo Beasts...
